Chapter 30: Chapter 30: You cruel and venomous soul
"Eat it. Why aren't you eating?" Ethan asked, puzzled as he looked at the dazed Eevee.
Ethan's voice finally pulled Eevee out of her memories. The scars etched deep into her soul—ones that might take a lifetime to heal—started to ache faintly again.
Eevee forced a wry smile and waved her paw dismissively. "Eevee-vee! (I'm not really hungry today, don't feel like eating.)"
As she spoke, she suddenly seemed to recall something and pointed at the Feebas in the aquarium behind her. "Vee! (Let Feebas eat first!)"
Seeing Eevee's selfless gesture, Ethan had a sudden realization. "Ah, I made plenty. There's enough for both of you—no need to be so polite."
Pushing the plate forward with a grin, Ethan added, "Still, I have to praise you for looking out for your new teammate!"
Eevee's mouth twitched. If you want to think of it as caring, I won't stop you.
But no matter what, I'm not eating that!
As Eevee stubbornly turned her head away, Ethan smiled warmly.
"Alright, alright, I give up. Let's have our new teammate try it first!"
With that, Ethan picked up a piece of Pokéblock and walked toward the aquarium.
Inside, Feebas had witnessed everything and was utterly baffled.
How could eating a Pokéblock not be a good thing?
Especially one made by Ethan—it had to be delicious! Combined, this should be as perfect as a Bulbasaur returning home—just phenomenal!
With such thoughts, Feebas swallowed the first Pokéblock Ethan tossed down, and tears streamed down its face.
Why... does it taste this bad?
Bitter and acrid—was this really made for Pokémon to eat?
Eevee, you cruel and venomous soul. This grudge, I, Feebas, will remember forever!
"How's it, Feebas? Does it taste alright?" Ethan asked nervously.
He admitted that while his cooking skills were at the level of a champion, his Pokéblock-making skills were still in their early stages.
Feebas slowly nodded, expressing approval of Ethan's Pokéblocks.
Yes! Ethan silently cheered.
Looks like I've got a knack for making Pokéblocks after all!
Excitedly, he ran back to Eevee. "Quick, Eevee, even Feebas says it's good!"
Eevee skeptically glanced at Feebas in the aquarium. Feebas hadn't spat it out, so maybe it wasn't that bad?
To be fair, not all of Ethan's Pokéblocks were terrible. With random combinations, a decent one occasionally popped up.
Maybe Feebas just got lucky this time?
The more Eevee thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Carefully, she chose a blue Pokéblock—the same kind Ethan had given Feebas.
The moment it entered her mouth, a bitter and sour taste overwhelmed her, like a venomous snake invading her taste buds.
Despite enduring countless battles and headbutts without shedding a tear, Eevee cried.
She instantly understood why Feebas had lied, but it was too late.
When a fish cries, the water knows.
When I, Eevee, cry, who will understand?
Ethan was dumbfounded. Why were Feebas and Eevee giving such drastically different feedback?
Did they have completely different taste systems?
Recalling the story of the young horse crossing the river, Ethan decided to try the Pokéblocks himself.
He specifically chose the blue one, remembering it was made with a 3:3:2 ratio of Oran Berries, Cornn Berries, and Wiki Berries, aimed at enhancing beauty.
But the moment he tasted it, he realized that even if this Pokéblock could enhance beauty, Feebas wouldn't survive long enough to evolve.
This concoction was downright poisonous!
Rushing to the bathroom, Ethan frantically rinsed his mouth for three solid minutes before he finally emerged.
"I'm sorry. From now on, I'll taste every batch of Pokéblocks first!"
Ethan's heartfelt apology earned Eevee's reluctant forgiveness, though she had a better idea in mind.
"Vee-vee! (I think you're not cut out for making Pokéblocks. Let's just buy them instead.)"
Ethan nodded solemnly. "Thank you for the encouragement. I'll work even harder to make Pokéblocks you'll love!"
Eevee: "..."
Ethan clearly understood what Eevee meant, but he refused to give up on his Pokéblock experiments. After all, he planned to make a living from this!
Not to mention, it was the only way for Feebas to evolve into Milotic.
Why the only way? Because beauty scales cost millions! Ethan would need to squeeze Miranda Mountain for funds at least ten more times to afford one.
People with clear life goals tend to be resilient, and Ethan was no exception.
Although his first batch of Pokéblocks had left Feebas silent and Eevee in tears, he wasn't one to give up easily.
In the following days, he experimented tirelessly by day and studied techniques by night. He made so many Pokéblocks that they filled several large boxes. Finally, his skills reached a passable level.
At least he no longer made Pokéblocks so inedible that Pokémon couldn't swallow them.
But for Ethan, this was just the beginning. To create Pokéblocks that could give Feebas enough beauty to evolve was still a long way off.
While Ethan's Pokéblock skills improved, Eevee and Feebas trained without pause.
With Aurora's promised delivery of five Fairy Gems, Eevee gained access to top-tier Fairy-type resources.
One unassuming morning, Ethan noticed Eevee's eyes gleaming with a faint lavender hue during training.
He immediately scooped her up and showered her with affection. "Eevee, you're amazing!"
Eevee learning the move Baby-Doll Eyes was more than just gaining a skill.
It was a small step for Eevee, but a giant leap for Pokémon academia!
If evolution worked like in the games, then the only thing left to improve was her affection level.
However, Eevee, knowing the full evolution conditions, wasn't as optimistic. Unable to tell Ethan directly, she could only try to guide him subtly in the future.
Meanwhile, Feebas devoured Ethan's carefully crafted Pokéblocks, absorbing the high-purity Water-Dragon energy from Mystic Water and Lustrous Orbs, growing at an astonishing rate.
With the recently activated ability [Dragon in the Abyss], Feebas trained at double speed and double intensity.
Initially, it was like scooping water from Sylphme Lake re with a bowl. Now, it was like filling a basin.
What Feebas didn't realize was that whether with a bowl or a basin, the energy it absorbed was worth millions—something most trainers and Pokémon could only dream of affording.
Now, Feebas was like a sapling buried underground, furiously absorbing nutrients and growing its roots.
When it finally broke through the surface, it would undoubtedly shine with unparalleled brilliance.
