On June 5th, Friday, it was sunny.
Around noon, Lu Chen walked out of the Binhai City high-speed train station.
The dazzling sunlight hit his face, making him squint involuntarily, his spirits soaring.
Thanks to the developed high-speed railway system, Lu Chen returned to his hometown, which he hadn't visited for nearly a year, in just five hours. It was a small town located along the coast of Zhedong.
Binhai City is a county-level city with a population of over a million. It falls under the Hangzhou-Wenzhou administrative area, over 200 kilometers from the provincial capital, Hangzhou. Lu Chen was born and raised here until he was accepted into Jianghai University.
Originally, he intended to return home on the 1st, as he needed to go back to Jianghai University for his graduation ceremony on the 9th. However, he had delayed his trip for a few more days to prepare new songs for Sister Na and the Wandering Band.
Several songs for the Wandering Band had already entered the formal production phase. As a songwriter, Lu Chen took the opportunity to participate in composing music and the production process, offering several of his suggestions.
Composing music was Lu Chen's biggest weakness, so such an opportunity was rare for him; he could learn a lot, and if the new songs succeeded, it would be a great start for him in the mainstream pop music scene.
On the other hand, Lu Chen was also planning to release his own album, so understanding the production process in advance would be beneficial, not to mention that he had a good personal relationship with Sister Na and Qin Hanyang.
After leaving the train station, he took a taxi to the Dongping Community in the city.
The Dongping Community was one of the earliest-built neighborhoods in Binhai City and housed the employees of the city's Finance Bureau, State Tax Bureau, and Local Tax Bureau. Lu Chen's mother, Fang Yun, and his sister, Lu Xue, lived there.
Fang Yun was an accountant at the Binhai City State Tax Bureau. After the Lu family faced difficulties, they sold their original house and car, and she moved to the employee dormitory in the Dongping Community to save on expenses.
After getting out of the taxi at the community entrance, Lu Chen didn't head straight home. Instead, he ran to a bank not far from the community.
At the VIP window of the branch, he handed over his bank card and ID.
"Hello, I'm here to withdraw money; I made an appointment yesterday."
Five minutes later, Lu Chen left the bank with a heavy backpack and returned to the Dongping Community.
Fang Yun lived in Room 201 of Building 7.
Although Lu Chen had spent little time living there, the small home brought him many warm memories. As he got closer to home, his steps became particularly light.
However, when Lu Chen reached the front of Building 7, he suddenly noticed a familiar car parked beside the greenery. After looking closely at the license plate, an uneasy feeling crept into his heart!
Frowning, Lu Chen quickened his pace and rushed up the stairs, quickly arriving at the door of Room 201.
The door was ajar, and the sounds from the living room clearly reached his ears!
"We have no choice; this money has been owed for so long."
"If it weren't for my son Wenkang wanting to buy a house, we really wouldn't have come to you."
"Since we're all relatives, you can't just let us—"
Lu Chen couldn't take it anymore; he pushed the door open forcefully!
Bang!
The security door slammed against the wall with a loud noise.
The apartment was a one-bedroom, one-living room layout, and it was quite old. The combined area of the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom was less than 30 square meters. The small living room could barely accommodate a sofa and a small desk, making it feel very shabby and cramped.
When Lu Chen barged in, his mother, Fang Yun, stood expressionlessly in front of the desk, while a plump middle-aged woman was gesticulating and spitting as she berated her.
A middle-aged man with a dull expression sat on the sofa, sulking and smoking.
To his right sat a young man in his twenties, wearing a T-shirt and jeans, with messy hair and a shiny silver earring dangling from his left ear, displaying an unruly demeanor.
The sound of the door crashing drew everyone's attention to Lu Chen.
"Xiao Chen?"
Fang Yun was both surprised and delighted, quickly walking over, "When did you come back?"
Lu Chen smiled, "Mom, I just got back."
He turned his face, and his expression instantly turned icy: "Uncle, Aunt, you're all here?"
The middle-aged man sitting on the sofa was Lu Chen's maternal uncle, Fang Yuanzhong, while the woman scolding Fang Yun was Aunt Lin Ru and the young man with the earring was Lu Chen's cousin, Fang Wenkang!
"Little Xiao Chen is back!"
Fang Yuanzhong stood up a bit awkwardly and said sheepishly, "That's great."
