"This weather sucks." Ash let out a groan at the all-encompassing fog.

"Pikachu." It agreed as its fur was wet from the humidity.

The mist was so dense they were using Zubats to navigate their way through the terrain.

"Yeah. My hair has a bone to pick with it." Misty complained as her hair curled more and more.

"I think there's a good joke to be made here. But I don't need anymore steam coming out of you in this mist." Ash joked while she rolled her eyes.

"Let's take a break. Maybe it'll get better in a couple of hours." Brock suggested.

"Will you make your crepes? I still can remember their taste from when we ate them at your house." Ash asked with puppy eyes much to the amused looks of everyone.

"Sure. Just get some firewood. Although it'll be hard to find something dry." Brock warned him.

"I'll help you with setting the table up." Misty offered.

Ash and Pikachu searched for twigs and branches but couldn't find anything moderately dry.

"Scree!" Zubat warned the duo that something was up ahead. Pikachu focused his hearing and ran towards the sound with Ash trailing right behind him.

After springing out of the bushes Ash found himself on a clearing of some sort. He could see dull lights in the distance. Intrigued he brought himself closer only to see a couple of children bullying one of them on a treadmill.

"Come on Joe. PokéTech doesn't allow losers into its walls." One boy taunted.

"We don't have all day. Name the pokémon quicker." Another one shouted.

"Pigdey, Arbok." The boy called Joe suddenly lost his balance and fell off the treadmill. Making the boys laugh at his expense.

"Aren't you a cheery bunch. Want to take someone your own size." Ash interrupted the gang.

"Who are you?"

"How dare you talk like that to us prestigious students?"

Ash released his Fearow making the students flinch under its savage gaze. "One more meaningless sentence and I'll personally educate you in how useless you truly are." Ash smiled making the boys sweat and run away.

"Leave them, please?" A meek voice entered Ash's ear.

He turned towards the little boy. "You should learn to respect yourself more. Otherwise people like this will walk all over you." Ash helped the boy stand up.

"I had everything under control. I just made them believe I was less smart." Joe said.

Ash blinked his eyes in surprise. "Oh. And why would you do that?"

The boy looked at Ash with some confusion. "It seems you know nothing about our academy." Ash nodded.

Joe sighed. "It's an elite school for people with money. You could say it's a nursery for future heirs of royalty and companies. And let's just say my family is in the lower middle range. So I have to play nice with the idiots." Joe scratched his head.

Ash smirked at that. "What's the end point of finishing this school. Surely it's not just a waste of everyone's time and money." Pikachu was currently sniffing the treadmill for some reason.

"Ash!" Where are you?" Misty and Brock where searching for him.

Ash called back. "Over here! Pikachu fire a small jolt into the air." His teammates noticed the flare and caught up to the boys in the clearing.

Misty was not happy. "Not only you didn't find any firewood but you got yourself a lost child."

"Well Misty, our loving family won't expand if I don't put in the work." He laught at her struggling to say something back.

The trio introduced themselves to Joe. The boy finished explaining the role of the school. "After graduating we're allowed to enter the Pokémon League tournament without earning badges."

"That's somewhat unfair. How can people that never fought the gym leaders actually think they have a chance against those that did." Misty said.

Joe rolled his eyes at that. "Even though I haven't earned any badges my scores in school rank my strength as a two badge trainer." Making Brock and Misty glare at his cockiness.

"Seeing how you pissed off both of the Gym leaders you'll have to prove yourself in a mock battle my friend. By the way I have two badges. And don't think I'd make it easy for you." Joe shivered under Ash's gaze.

"Damn straight. I'm going to pummel you with my water pokémon. I challenge you to a battle." Misty exclaimed.

"Okay, but I've beaten you plenty of times on the simulator." They both took their places opposite to each other.

"One pokémon each. Standard rules. Let the battle begin." Brock was the judge as usual.

"Go Starmie. We'll kick some butt today." Misty was pumped.

Joe shook his head. "Go Weepinbell. Use Razor Leaf." The grass pokémon hurled a dozen of leaves straight towards the star pokémon.

"Use rapid spin to block and dodge Starmie." The water pokémon evaded and found itself right behind the bell shaped pokémon. "Hydro Pump now!" Misty shouted.

"Craff!" Starmie released a strong stream of water making the grass pokémon hit a nearby tree and causing it to faint.

Joe was astonished. "No, this shouldn't be right. Grass pokémon always win against water pokémon." He said begrudgingly and recaptured his Weepinbell.

Ash looked at him. "Always? You do realize water pokemon not only are faster then grass pokémon but also have move coverage? Ice being the most obvious one. What are they even teaching you in classes? Because from what I've seen not strategy." He made the boy blush from embarrassment.

Misty puffed her chest. "And a good trainer is able to go against the odds. The weakness chart is just a suggestion."

"Come on guys. That'll be enough posturing for today." Brock grabbed the duo by their collars making them pout.

"Anyway. Would you like a tour of my school?" Joe asked.

