Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Scheduling a Practical Training Session with Erika
Upon returning to Celadon University with Principal Monet, Gary found himself the center of attention for a group of scholarly professors.
A bunch of middle-aged, exceptionally intelligent professors eagerly pulled out their research topics, hoping Gary would provide some insights.
In reality, some of these topics had no place in an academic setting at all.
Gary wore a helpless expression. "Uh, colleagues, let's skip the academic discussions. Please don't bring your personal doctoral dissertations here; I haven't even obtained my own doctorate yet…"
"Ha! You're being modest, junior. It's only a matter of time before you get your PhD~"
"Exactly! The capable ones are the teachers. How about my topic on the correlation between Caterpie and Rayquaza?"
"And mine discusses whether Ninetales can evolve into a humanoid form—ranking future waifus!"
"Alright, alright, we'll discuss any questions during the open class later. Let Gary and Miss Caitlin rest for now!" Principal Monet smiled as he shooed away the eager professors, finally leading Gary to the faculty office building.
"Room 303 on the first floor is your exclusive office, which includes a laboratory, training room, and lounge. Here's the key." Monet pulled out a key and handed it to Caitlin.
Gary looked confused. "Principal, shouldn't you be giving the key to me?"
Monet shrugged. "What difference does it make? You two will definitely be living together."
Gary opened his mouth but ultimately decided against arguing.
Caitlin obediently took the key and raised her chin nonchalantly. "It's fine; I never need keys to get in."
With a flash of white light, Caitlin simply walked into Gary's office.
"Do psychics need keys?" Gary turned to Monet with his hands up in confusion.
"Don't they?" The old principal replied with an enigmatic expression.
"Tch~" Gary pouted and opened the door to enter his office.
Inside were a desk, an executive chair, a sofa for guests, and a small round table. The entire office looked quite simple, with a coat rack in the corner holding a suit and a white lab coat adorned with Gary's name tag.
Gary Oak—Professor of Theory
"Wow, it looks pretty realistic," Gary chuckled.
Monet stroked his chin proudly. "Of course! Go big or go home; I don't want that old scholar from Rowan causing me trouble."
Gary took off his outer jacket and put on the suit jacket before slipping on the lab coat. He was now fully transformed into Professor Oak!
Monet nodded in satisfaction. "It fits perfectly! You really suit the researcher look."
"Yes, yes! You look great like this, Gary!" Caitlin chimed in with approval.
Gary shrugged. "I think so too."
After getting Gary settled in, Principal Monet prepared to return to work but reminded him not to forget about the open class in the afternoon before leaving in a hurry.
Gary turned to Caitlin. "Have you checked out the other rooms yet?"
Caitlin shook her head. "Not yet~"
"Then let's go see where the Pokémon will be staying," he suggested as he led her through the laboratory to the indoor training room.
"Wow~ There are so many fitness machines and even swings!" Caitlin exclaimed, covering her mouth in surprise.
"Tsk tsk, Celadon University's indoor training room is indeed quite luxurious." Gary took out his Poké Balls and released all his Pokémon: Eevee, Charmeleon, Growlithe, Scyther, Rhydon, and Gengar. This was currently his lineup.
The Pokémon looked around at all the equipment with sparkling eyes.
"So for these two days while we're at Celadon University, this will be your training room. A professional breeder will come later to help everyone train," Gary explained.
The Pokémon eagerly rubbed their paws together, ready for action.
"Now you can play around here for a bit. I need to prepare my lesson plan for class." Gary pointed at some soft mats on the floor in the corner. "If you get tired, you can rest here; there are energy drinks and energy cubes in the cabinet—don't hold back!"
"Whoosh~" Scyther immediately took off into the air!
"Gary! I want to play here too!" Caitlin looked at him excitedly.
Gary smiled back. "No problem! I'll be in my office outside. After I'm free this afternoon, we can visit Erika's perfume shop together. Until then, feel free to enjoy yourself here."
Caitlin nodded happily and released her Pokémon before joyfully running toward the swings.
After reminding everyone to stay safe, Gary returned alone to his desk.
Spinning a pen in his hand, he began to think deeply. Based on timing, Professor Rowan's visit must be related to announcing new findings on two Pokémon evolutions.
Those would be Magmar and Electabuzz! These two Pokémon are generally considered fully evolved in Kanto but have undergone new transformations thanks to advanced technology products from Sinnoh—the Electirizer and Magmarizer.
The strength of Magmortar and Electivire was indeed impressive.
The key point was that this evolution method was neither natural evolution nor trade evolution.
Instead, it utilized human-made products that influenced Pokémon themselves, resulting in an alternative item-based evolution process.
Given this context, discussing ordinary evolutionary theories would surely lead to embarrassment.
