Chapter 27: Chapter 27: A pity
Ethan's house, though somewhat old-fashioned, was quite spacious—more than enough for the two Pokémon currently living there.
Between the living room and dining area stood a specially purchased, oversized aquarium for Feebas, serving as both a home for the Pokémon and a divider for the space.
Whenever Feebas grew bored, he would watch TV alongside Eevee. However, the remote was Eevee's domain, leaving Feebas at her mercy when it came to choosing what to watch.
Sylphmere Lake wasn't exactly a bustling metropolis—it was as dull as could be. So even when the news aired, Feebas found himself utterly captivated, soaking in human knowledge as though it were the most fascinating thing in the world.
That is, until his view was obstructed by Eevee.
Startled, Feebas blinked at her. Why had she suddenly approached him? Judging by her less-than-friendly expression, this didn't bode well.
"Vee—(Since you've moved in, you need to understand the rules. Other than Ethan, I'm the boss here. From now on, call me Big Sis. Got it?)"
Feebas tilted his head, bewildered. How could a fish possibly respond? Blow bubbles to form words? Eevee's expectation seemed laughably impractical.
Feebas's silence only irritated Eevee further. Was he ignoring her? Could he not understand?
She was about to tap the aquarium glass when she realized—of course, he couldn't talk! Playing it cool, she lowered her paw and continued, "Vee—(Fine. Call me Big Sis later. But you'd better understand this—starting today, you're my little brother. Understood?)"
Feebas wasn't impressed.
He respected Ethan but saw no reason to bow to Eevee. Becoming her subordinate? Why should he?
...
The more prideful a Pokémon, the less likely they were to yield, and Feebas was no exception.
Feebas wasn't just any ordinary Pokémon—he now had a unique Dragon Evolution System. He was filled with confidence about his future, seeing himself as destined for greatness.
You only met Ethan slightly earlier than I did, he thought. Why the arrogance?
With a dismissive glance, Feebas swam away. Why waste time arguing when he could be working on his Evolution System—the key to his ambitions?
The system had laid out a comprehensive growth plan: a water-type Pokémon aiming to become a dragon needed to evolve in stages. The first step was obvious—evolving into Milotic, a milestone on the path to dragonhood.
Apparently, Milotic represented the "Jiao" stage in the system's terms. For now, as Feebas, he needed to enhance his affinity with water and dragon energies.
The system's beginner's package included two critical tools: the Mystic Water and the White Jade Orb. These items were essential for amplifying his elemental strengths.
Since acquiring them, Feebas had been hard at work absorbing their energies, though progress felt painstakingly slow.
It felt like trying to fill a vast lake one drop at a time.
Still, Feebas remained undeterred. After enduring a life of ridicule, even the faintest glimmer of hope was enough to drive him forward.
He would evolve into a dragon, no matter how long it took!
[Ding~ Detected a shift in the host's mindset. Achievement unlocked: "Hidden Dragon in the Abyss." Energy absorption speed increased by 200%!]
The notification stunned Feebas. An achievement? He didn't fully understand it, but any boost was a welcome one.
After breakfast, Ethan retreated to his room to edit videos. He had spent the past two days at Miranda Mountain, gathering plenty of footage.
However, he had agreed to keep certain incidents off the record—like the part where Mankey had harassed tourists. Including such scenes might make the video thrilling but could also spark controversy.
Settling on a more wholesome narrative, Ethan named the video:
"Outdoor Adventures with Eevee Ep. 01: Pear Harvest Festival at Miranda Mountain."
Meanwhile, far away in Alola's Aether Paradise...
A young blonde girl sat nervously before a playful Popplio. She extended her hand toward the Pokémon but hesitated, trembling.
"Pop!"
Popplio chirped encouragingly, inching closer to her.
The girl withdrew her hand, defeated.
Nearby, an elderly butler sighed, watching the scene unfold. "Miss Lillie, you've made progress. You're closer than you were yesterday."
But Lillie shook her head, discouraged. "Thank you, Grandpa William, but... I still can't do it."
As she retreated to her room, the butler gently patted Popplio. "The young miss is almost sixteen. She should have her first Pokémon by now, yet her fear still grips her. What a pity..."
