"Oh my God, I didn't expect you to take them down all on your own!"
Ranger stared in astonishment at the unconscious Scyther and Ursaring, as well as Adu, who lay unconscious nearby.
"Thankfully, I used a sneak attack, and with Abra's support, it wasn't too difficult," Tyson replied calmly, as if he had merely accomplished a routine task.
"No, no, no! Regardless, you've helped me out tremendously!"
"Hand me your Pokédex. I'll log this mission under your trainer profile, and your contribution points will be credited."
Still visibly shaken, Ranger's professionalism took over as he gestured for Tyson's Pokédex.
Tyson felt a bit lucky. Meeting a ranger as amiable as this guy was uncommon, though it was possible Ranger had mistaken him for a special trainer due to Abra's Psychic prowess. Tyson chose not to clarify.
"Don't be modest—give me your Pokédex. You've earned this."
Seeing Tyson hesitate, Ranger spoke with resolute sincerity.
With a slight shrug, Tyson reluctantly handed over his Pokédex. This world is so imaginative, he mused. A single moment of hesitation, and who knows what conclusions they'll draw.
"Now that's more like it."
Ranger swiftly recorded the mission details into the device.
"All set. You can view the mission information anytime. Thanks again for your help—I'll take this guy to face justice now."
Returning the Pokédex to Tyson, Ranger called out his Charizard, secured Adu, and prepared to leave.
"Take care, and I wish you safe travels!"
"Goodbye."
Tyson watched as Ranger took off on Charizard's back, with Adu dangling awkwardly in the Charizard's claws.
The moment Charizard disappeared from view, Tyson's Charmeleon stopped staring and let out a low rumble.
"Don't worry. At the rate you're growing, you'll evolve into a Charizard soon enough—and when you do, you'll be even stronger than the one we just saw!"
Tyson placed a hand on Charmeleon's shoulder, his voice filled with certainty.
When Ranger's Charizard appeared earlier, Tyson had used the system to assess its strength—it was at the Elite level. Even so, Tyson felt confident. With the system's support, he believed Charmeleon would reach that level in no time.
Since Charmeleon had broken through to the advanced stage, Tyson had adjusted the frequency of his stat boosts, opting to allocate points every five days. Even with this slower pace, it would take less than two months for Charmeleon to reach the Elite level. By then, Ranger's Charizard would likely remain stagnant, unable to close the gap.
Charmeleon gave a determined nod, its fiery tail swaying with vigor. It seemed eager for a real challenge—perhaps in Pewter City.
Pewter City stood at the base of a towering, rugged mountain. Everything about it, from its architecture to its atmosphere, exuded a sense of unyielding strength.
Aside from the Pewter Gym, the city was known for its museum, which housed ancient artifacts, fossils, and even space exploration models.
Being so close to Mt. Moon, Pewter City attracted many trainers hoping to encounter rare Pokémon like Clefairy or to hone their skills in the rocky terrain. The surrounding mountains also concealed archaeological treasures, drawing teams of researchers eager to uncover the past.
As Tyson strolled through the city, he couldn't help but notice its grounded and sturdy aesthetic. Even the buildings seemed to carry the weight of the mountains nearby.
Of course, one could describe it as having a "unique style" or, with less tact, call the architecture rather plain.
After orienting himself using the Pokédex's map, Tyson located the Pewter Gym and headed over.
"Hello, you'll need to register and schedule a match before challenging the Gym Leader," said a staff member with a polite smile, stopping Tyson as he approached.
Three imaginary sweat drops formed on Tyson's head.
Of course, I'm not the protagonist. I don't get the luxury of skipping lines like Ash does...
With a resigned sigh, Tyson handed over his Pokédex to register and picked up a brochure about the Pewter Gym while waiting.
"So, Brock's still the Gym Leader. Looks like Ash won't begin his journey for quite some time," Tyson remarked with mild disappointment.
If given the chance, Tyson would have loved to battle iconic characters from the anime. Unfortunately, it seemed that opportunity was still out of reach.
After finishing the registration, Tyson headed to the Pokémon Center.
"Hello, here's my Pokédex. I'd like to check in," Tyson said, approaching the front desk.
"Understood," the receptionist replied, skillfully processing his request.
Though Nurse Joy was a staple at every Pokémon Center, Tyson noted that the facilities also employed additional staff. Even with the help of Pokémon like Chansey, handling the daily influx of trainers required a team effort.
"By the way, we're hosting a battle tournament soon. If you're interested, you should consider joining—the prizes are quite enticing," the staff member suggested.
"I'll definitely join. Thanks for the heads-up."
Taking the flyer handed to him, Tyson left to find his room.
Battle tournaments were common in various towns, drawing trainers eager to compete for prestigious prizes. These events often served as a way for towns to attract visitors, boost local economies, and promote tourism.
For this particular tournament, the grand prize was a year's supply of Pokéblocks. Unfortunately, the type of Pokémon catered to by the blocks wasn't specified.
Still, Tyson wasn't discouraged. The real value of the tournament lay in giving Charmeleon the chance to gain valuable battle experience.
After confirming that the tournament wouldn't conflict with his Gym challenge, Tyson headed to the registration point to ensure he didn't miss the deadline.
