Beedrill stared at Evan.
After a long pause, it gave its answer.
Working with Evan? No problem.
In fact, even if Evan hadn't asked for their cooperation and just started renovating the area, the Beedrill and its tribe would have still needed to move eventually.
Moving would mean having to fight other Pokémon for territory.
But with Evan's plan to turn this place into an orchard, they wouldn't have to move at all.
And there would be more food?
All they would need to do is help Evan manage the orchard.
No matter how Beedrill looked at it, it seemed like a great deal.
They would have a steady food supply, and no one would need to leave.
The more Beedrill thought about it, the more he felt like he'd struck gold.
So really, what was there to say no to?
Refusing might just mean being driven away.
After all, his whole tribe couldn't hope to defeat the human in front of him.
With this settled in his mind, he began to dance and communicate with Evan.
Evan explained his plan clearly.
When the time came, he would make energy cubes and leave them out for the Beedrill tribe to eat whenever they liked.
All they'd have to do in return was help him guard the orchard from any Pokémon that tried to steal food.
And, of course, produce honey.
Occasionally, if needed, they'd help him gather tree fruits and other items.
After all, some materials were only found in the Trackless Forest.
Why go looking himself when he could ask the Pokémon for help?
Beedrill was curious. What exactly was an energy cube?
Hearing his question, Evan immediately handed over a few energy cubes he'd brought along.
"Here you go."
"You might not recognize it, but it's Pokémon food."
"Try some. It'll fill you up."
The energy cubes Evan held were made especially for Pokémon with big appetites, like Snorlax.
Without focusing on boosting strength or other attributes, these cubes were simply the best way to satisfy hunger.
Just one or two pieces would be enough to fill a Beedrill's stomach.
And they were easy to make. When the time came, Evan could easily prepare enough for the whole tribe.
Seeing the energy cubes offered to him, Beedrill was curious.
He carefully poked one with his spear-like arm, then brought it closer.
After a cautious sniff to ensure it was safe, he stuffed it in his mouth and began tasting it.
One bite felt like he'd eaten several tree fruits.
His eyes lit up as he realized this.
"Beep, beep!!"
Without a moment's hesitation, he agreed to everything Evan had proposed.
Evan smiled with satisfaction, happy to see Beedrill's enthusiastic acceptance.
"Great," Evan said. "When my orchard is ready, I'll let you know."
"When the time comes, I'll need your help with planting trees and other tasks."
"Don't worry—I'll make sure all your food is taken care of from now on. As long as you work hard, you'll never need to worry about food again."
Beedrill nodded eagerly at this. Finally, they wouldn't have to struggle with food shortages.
Life as a wild Pokémon could be tough. Besides dealing with conflicts between species, they also had to worry about finding enough to eat.
Especially in winter—if food was scarce, they'd go hungry.
While there were some tree fruits during the colder months, many were out of reach or inedible for them.
When they were still Weedle, they could survive on leaves, but as Beedrill, they couldn't just munch on whatever they found.
They also weren't the kind of Pokémon that could feed on tree sap.
Hunger had often made life difficult and contributed to their aggressive nature.
Their bad tempers were mainly due to this constant struggle for food.
They guarded their territory fiercely to prevent other Pokémon from competing with them for food.
Now, though, someone was willing to provide for them.
How could the Beedrill leader refuse such an offer?
After Evan and Beedrill finished talking, Evan added, "Next, I need to visit the other Pokémon groups and discuss this with them."
"Do you want to come along? You could show me the way."
Evan had invited Beedrill to lead the way.
The mountainside wasn't vast, but it wasn't small either. Many Pokémon lived here.
Along with the Bug-type Pokémon, there were also flocks of Pidgey and some scattered Pokémon like Raticate and Diglett.
Once he had spoken to the main groups, Evan planned to have them pass along the message to these scattered Pokémon.
By then, he would fence off the orchard area, and they'd have to follow the new rules.
Otherwise, Evan wouldn't hesitate to drive them away.
Hearing Evan's plan, the Beedrill leader nodded in agreement.
He then summoned a few other Beedrill, gesturing with his spear to show he was ready.
Seeing this, Evan didn't hesitate. He turned and led the way, with the Beedrill flying alongside him as they went to find the other Pokémon.
The next group Evan approached was a cluster of Butterfree.
After a friendly discussion, the Butterfree also agreed to his plan.
With their leader now guiding him, Evan continued his search through the mountainside.
The whole area had only a few major groups: the Beedrill tribe, the Butterfree tribe, and the Pidgey tribe—all quite common.
After all, Pidgey, Caterpie, and Weedle were among the most widespread Pokémon species.
Down by a lake, Evan also noticed quite a few Magikarp. However, these "salted fish" didn't form real groups.
Without even a single Gyarados to lead them, they didn't have any noticeable impact, so Evan decided they could be ignored for now.
As Evan arrived at the Pidgey tribe's territory, he noticed a tense confrontation taking place.
Two large birds were locked in combat, each launching powerful Wing Attacks.
Evan's eyes sharpened as he focused on the scene.
One of the Pidgeots had a striking color—a rich, golden hue that looked incredibly majestic.
The other was a typical Pidgeot.
But that golden one—clearly, it was a Shiny Pokémon.
Evan hadn't expected to find such a rare Pokémon here in this ordinary mountainside.
If anyone else learned about this, countless Trainers would swarm here within half an hour.
After all, Shiny Pokémon were even rarer than pseudo-Legendary Pokémon in this world.
The two birds were battling fiercely, clearly competing for the position of clan leader.
Evan's eyes flashed with excitement as he looked at the radiant golden Pidgeot.
He had to capture it.
The Shiny Pidgeot in front of him looked like it had just recently evolved, adding even more potential to its allure.