The trio agreed and after picking up their left behind stuff they followed the boy. After a couple of minutes the group finally was out of the foggy forest. Before them the academy complex appeared in its full glory.

Ash whistled. "You weren't kidding when you said this was for the elite. Even a brick seems worth more than my clothes altogether."

"Pika pika." Pikachu nodded. It was the first time it saw such a grand, almost palace-like structure.

"Are there many students here?" Misty asked.

"Although it looks like this not many are privileged to be here. Money can buy many things. But if your results aren't up to standard you'll find yourself kicked out without a bat of an eye." Joe said.

"Question. Has anyone from this school ever won the Indigo League?" Ash asked.

Joe thought for a bit. "Now that you've mentioned it I can't bring up any worthwhile names. A couple of semifinalists but no champions."

"Well that's useless." Ash lost his interest with the school.

"Useless?" A female voice reached the group's ears.

"Giselle? What is she doing her?" Joe wondered.

"She's so fine." Brock said with hearts showing in his eyes.

"Indeed. That's what I said." Ash confirmed while seizing the new person up.

"Aren't you a little pervert?" She suddenly playfully winked at him.

Ash looked at her face. "I'm ten. And you've pissed off my parole officer." He pointed at Misty who was banging some sense into Brock's head.

"Anyway, are you the queen bee of this school? You seem the type. Overly gorgeous to a fault. With some superiority complex hidden in the mix." A tick mark appeared on the young ladies forehead.

"Give it to her Ash!" Misty cheered on.

"See. I've got her trained." Ash laught and ran behind Giselle to run away from a fuming redhead.

The school girl sighed. "Is this the drama of the poor?" She brushed her hair back.

"Said the girl that almost blown her own cover. Anyway. I'm Ash Ketchum. Your future lord and savior." He winked.

"Since you want to hide behind that hussy I'm going to challenge her to a pokémon battle." Misty raged.

"Two girls battling for my honor? See Brock, I'm a prize." His friend was taking notes in the background.

"No you're not." The two girls yelled.

"I won't back down from a challenge. Let's see if you're worth my time." Giselle said.

Fortunately a battlefield was nearby. Brock once again took the role of the judge.

"Starmie I chose you." Misty released the star pokémon.

"Go Graveler." Surprisingly this was Giselle's pokémon. The middle evolution of the Geodude line. It looked like a big rugged boulder with a cocky expression and more arms.

"Starmie use Bubblebeam." Waves of bubbles launched towards the enemy's pokémon.

"Use Defense Curl and then Rollout." Giselle ordered.

"Graveler!" The rock/ground pokémon began rolling through the incoming bubbles. It didn't seem to faze it one bit.

"Another water resistant ground type pokémon? Did she torture that pokémon like A.J.?" Misty blurted out in surprise.

"Well see does seem like a sadist." Ash pondered.

"She's an angel." Joe commented.

"Yeah, I won't listen to the opinion of a masochist like you Joey." The boy blushed at that statement.

"Starmie use Reflect now!" A barrier appeared before Starmie. Stopping the Graveler in its tracks.

"Let's see how long can your pokémon resist. Roll faster Graveler!" The pokémon increased the power and speed of it's attack. Grinding against the wall between the two pokémon.

Misty saw cracks in the Reflect. She had to salvage the situation somehow. "Starmie start preparing Hydro Pump."

"Graveler push through." The rolling rock pokémon finally broke through the barrier.

Starmie released the harsh stream of water. But it was useless at that point. The enemy's pokémon had build up too much momentum to be stopped. Graveler hit Starmie right on its gem. Sending the water pokémon out of the field straight into the nearby pool. Starmie drifted back to the surface. It's gem was blinking in and out signaling that it fainted.

"The match is over. Starmie is unable to battle. Giselle wins." Brock announced.

Misty ran quickly towards her pokémon. "Starmie are you alright? I'm so sorry." She held Starmie in her arms.

"Hmph. Who's useless now?" Giselle smirked.

Ash sighed. "Look at what you've done. Now I have to defend her honor. En garde Ms. Giselle." He mock bowed.

"Another misguided lamb heading towards slaughter? I'll make you squeal." Brock fainted from the overload of words.

Ash and Pikachu looked at their friend. "Yeah. This means no mercy." The duo grinned.

Giselle wasn't fazed by this. "Spare me the theatrics. I have violin lessons after this poor excuse of a starter."

"Retribution is near, go Pikachu!" Ash commanded.

"Ha, let's see how you handle this. Sandshrew clean this mess."

"Scared much? Using a type advantage towards little old me?" Ash stuck his tongue out.

Annoyed she cut down to business. "Sandshrew Sand Attack!" A wave of sand headed towards the electric mouse.

"Pikachu use Agility to charge you know what." Pikachu evaded and his tail started to shine.

"Hmph. You're going to use Flash? What a waste of my time. Use Rapid Spin!" Sandshrew curled into a ball and began crushing Pikachu's afterimages.

