Overwatch: Rise of Rose

Chapter 28: Fight for Underground City

Shawn POV:

I was walking among three of the most powerful dps in Overwatch and I felt out of place.

I could remember my first encounter with them just hours prior.

I knew they were going to be in this area but not what timeframe.

So I patiently waited a whole three minutes for their arrival before getting impatient.

It was then that I had Abigale hack into the government mainframe for information on their schedules.

She also found that the government was searching for me to extend my invitation into the organization.

With this information, it was just a matter of meeting them.

And the first impression is a lasting impression, so I needed the best way to introduce myself.

I initially had the mindset to stage a scene where they come and save me since I basically was already invited to Overwatch anyway.

Since I knew that Jack Morrison was here, I decided to showcase my skills to him even though he wasn't Strike Commander.

Although he didn't have the final word on major decisions, his voice swayed the favor of those decisions.

So I knew I didn't have to wait for long as I saw three stratoscopters in the distance.

Having done prior reconnaissance, I knew there was around 50 Bastion units in the area and even an ATW Huntsman.

I originally was going to deal with them with S3bastian, but I decided to see them in action and then come down last second from the roof i was on and kill the rest.

The first stratoscopter lands as soldiers spill out covering the nearby streets as I see Jack come down the ramp with his signature rifle resting against his shoulder and Torbjorn lumbering along beside him.

The Bastions take notice of their arrival and turn to face them with the Huntsman taking the front.

The soldiers form a line, using the cars as cover as they start firing on the line of Bastions on the street.

Some of the second line of the soldiers pull a rocket launcher.

The ATW Huntsman rains down a barrage of gunfire on the soldiers as the Bastion units grow closer.

I notice the confidence in the soldiers from Overwatch as they are unbothered by the continuous gunfire from the omnics.

Three different rocket launchers fire on the Huntsman, and Bastion units.

A rocket hits one of the Huntsmans legs and it falls on the Bastions next to it as the other two rockets explode into their ranks.

Im impressed with the coordination with the soldiers and looking at the two powerhouses, I realize that they don't need to intervene and are definitely saving their resources for the fights that will take place later.

Knowing this, I stand as I decide to help wrap this fight up.

I nod at S3bastian as I step off the roof, and he dives after me.

He catches me mid air as the ground approaches fast and I hear his voice in my mask.

"You're lucky I knew what that nod meant when you walked off the roof because I was thinking about trying to eat a cheeseburger and I thought that nod was a go ahead to try."

I ignore him as he swings his body around and the fire boosters on his feet slowing our descent as we hover over the omnics.

Jack and Torbjorn take notice and watch with interest as I aim my assault rifle at the remaining Bastions.

I fire two EMP grenades, stunning them as I fire precision shots with help from my mask quickly clearing the Bastions.

We land on the ground as the soldiers approach us.

"Good work civilian. But come with us we're here to evacuate as many as we can." One of them says.

"I'm here to assist on Overwatch business as well, soldier." I respond.

All soldiers who heard me are momentarily stunned as they weren't expecting me to say that.

A figure approaches behind them, "You want to help with Overwatch business, then get to safety and let us do our jobs."

I turn to Jack, "If I was a civilian, do you think I would know who you are? That I would be able to do any of this? I can guarantee that I can assist you on this mission."

He narrows his eyes and takes a second to look around.

"We're wasting time discussing this. If you're going to help don't get in our way. Do something to hinder us and you'll regret it."

As I watch Torbjorn's mass of walking turrets easily deal with any Bastions they encounter, I don't doubt his words at all.

Having extra time on our hands, I turn to Sojourn who is limping behind us.

"Would you like me to heal you?" I ask.

"You carry a med pack on you?" She responds while looking at my battery pack.

"Maybe I should. But no, I require physical contact and I was asking for permission to touch you instead of just doing so."

She looks unsure for a brief moment, but as she takes a step I can see the pain on her face as she nods her head.

I place my hand on her arm and feel the hard surfaces of her cybernetics.

I stop admiring her cybernetics and start focusing on sensing her bioelectric activity.

My eyebrows rise in surprise as I realize that her bioelectric activity is higher than normal humans and it's due to the electricity found in the cybernetics.

I also realize that it's impossible for anything metal on her to be healed, but luckily, the human bits on her side were struck.

I can see the relief on her face, as the wound slowly closes.

I pretend to not notice both Jack and Torbjorn staring intensely at what I was doing, trying to figure out what I can do.

Since we were future teammates, all they had to do was ask and I would tell them but if they wanted to be reserved, then they could get left out.

Torbjorn looks at a tablet which shows all 20 of his walking turrets.

"They're destroying my babies."

Survivors start running towards us, as a line of OR14 bots follow behind them.

The turrets move in front of the survivors taking the damage for them as they fall to the fusion drivers of the evil Orisas.

Jack shifts his rifle from his shoulder to his hands and Torbjorn pulls out his signature annoying rivet gun as I smile under my mask at the chance to finally see them in action.

Jack starts sprinting at an impressive speed, taking only well aimed shots at the OR14 bots.

In the course of five seconds, he takes down three evil Orisas.

Their slow moving concentrated fire can't keep up with his speed as he lures their attention away from the turrets and retreating survivors.

Torbjorn helps out by controlling the turrets and providing long range fire at the OR14s.

While watching this impressive display, I see movement from the corner of my eye and turn to look at it.

I see a group of survivors running out of a store with red and black uniformed soldiers slowly backing up while firing on a wave of Bastion units.

Abigaile provides me with a schematic of the store and shows me that there's an escape tunnel in there that they're using to flank.

Sojourn has long noticed her men in trouble and pulls her railgun to provide assistance running towards them.

Knowing that Jack and Torbjorn have the OR14s under control, I also head towards the Bastions with S3bastian right behind me.

The Bastions exit the store and spread out to form a row of four, as they walk over the remains of any that fall to the soldiers.

The front row of Bastions configure into machine gun turrets as their guns begin to spin charging up.

The men stop firing and turn to run in fear and Sojourn pauses as she sees that she'll get gunned down as well.

I continue to run, even activating my Galvanic form increasing my speed and reaction time as I pull my electric shield.

The Bastions begin firing but their bullets get blocked by my shield.

Sojourn begins firing her railgun and I'm surprised that it passes easily through my electric shield as it destroys the Bastions.

With the deadly frontal assault Bastions destroyed, everyone reforms the line and opens fire on the Bastions.

As they fire, I drop my shield to allow their bullets to pass.

A Bastion gets lucky and shoots a guy next to me, seconds before getting riddled with bullets.

He falls to the ground screaming in pain as blood pours from his chest.

I rush to him, as S3bastian stands to block any bullets that stray towards me.

Placing my hand on his chest, I sense his decreasing bioelectrical activity.

I provide him a momentarily boost of electricity as I focus on the bullet lodged in his chest.

Stopping a bullet in a sense is easier than attracting a bullet since they're not actually magnetic.

But they are good conductors of electricity, and I control electricity.

So I fill the bullet with enough electricity and pull it slowly to my hand, signaling the cells to heal when it passes.

His breathing becomes steady as I stand up, brushing the dirt off of my pants as I notice all eyes on me.

Jack approaches, "All right, you have some explaining to do."

I finally got the drawings done of the characters and you can check them out on the Auxiliary Chapter.

I don't plan on adding any more original characters, but if I do I'll keep it updated.
