Pokemon: A New Path

Chapter 99: The world is so big

Dragonite didn't know how to give Cyclizar advice because it had never encountered such a situation before.

All the Dragonites on Dragonite Island were good-natured dragons. Although some of them had rough and aggressive personalities, they never showed hostility toward one another.

After leaving Dragonite Island, Dragonite had come to live on the ranch, where it only met kind people and friendly Pokémon.

Cyclizar didn't know what to do either.

So, the two dragon Pokémon sat quietly on the grass together, gazing at the round moon in the sky.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the meadow, the three Gogoat were lying on their sides, leaning against each other as they chewed on grass while occasionally glancing at the two dragon Pokemon.

"Baaa?" one of the Gogoat asked, seemingly curious.

The other Gogoat shrugged, indicating it didn't understand either. "Baa."

So, the three Gogoat continued munching on the grass balls while occasionally looking over at Dragonite and Cyclizar.

At the same time, in the wooden house, Teddiursa, who had been sleeping soundly, suddenly sensed something and abruptly opened its eyes.

It looked up and saw a "Mew" floating above, watching it intently.

"Ursa?" Teddiursa was a little confused.

But before it could react further, "Mew" disappeared.

Teddiursa sat up and rubbed its eyes in disbelief.

Glancing at Naoki, who was still peacefully asleep beside it, Teddiursa quietly slipped out of bed and walked out of the house, guided by the moonlight.

From under the eaves, the sound of Butterfree's soft snores could be heard.

"Mew" was floating there, waiting.

Teddiursa didn't wake Butterfree, nor did it disturb Cyclizar and Dragonite, who were still gazing at the moon on the grass.

Instead, it quietly followed "Mew" to an empty corner of the ranch.

There was a flash of white light as "Mew" transformed.

In the light, its body rapidly changed shape.

A moment later, standing before Teddiursa was a cute Pokémon with a pair of beautiful blue eyes that Teddiursa had never seen before.

"Ursa?!" Teddiursa gasped in surprise.

Teddiursa gazed at the mysterious Pokémon standing before it, noticing the fine layer of light pink fur that covered its small, body. With a mix of curiosity and caution, Teddiursa asked, "Ursa?" 'Are you the hero'?

"Mew!" came the voice from the mouth of the mysterious Pokémon.

Hearing the sound, Teddiursa's eyes widened in recognition. 'It really is the hero! And the hero is so cute'!

The Pokémon, who had once saved Teddiursa, looked at the little bear and said softly, "Mew." (I'm leaving.)

Teddiursa felt a pang of nervousness and reluctance. 'Leave'? it thought, unable to hide its concern. "Ursa?" 'Where are you going'? it asked.

The hero replied, "Mew!" (I'm going to explore other places. This world is vast. I want to see more, meet more humans and Pokémon, and maybe I'll encounter others like you who need help! When that time comes, I'll help them too!)

The hero's words reminded Teddiursa of a movie it had once seen in a place called Pokémon Hollywood. The film featured a cool Roserade that traveled the world, saving Pokémon in danger. The Pokémon in the movie called Roserade a hero.

"Ursa." Teddiursa listened, a spark of excitement in its eyes.

'The world is big, and there are so many things to do in it', Teddiursa thought. 'I want to travel like the hero, to see the wider world'!

Teddiursa remembered the heroic moment when the hero had saved it in that dark alley. The memory filled it with determination, and it quickly asked, "Ursa?" 'Can I come with you'?

Hearing this, the hero was momentarily stunned. "Mew?" (You want to travel with me?)

"Ursa!" Teddiursa nodded eagerly.

'Naoki's ranch doesn't need my help at this moment', Teddiursa thought. 'Instead of staying here, I'd rather travel and maybe even find more treasures to bring back to Naoki. Doesn't he love the stones I picked up? Just this afternoon, I saw him smiling at the rocks I brought him'.

The hero's mind flashed back to its own journeys, traveling alone across vast landscapes. It hesitated for a moment, touched by the idea of having a companion who shared its ideals. The vision of traveling the world with Teddiursa, witnessing beautiful scenery and meeting new people and Pokémon, began to take shape in the hero's mind.

After thinking it over, the hero asked, "Mew?" (But will your human let you leave with me?)

Teddiursa wasn't sure. If it were any other human, they might not allow it—but Naoki.

"Ursa!" Teddiursa decided, despite its uncertainty, that it had to try.

So, the next morning, as Naoki was just getting up, Teddiursa ran over to him, calling out urgently.

"What's going on?" Naoki asked, noticing Teddiursa's unusual behavior.

Naoki reached out and picked up Teddiursa, holding it close as he noticed the little bear's anxious demeanor.

"Ursa, Ursa!" Teddiursa tried to express its desire to travel, but quickly realized that Naoki couldn't understand what it was trying to say.

This made Teddiursa feel a bit discouraged. "Ursa."

Seeing the disappointment in Teddiursa's eyes, Naoki raised an eyebrow and asked, "You have something you want to tell me, right?"

Teddiursa nodded eagerly.

Naoki pondered for a moment. "Let me guess. Do you want to eat honey buns?"

Teddiursa shook its head.

Naoki tried again. "So, maybe you want honey pudding?"

Teddiursa shook its head once more.

"Do you want to drink honey directly?" Naoki asked, starting to wonder what could be on Teddiursa's mind.

"Ursa." Teddiursa shook its head again, growing more frustrated that Naoki wasn't understanding.

Naoki was surprised. 'Huh? What could have happened that Teddiursa isn't interested in honey'?

At that moment, Koraidon, who had been quietly observing the interaction, seemed to sense something unusual. It suddenly pounced, and there was a soft plop sound, as if it had hit something invisible.

Immediately afterward, Mew, who had been using its ability to remain unseen, was thrown to the ground by Koraidon's quick reflexes. The moment it landed, Mew's shape rapidly changed, revealing itself fully—a small, kitten-like Pokémon with light pink fur and big, beautiful blue eyes.

Naoki's eyes widened in shock, and he couldn't believe what he was seeing. 'Mew? Is that really Mew'?

'What is going on'? Naoki thought, bewildered. 'How could Mew be in my house'?

In contrast to Naoki's surprise, Koraidon seemed much calmer. It tilted its head, looking at Mew with a slightly bemused expression. "Raao?"

Seeing that it had been exposed to Naoki and the other Pokémon, Mew didn't panic. Instead, it turned its gaze toward Naoki, its big blue eyes shimmering with a light blue glow.

In the next instant, a series of vivid images appeared in Naoki's mind—scenes he had never witnessed before. In these images, he saw Teddiursa in a dark alley, surrounded by a group of alley cats who had mistaken it for an intruder threatening their territory.

As the cats began to surround and attack Teddiursa, Mew appeared, driving the group of cats away and rescuing the frightened little bear.

The images then shifted to show Teddiursa discovering the vast world beyond the mountains, its curiosity sparked by Mew's intervention. Teddiursa had been deeply influenced by Mew, filling it with a longing to explore the world.

'The world is so big. It wants to go see it'! Naoki realized as the images faded from his mind.