Eevee's evolution through natural evolution stones wouldn't hold much weight either.
Bond evolution? Gary shook his head; aside from its difficulty level, there was currently no existing evidence proving such an evolution existed.
A-type evolution? Currently, various evolutionary stones were still nowhere to be found—it wasn't practical either~
With that in mind, Gary focused on his Scyther and Rhydon instead.
Rhydon needed Protector equipped while Scyther required metal coating.
Although these materials weren't as sophisticated as Electric Drives, they still represented an evolution process formed through resonance between artificial products and Pokémon.
The crucial point was that both materials were quite valuable and needed to be imported from Hoenn!Gary chuckled, "Since it's the principal spending the money, I won't hold back."
With swift strokes, he wrote out a list: "Metal coating x2, Protector x1, premium Fire Stone x1, Electirizer x1, Magmarizer x1, Razor Fang x1, Razor Claw x1, and King's Rock x2."
"Shouldn't be too much," Gary raised an eyebrow and picked up the phone. "Hello, this is Room 303 in the faculty office building. I need some materials for upcoming classes and academic exchanges."
"Is this Professor Gary? The principal has already given us a heads-up. Please send your list to the logistics department, and we will prepare everything for you and deliver it to your lab," the head of the logistics department responded politely.
"Thank you very much." After hanging up, Gary nodded in satisfaction; this was a good deal.
In academia, many items and materials that trainers find hard to obtain are just a matter of a phone call.
Knock knock knock—at that moment, there was a knock on Gary's office door.
He opened it to find Erika standing outside with several demure-looking girls wearing round glasses.
"What's this?" Gary raised an eyebrow, suspecting that Principal Monet was trying to tie him down at Celadon University by shamelessly pulling strings.
This group of unassuming girls definitely fit the type that would catch Gary's attention.
"These are graduate students from the Breeding Department. The principal said they will be responsible for the comprehensive care of your Pokémon over the next few days. Based on your satisfaction level afterward, they will receive corresponding credits," Erika explained.
"Oh right! The professor did mention this to me." Gary nodded and stepped aside. "Please come in."
The girls followed Erika into Gary's office and stood gracefully in front of his desk.
Gary adopted a serious professor demeanor as he sat behind his desk. "Now, please introduce yourselves and what you specialize in."
Erika clapped her hands encouragingly. "Everyone, don't be shy! Professor Gary is very easygoing."
The first girl, wearing denim overalls and a straw hat with pigtails, gathered her courage. "Um~ I'm Lilith, a first-year student in the Breeding Department. I specialize in preparing Pokémon food and soothing their emotions."
After she spoke up, the others began to introduce themselves as well.
"I'm Xue, also a first-year student in Breeding. I excel at Pokémon massage and enhancing their six-dimensional abilities." A gentle girl with waist-length light green hair raised her hand.
"And I'm July, a third-year dual major in Breeding and Coordination. I'm skilled at making energy cubes and shaping Pokémon physiques." A confident girl in black OL attire put her hands on her hips proudly.
Gary nodded in satisfaction. "Great! For the next few days, I'll entrust my Pokémon to you. You can use all your knowledge and materials needed; just charge them to my name at the logistics department.
I expect to see my Pokémon looking energetic rather than listless by the end of this period. At the conclusion, I'll award you credits based on their progress and changes. I hope everyone brings out their professional spirit from Celadon University.
Is that clear?"
"Clear!" The three graduate students nodded earnestly.
"Now you can go meet my Pokémon in the training room. This afternoon, I'm scheduled for a gym teaching match with Erika. Before that, please make sure my Pokémon are in good condition," Gary clapped his hands.
The three girls nodded and hurried toward the training room.
Erika asked excitedly, "Professor Gary, are you going to compete against me this afternoon?"
Gary smiled. "Since I need to collect badges anyway, this teaching match serves both purposes."
"That's great! I'll head back to the gym to prepare; see you at the school playground this afternoon!" Erika replied eagerly.
"Alright, see you at the playground." After sending Erika off, Gary suddenly had a realization.
"System? Little system?!!" Gary silently thought.
"Ding~ Speak your mind or let it out~"
Green was taken aback. "Did you just swallow my reward from Saffron Gym? I didn't hear any notification sound."
"Ding… about that match? I didn't think it was worth mentioning… forget it."
Ding dong Kanto series task initiated: Head towards Indigp Plateau—start now.
Current progress:
Current Task: Obtain Marsh Gym Badge.
Rewards: Achievement Points: 50; Skill Disk: Miracle Eye."
Gary rolled his eyes in dissatisfaction; 50 achievement points felt like pocket change… At least Miracle Eye was somewhat useful.
Considering how Sabrina had flaked out during their match earlier, Gary could only comfort himself internally that this wasn't such a bad deal after all.
