Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Moving Slowpoke
First Blood !
Double Kill !
Triple Kill !
Quadra Kill !
With Slowking's Gardevoir assisting, Julian's Metagross had already achieved a quadra kill. Now, he was chasing down the enemy's mage, Alakazam.
As Alakazam got stunned, Metagross unleashed a clean combo of its 3-1-2 abilities, instantly taking down the squishy mage without issue.
"Penta Kill !!"
Excited, Julian shouted along with the in-game announcer.
"Five kills! I'm so f*****g strong," Julian said happily.
With the pentakill secured, their team pushed the enemy base and destroyed the crystal within a minute. The game was over.
"Let's go, next game! My Metagross is unstoppable!"
Julian grinned as he reached to hit the "Start" button for another match.
But before he could, a system prompt suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Ding!"
"Temporary Mission: Haitian City Defense Battle"
"Mission Objective: Limit Haitian City's damage in this disaster to under 30%"
"Rewards:
- 30% damage: Early-stage Elite Experience Card, 3000 points.
- 20% damage: Mid-stage Elite Experience Card, Dragon Origin Orb, 5000 points.
- 10% damage: Peak-stage Elite Experience Card, Steel and Dragon Origin Orbs, 10,000 points.
- No damage: Steel Plate, 100,000 points"
The moment Julian saw the system notification, he sprang from his bed. He carefully reread the prompts, his expression quickly turning grim.
"Slow~"
Slowking, who was still waiting for the next match to start, tilted its head in confusion. Wasn't Julian all pumped for another game? Why had his expression suddenly changed?
Something clicked in Julian's mind, and he hurried to the window. Being on the 30th floor, he had a full view of Haitian City.
From his vantage point, the city sparkled with lights, bustling and calm. Nothing seemed amiss at first glance.
But if the system had issued a mission, it meant a disaster was inevitable—perhaps it had already begun, and he just didn't know it yet.
"What kind of disaster could affect the entire city?" Julian muttered, his mind racing.
Judging by the mission rewards, the scale of the disaster was enormous. Even with 30% damage to Haitian City, the rewards were generous.
A prosperous coastal city like Haitian, with nearly eight million permanent residents, couldn't afford 30% destruction without severe consequences.
And that wasn't even accounting for the influx of tourists, especially with the Hundred Schools League bringing in more visitors than usual.
The current population was estimated at around 8.8 million, a staggering number.
Julian's first thought about the disaster was a Secret Realm outbreak.
---
At the Miller Family Estate, in a hidden chamber, several members of the Miller Family stared eagerly at a Pokémon egg, its surface already showing cracks, signaling that it was about to hatch.
However, none of them noticed the strange, powerful energy waves emanating from the egg.
These waves, though imperceptible to the humans in the room, were keenly felt by every Water-type Pokémon in the area.
In Haitian City, Slowpokes everywhere seemed to receive an unseen command. They began moving in unison, crawling toward the Miller Family Estate.
Although the Slowpokes weren't attacking humans, their synchronized movement disrupted the city's traffic.
Normally docile and slow-moving, these wild Pokémon ignored the bustling vehicles, crossing roads without hesitation.
Drivers swerved to avoid them, and accidents soon followed. Within minutes, the city's entire traffic system was paralyzed.
Efforts by some Trainers to stop the Slowpokes proved futile, as they seemed singularly focused on their destination.
Haitian City, renowned for its abundance of wild Slowpoke, with their population estimated at 500,000 to 600,000.
Their typically gentle and lazy nature had never been an issue.
In fact, they were one of the city's main tourist attractions.
But now, the simultaneous movement of such a massive number of Slowpokes, spread throughout every corner of the city, threw Haitian into complete chaos.
As the Slowpokes advanced, traffic accidents multiplied, and injuries became unavoidable.
Some of the Slowpokes closest to the Miller Family Estate had already reached its gates.
While the estate's walls and main gate initially held them back, a few well-aimed Water Guns blasted a hole in the wall and toppled the gate.
"What's happening?"
"Why are the Slowpokes breaking into the estate?"
"Quick, inform the patriarch!"
The estate's security team struggled to block the Slowpokes' advance while hurriedly contacting the Miller Family head.
In the hidden chamber, the patriarch, Erick, received the call.
"Hello?…"
"Okay, I understand."
Hanging up, he stared at the cracking egg with a mix of doubt and suspicion.
"What's going on, big brother?" asked Derek.
"The Slowpokes outside have broken into our estate. It seems like all the Slowpokes in Haitian City are moving with purpose."
Derek's expression darkened as he pieced it together. "Could it be because of this Pokémon egg?"
Erick nodded gravely. "It's highly likely."
Instead of worrying, Derek's face lit up with excitement. "Big brother, if the Slowpokes are reacting because of the Pokémon inside this egg, then it must be something extraordinary! It could be a mythical or legendary Pokémon—or even a first-tier one!"
The Pokémon hadn't even hatched yet, but it was already displaying such extraordinary traits. One could only imagine how powerful it would become after hatching.
"But these Slowpokes are going to expose it."
While Erick was also thrilled, his excitement didn't cloud his judgment.
The entire city's Slowpokes were on the move, and their destination was highly likely to be the Miller Family Estate. Though it was still early and the public hadn't noticed the specific destination of the Slowpokes, that wouldn't last long.
As time passed, and more Slowpokes congregated at their estate, it would inevitably draw the attention of the authorities.
In fact, they were probably already investigating the movement patterns of the Slowpokes.
Once the authorities determined the Slowpokes' final destination was the Miller Family Estate, the consequences for the Miller Family could be dire.
Worse, the egg that caused the disturbance would almost certainly be confiscated.
"Wait," Erick said suddenly, "didn't that mysterious figure give us a box earlier? Bring it over immediately."
Derek quickly retrieved the box. It was a one-meter-by-one-meter cube made entirely of a transparent material that resembled glass.
The incubator, along with the hatching egg, was placed inside the box, and the lid was sealed.
As soon as the lid clicked shut, the Slowpokes across Haitian City suddenly paused, their expressions turning confused as they glanced around. Their purposeful movement stopped entirely.
Moments ago, they had been able to sense something incredibly important to them, instinctively drawn to its location.
But now, they could no longer pinpoint its position. They still felt its presence somewhere in the city, but its exact location was a mystery.