Lin Ru first paused, then disdainfully remarked, "What's so great? If you're capable of making money, bring it back and pay off the debts you owe our family first!"
Fang Wenkang sat on the armrest of the sofa, looking at Lu Chen with a mocking expression.
Fang Yun's face flushed with anger; she was about to speak, but Lu Chen blocked her.
Lu Chen calmly asked, "Aunt, I don't understand what you mean. When did our Lu family owe you money?"
Lin Ru looked as if she had heard some absurd tale, her face twisting: "What are you saying? Your Lu family doesn't owe us money? It's all written down in black and white!"
She pulled out several pieces of paper and shook them vigorously at Lu Chen, shouting, "Do you still want to deny it?"
Lu Chen suppressed his anger and questioned, "If I remember correctly, this is a shareholder agreement, right?"
When the Lu family business was thriving, Lin Ru, feeling envious, urged Fang Yuanzhong to seek out Fang Yun, and insisted on investing in shares of the new factory the Lu family had opened. Besides wanting to reap dividends, she also wanted her son Fang Wenkang to work there.
At first, the new factory was indeed profitable, and the dividends were generous for the Fang family. However, after the international financial crisis broke out, Lu Qingsheng's business suffered a severe blow, and the bank's recovery of loans ultimately led to a cash flow crisis, resulting in the company's bankruptcy.
Though Lu Qingsheng had passed away, he left his family with an astonishing amount of debt, and aside from the bank loans covered by fixed assets, they owed friends and family millions.
All of these debts were shouldered by Fang Yun; paying back debts is only natural, and there was nothing more to say.
However, the Fang family had signed a shareholder agreement, and the dividends they had previously received exceeded their original investment. Now, after the factory had closed down, they demanded Fang Yun return their shares and repay the money, which was completely unreasonable.
Lu Chen knew that his mother had paid Lin Ru some money, which had strained the relationship between the Lu and Fang families. He never expected that today they would come to his home to pressure Fang Yun for more money.
This was outrageous!
How could Lu Chen not be furious? "If you want money, then sue us in court. Now get out of here!"
The court would never support such "debts."
How could Lin Ru not know that?
She was caught off guard by Lu Chen's harsh words, her chubby face twitching. Suddenly, she grabbed Fang Yuanzhong and yelled, "Fang, say something! Are you just going to watch your nephew bully your wife? Are you dead or what?"
Fang Yuanzhong frowned tightly, allowing Lin Ru to hit him. He looked helplessly at Fang Yun and said, "Xiao Yun."
"How can you talk to my mom like that?"
Fang Wenkang jumped up, charging at Lu Chen angrily, "F*ck you! You're asking for a beating!"
The living room immediately erupted into chaos!
As Lu Chen saw Fang Wenkang reach out to grab his chest, he dropped his backpack without dodging. Just as Wenkang's hand was about to touch him, Lu Chen suddenly raised his left hand and grasped it tightly.
"Bang!"
The next moment, a heavy slap landed on Fang Wenkang's face!
Fang Wenkang was caught off guard and became dazed, while Lin Ru also stopped her commotion, staring in shock.
Lu Chen's expression was cold as he pushed Fang Wenkang away with force, saying in a deep voice, "Fang Wenkang, if you want to die, just say so. I'll make it happen!"
This young man used to be like a sycophant in front of him, and now he dared to insult his mother after turning against him.
Lu Chen almost wanted to kill Fang Wenkang; that slap was too light!
Fang Wenkang nearly stumbled and fell to the ground, holding his red and swollen face. After a moment, he finally regained his senses.
Then he let out a scream like a pig being slaughtered, "Mom, Lu Chen is trying to kill me!"
Lin Ru was so furious her nose twisted; she screamed, "Fang!"
For some reason, the cold look on Lu Chen's face instinctively made her feel a twinge of fear. She wanted to urge Fang Yuanzhong to come out and teach Lu Chen a lesson, but she didn't dare to take action herself.
"Enough!"
Fang Yun shouted loudly.
Feeling disheartened, she turned to Fang Yuanzhong and said, "Big Brother, I'll say it one last time: I will find a way to repay this money to you in the future. You all can leave now."
There's no greater sorrow than a heart that is dead; Fang Yuanzhong didn't dare to meet Fang Yun's gaze, his lips moving silently, unable to speak.
"No need to wait until later!"
Lu Chen picked up his backpack from the floor and forcefully unzipped it. "We'll pay up now!"
