Chapter 62: Chapter 62 – Before the Galen Ruins Tour
The next morning, at the hotel restaurant, while having breakfast, Rico revealed to Adrian and his father, Mr. Fukui, a director of a publishing company in Kawayan City, about Jonathan.
"Wow, I didn't know your older brother was actually alive in Labuyo Town," Mr. Fukui commented.
"Yeah, I can't believe that," Adrian added.
"Yes, and he decided to quit his job as a farmer and inn staff member and join in my journey across Philas," Rico responded back positively.
"Yeah, so we could make up for the lost time we had," Jonathan voiced out his reason.
"I see," Adrian replied back. "Well, how's your journey, Rico?"
"It's good," Rico answered back. "I already acquired 2 gym badges."
This surprises Adrian a lot.
"Woah, what? Two badges in just a few days? That was so fast."
"Yeah, but it wasn't so easy," Rico replied back. "The gym leaders are tougher than I thought. I even almost lost at the Fire-type gym at Labuyo Town."
"Nice. You're so lucky. Anyhow, how's Shion?"
"Oh, um, I haven't heard from her for a while now."
"Well, I got a call from Kale that someone who knew Rico a lot was now in Labuyo Town," Jonathan revealed.
"Oh, really? She's in that town?" Rico asked back.
"Yes, you know her?"
"Yeah, in fact she's my childhood friend."
This surprises Jonathan a lot.
"Wow, I didn't know that."
"Sorry, I forgot about that," Rico replied back.
"Yeah, her name is Shion, Jonathan," Adrian responded.
"Oh, wow. Nice, I guess."
And so, they all resumed eating their breakfast, while their Pokémon were eating their special food nearby.
Later, after 8:01 a.m., all of them are now walking across the sloped streets of Galen City. That city, however, was located on the eastern sloped side of the Enrique Mountains overlooking the Galen Sea. Originally, it used to be a huge kingdom with a volcano island that serves as the main city and hub of the eastern part of the region. But, 1,000 years ago, a volcanic eruption caused the island to submerge into the sea below, dragging along the majority of the land bridge with it. Now, the sloped part of the city is all that remains of the huge kingdom, and the volcano island is now underwater, with the volcano now being extinct.
Due to a lack of flat space, most of the buildings were built on the mountainside and were often made of bricks and concrete. To navigate through the tightly packed city, roads and stairs served as veins that connect almost every part of the city. The city also had a Pokémon Gym, a Water-type gym, a huge Pokémon Center, a shopping mall in the main business district, and a big plaza overlooking the coasts. The city also had strips of white sand beaches for everyone to enjoy. But one that stands out the most in the entire district is the Books of the Coast, a big bronze sculpture of a stack of books located at the main plaza on the coasts. The plaza also was the place where the annual Book Festival was held. For transportation, 3 roads, a small airport, and a big port connected the city to the rest of the region.
As they walked, Rico marveled at the beauty of the city's buildings and took pictures of them using his smartphone.
"Man, I only went here for the festival every year and have never been going around the city," Rico commented. "It's the first time I ever went around the city beyond the route from the airport to a hotel, then to the main plaza."
"Oh really?" Jonathan responded to that. "You only come here for the festival?"
"Yes."
"I see."
Then, Adrian said to them, "Guys, we're going to the main plaza to register first before we go to the port to go on a tour of the Galen Ruins."
"Galen Ruins?" Rico and Jonathan simultaneously asked back.
"It's the site where the majority of this city lies," Adrian explained in response.
"The tour will begin at 10:00 a.m., so we have a few hours to spare," Mr. Fukui added.
"I see," Rico replied. He then became enthusiastic and he continued, "I want to go on that tour!" Then to Jonathan, "How about you, big brother?"
"Well, sure, if it's a tour, I guess," Jonathan responded back while thinking a bit.
"Yay!"
By 8:29 a.m., they arrived at the main plaza and registered their part for the Book Festival. Jonathan decided to register in and choose the book cover entry option so he would give it a try even though Rico didn't say that. Once they had registered, they all went in to help out a little bit with the arrangements for the main event of the festival: The Books and Book Covers Contest. Rico, Jonathan, and their Pokémon helped out by setting up the decorations on the stage, while Adrian and his father helped by arranging the seating and handling the prizes for the contest. By 9:01 a.m., after helping out, they and their teams left the plaza and walked their way to a nearby supermarket to buy some snacks for the upcoming tour.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the Philas region, Blue Eye and her team had reported to their organization, Societea, about her encounter with Rico and his group. Red Eye was alerted, while their fellow admin, Purple Eye, was quite interested in Rico's unique character as Purple Eye puts it. Their leader was displeased but accepted the fact that Rico was like that.
