Chapter 32. Jealousy.
Wu’er had always been different. Maybe it was because she grew up among wolves, but her ability to learn was something else. She had this intense focus, almost like a wolf zeroing in on its prey, and her wolf-like nature was unmistakable.
It didn’t take long for word to spread around the Lishan Sword Sect about Wu’er’s extraordinary skills. People were both amazed and a little envious. Among those who envied her was the Sect Master’s daughter, Luo Yue.
Before Elder Ming Zhe left, he made sure to place Wu’er under Xiao Heng’s care. Naturally, Xiao Heng took her under his wing, teaching her all about cultivation techniques.
Wu’er knew Xiao Heng had his own reasons for helping her, but he was her only source of knowledge about cultivation. She had no choice but to learn from him.
Despite this, Wu’er kept their relationship strictly professional. She didn’t want to get involved in anything beyond cultivation and made sure to keep her distance from Xiao Heng.
At first, Xiao Heng thought Wu’er avoided him because she wasn’t used to being around humans. But over time, her constant indifference started to frustrate him.
To his annoyance, Wu’er seemed comfortable and happy with the innocent children in the sect, forming strong friendships with them.
Xiao Heng couldn’t help but feel it was unfair.
Wu’er was determined to learn how to speak properly. With her persistence and the help of some fellow disciples, she eventually managed to string together a few simple words, blending in with the others.
She found joy in her current life. She had friends to cultivate with and felt a sense of belonging.
However, Wu’er’s sharp instincts kept her alert to any potential threats.
Practicing cultivation techniques with Xiao Heng every day allowed Wu’er to learn a lot. Her speed was astonishing; she could master martial arts moves after seeing them just once.
While others were still trying to understand a concept, Wu’er would have already perfected it. Her methodical approach to learning each move impressed everyone.
Her abilities made many people admire her, often comparing her to a fish effortlessly swimming in water.
Because of this, many new disciples began following Wu’er, asking for her help to correct their movements. Seeing their eagerness, Wu’er was more than happy to assist.
Yet, some people were jealous of Wu’er. Despite joining the sect later, her strength quickly outpaced theirs.
This dissatisfaction led some individuals to use their seniority to find faults in Wu’er repeatedly.
Wu’er, with her keen intuition, saw through their intentions and pretended not to notice, skillfully avoiding their traps.
Most of those causing trouble for Wu’er were secretly influenced by Luo Yue, who was trying to win favor with them.
Luo Yue’s resentment towards Wu’er grew from Elder Ming Zhe’s favoritism and the fact that Wu’er’s strength nearly matched her own in just six months, fueling her jealousy.
More significantly, Wu’er spent every day with Senior Brother Xiao Heng. Despite Wu’er’s cold demeanor, Xiao Heng was incredibly patient with her.
Luo Yue had always liked Senior Brother Xiao Heng, a fact that everyone in the Lishan Sword Sect knew.
But Xiao Heng showed little interest in Luo Yue’s advances.
Every time Luo Yue saw Wu’er and Xiao Heng together, witnessing his patient teaching, her jealousy flared.
Luo Yue’s opinion of Wu’er became even worse after Elder Ming Zhe left the sect and didn’t return for a long time.
Wu’er knew Luo Yue didn’t like her but didn’t care as long as Luo Yue didn’t cross any lines. Wu’er believed they could coexist peacefully.
However, Wu’er also knew she couldn’t allow herself to be bullied. If anyone seriously threatened her, Wu’er would fight back without hesitation.
Xiao Heng continued to train Wu’er every day. Thanks to her exceptional talent, Wu’er learned quickly.
As time went on, Wu’er grew more beautiful, and even Xiao Heng couldn’t help but be moved by her.
Despite their daily interactions, Wu’er’s attitude towards Xiao Heng remained distant. She consistently rejected his attempts to get closer.
Still, Xiao Heng didn’t give up. He was determined to improve their relationship, hoping that Elder Ming Zhe would be pleased when he returned.
For Xiao Heng, this would be highly advantageous. Not only would it leave a good impression on Elder Ming Zhe, but it would also help him in his quest to become the Sect Master of the Lishan Sword Sect.
Every time Luo Yue saw Wu’er and Xiao Heng together, her jealousy and anger surged.
Senior Brother Xiao Heng’s attitude towards Wu’er was completely different from how he treated her. This only fueled her jealousy further.
Why didn’t her sincerity matter to Senior Brother Xiao Heng?
Yet, Wu’er, this wild child, cold and seemingly emotionless, had captured his attention.
Luo Yue’s desire to be with Senior Brother Xiao Heng was well known within the sect.
But what if Senior Brother Xiao Heng chose Wu’er? What would she do?
She couldn’t bear the thought of becoming a laughingstock in the sect.
Luo Yue couldn’t let that happen. She believed Senior Brother Xiao Heng belonged to her and no one else. Determined to act, she couldn’t let Wu’er take him away.
Still, Luo Yue had her doubts. Wu’er was personally brought by Elder Ming Zhe, and even her father, the Sect Master, had to show her respect.
If Elder Ming Zhe discovered her actions, he wouldn’t let her off easily.
At that point, even her father might face consequences. But if she didn’t teach Wu’er a lesson, Wu’er would soon surpass her.