"Stop it in its tracks. Iron Tail!"

"Pika pika!" It hit Sandshrew from the side. The pokémon was sent flying towards the wall of the school. Sandshrew groaned from the impact, making it pass out in the process.

"What's that move!?" Giselle hasn't heard of the technique before.

Ash patted Pikachu for a job well done. "That was a steel type move. Apparently they're not well known here in Kanto. Strange since we have our own Magnemite line which is a floating piece of scrap."

The group was stunned by the revelation. "And how do you know Ash?" Misty asked.

"And tell you all of my secrets? You have to stick around me for more to find out." He winked much to their indignation.

A net seemingly from nowhere captured the group. Several similar smaller nets captured the pokémon. Laughter reached the ears of Ash and co.

"Prepare for trouble." Jessie had a wicked smile.

"Make it double." James smirked at the nonplussed faces of their victims.

"To protect the world from devastation!"

"To unite all people within our nation!"

"Giselle!" A crowd of students interrupted Team Rocket.

"Jenny is coming for you, you bozos." A girl shouted.

"Let's release our pokémon and show them the power of PokéTech!" Many lights flashed in and out revealing a multitude of different pokémon.

"Meowth that's....oh no." Sweat dropped from it's face. As it was trying to back away from the scene it bumped into something.

"Hey, what gives..ah!" Meowth screamed seeing a pissed off Kangaskan towering over it.

The students helped out Ash and the gang and released them from the net's clutches.

Misty fired off her mallet and bonked the criminal teens on their heads. "Why are you so persistent in going where we are!?"

"Stars? Did we blast off again?" A dazed and lying on the floor James asked.

"I'm going to rip a new hole in that red midget." Jessie fumed.

Giselle walked up towards the duo. "You both seem familiar. She said. "I know, we have a picture of you in the hall." She remembered.

"Really? I always knew we were going to become history." Jessie had stars in her eyes.

"Yeah, we have photos of you two flunked rejects to remember what to not become." Ash laught at Giselle's explanation.

James groaned. "Why is it that everywhere we go we get mocked?"

"What did you expect? A welcomed greeting for the biggist blemish of this school's history?" The students jeered.

"I think that's enough. They're crying." Brock calmed the crowd down.

"Let's tie them up for Officer Jenny." Some girl said. The duo was wrapped up like a piece of ham.

"Since the side quest is over can we finally have that promised tour of this school?" Ash asked Joe.

"Sorry but no outsiders are allowed in the school. Unless they're family members." Giselle stated the academy's safety policy.

"Well that was a pointless trip." Misty said.

"I'm sorry guys. But I can still treat you to lunch." Joe scratched his head from embarrassment.

The trio of friends split up and sat with different groups of students. Brock tried to sit with the senior girls only to be mocked endlessly by their disdain for his advances. Misty found a couple of like-minded people who loved water pokémon and chilled with them by the pool. Ash sat next to Joe and talked about his understandings about different pokémon strategies.

"Are you sure you only have two badges?" He asked Ash.

Ash was sipping on some nice ice coffee. It was surprisingly hot there. "Well I have only recently left my home town. About two weeks in fact." He rubbed Pikachu's big belly. He should control how much this prankster eats.

"Did you go to any school? You're too knowledgeable for a rookie." Giselle sat down next to them.

"I'm from Pallet Town. Professor Oak's lab is just around the corner. I'd be embarrassed if I'd not soaked some tips and tricks just by being in his vicinity."

The duo nodded in agreement. "Plus I'm not as smart as someone would think. True, I'm battle smart. I think I'm also okay in the training department. But for other concepts I only have rudimentary knowledge." Ash said with some modesty gaining some appreciation from the people listening in.

"This is a learning institution after all. We have many subjects and blocks pertaining all aspects of pokémon." Giselle said.

"True but I don't think that makes you better in the battle department. After all you lost to a 10 year old." He winked at her small blush.

"Are you done flirting with her." Misty pulled his ear.

"Why are you so hot-headed when you've been at the pool just a second ago?" He rubbed his sore ear.

"It doesn't do good analyzing the jealous mind." Giselle giggled at Misty's stammering.

"I'd like to come back here someday to hear more about the science of preparing food for pokémon." Brock joined back.

"Yes. We all know why you'd want to come back here." Ash smirked and Misty rolled her eyes at the young man.

"Thanks for the food. I believe we have to go. Otherwise we won't reach the next PokéCenter in time." Ash put the burping Pikachu on his shoulder.

The group said its goodbyes and continued on their way to Vermillion.

"Do you think we finally got rid of those troublemakers?" Misty asked.

"Team Rocket? Not by a long shot." Ash grimaced.

"Why's that Ash?" Brock asked.

"Destiny I suppose. It's almost as if they were chosen by the heavens to be a pain in my side. Tragic as I already have two children to babysit around." Ash laught and ran once again away from Misty with Brock in hot pursuit of the duo.
