Chapter 7: Chapter 7 The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Xiao Yan looked very flustered, her left hand covering her clothes while her right hand was desperately pushing away.
But the strength of a woman was no match for the seasoned laborers; before she could push twice, her delicate hand was clasped in Liu Dagen's palm,
He smirked lewdly, "Isn't your daughter worried about not finding a job? Just make me happy now, and I'll mention it to my brother, and get your daughter a job at the village committee. Let me tell you, the committee's missing an accountant—that's a lucrative position."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Yan's eyes flickered twice, and a look of hesitation crossed her face.
Seeing this, Liu Dagen sneered proudly, "I'm telling you, if your daughter gets that position, your family will definitely live the good life."
As he spoke, his hand reached out to Xiao Yan again, and with a rip, the blouse she was gripping was torn open, revealing her fair shoulder.
Liu Dagen bared his teeth in a grin and leaned further in.
But just then, after a moment of hesitation, Xiao Yan suddenly snapped back to her senses, pushed Liu Dagen away forcefully, and then shoved him back again, "No... no, I can't do this. If Nizi's dad finds out, he'll kill me."
"That loser Zhang Quanzhu dares to hit you? From now on, I've got your back. If he dares lay a hand on you, I'll have someone beat him to death," Liu Dagen spat disdainfully to the side and reached out again.
Xiao Yan, however, struggled fiercely, "Stop it right now, or I'll call for help."
"Ha, go ahead and scream," Liu Dagen mocked, "In these desolate hills, even if you screamed your lungs out, you wouldn't attract a single soul."
By this time, Liu Dagen was getting impatient, and after he finished speaking, he lunged at Xiao Yan again.
Wang Chen, watching from a distance as Xiao Yan struggled as if her life depended on it, felt an itch to act.
"Damn Liu Dagen, thinking he's above the law just because his big brother is the village chief, how dare he coerce Xiao Yan like this."
Wang Chen was furious and wanted to intervene.
But he was also a bit afraid of Liu Dagen, who had a notorious reputation in the village and hung around with a few old bachelors. They would beat up anyone they didn't like, and no one dared to fight back.
After all, besides having his own cronies, his elder brother was the village chief.
However, Wang Chen couldn't just stand by and watch Xiao Yan be tainted by him.
Xiao Yan was somewhat related to his grandmother, and she had looked after her frequently over the years.
No matter the reason, he couldn't just sit by and do nothing.
He scratched his head vigorously, "Rushing over there directly is definitely not a good idea, I have to think of something. But what can I do that won't expose me and will make Liu Dagen leave?"
"Oh right, before entering the mountain, I seem to remember sister-in-law Li Qian saying there were wolves around here, yes, I can use wolves to scare him!"
With this thought, Wang Chen hid off to the side and shouted out loud, "The wolf is coming, run for it!"
Hearing this, Liu Dagen sprang up from on top of Xiao Yan, and when his instinct told him to run, he looked around.
Not to mention a wolf, he didn't even see a rabbit.
He cursed irritably, "Who's talking? Come out here now."
Wang Chen didn't respond but kept his eyes firmly on them.
Liu Dagen waited for a while, then looked back at Xiao Yan. Just as he was about to start again, Xiao Yan, crying, said, "Hurry up and go, there are people around."
"What are you scared of! It's probably just some shepherd's kid shouting from the mountain; the voice is far from here."
He leaned in once more and contemptuously cursed, "Even if he came over, would he dare to offend me?"
"Let me go, let me go now!"
"The wolf is coming!" At that moment, Wang Chen didn't just shout once more but also picked up a stone and threw it into the bush next to Liu Dagen and Xiao Yan.
Startled by the noise nearby, Liu Dagen, who had appeared fearless just moments ago, suddenly jumped in fright.
He ran up to the stone, peered around for a while, and then shouted angrily, "Some brat better come out now."
The vast wilderness echoed with his curses.
Seeing no response, he yelled again, "Believe it or not, I'll catch you, slaughter you, and feed you to the wolves!"
After pausing for a minute and realizing there was still no answer, he went back to Xiao Yan's side.
Swearing angrily, he demanded, "Damned woman, hurry up and do as I say obediently—I've had enough of this damn place."
Seeing that his shouts not only failed to scare Liu Dagen away but instead made him more intent on continuing his beastly behavior, Wang Chen felt as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.
"Liu Dagen's guts are really something. He can't be scared off. What do I do now?"
"Tear! Let go of me!"
As he grew more anxious, Liu Dagen had already completely torn Xiao Yan's coat.
As he watched Liu Dagen's hand move toward his trousers, Wang Chen gritted his teeth, "No matter what, I have to save her first."
With that, he stood up abruptly.
However, just as he was about to rush down, he suddenly caught sight of a large gray shadow slowly crawling closer, not far from Liu Dagen and Xiao Yan's side.
Focusing intently, Wang Chen's eyes suddenly narrowed, "Wolves! It's a wolf! The wolf is really here this time."
After muttering to himself, he quickly cried out, "Run, the wolf is really here!"
"Damn it, you little bastard... Ah, there really is a wolf!"
Liu Dagen had intended to curse, but he halted halfway through as he suddenly saw the gray wolf a few meters to the side.
Startled, he shivered and ran recklessly toward the outside.
Watching him dash off over ten meters in an instant, Xiao Yan's face turned as white as a sheet and she urgently shouted, "Liu, you're not... not going to look out for me?"
"I don't give a damn, stay here to feed the wolf," Liu Dagen yelled back.
"You..."
Xiao Yan's face grew even paler and, after seeing the ferocious face of the wolf, her legs felt like they were filled with lead; no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't take a single step.
The wolf... was getting closer and bared its fangs at her.
"Ah!"
"Auntie, don't scream, run with me."
As she screamed with her eyes closed, Wang Chen suddenly grabbed her hand.
"Wang Chen? How are you here?"
"I'll explain later."
Having said that, Wang Chen forcefully pulled Xiao Yan in the opposite direction to run away.
As they moved, the wolf that had been crouching straightened up, its azure pupils contracted fiercely, and it lunged forward, chasing after them.
"Huff, huff, huff! Wang Chen, just run, you won't be fast enough with Auntie, and both of us will end up wolf food."
"No, I can't leave you behind."
"Oh no!"
Just as Wang Chen spoke, Xiao Yan suddenly cried out from behind and then fell to the ground.
Clutching her ankle, "I can't, my foot is sprained, and I definitely can't walk; go on without me."
Wang Chen shook his head anxiously, ready to carry Xiao Yan on his back, but just as he bent down, he saw that the big gray wolf had reached just two steps behind him...
