Gary peered into the moving bushes with a mix of curiosity and caution. Something unusual was there, rustling without wind, a peculiar sight for the quiet forest near Viridian City.
"Let's check it out," Gary whispered to his Squirtle, staying vigilant.
"Johnny!" Squirtle nodded, ready for action.
Gary stepped closer, using the advantage of the forest trail's height to peer into the grass. What he saw puzzled him—a small pile of leaves and weeds floating eerily above the ground.
"What kind of Pokémon hides like that?" Gary muttered. His mind raced through possibilities, recalling Pokémon that might use camouflage, but none in the Kanto region seemed to fit the description.
"Squirtle, use Water Gun on that pile!" Gary instructed.
With a swift "Johnny!" Squirtle unleashed a precise Water Gun, scattering the strange pile of leaves and revealing the Pokémon hiding within.
"Egg~! Egg!!!"
Six pink eggs rolled into view. Five had visible cracks, their expressions varying from angry to sad, while the center egg remained smooth and intact.
[LV10 Exeggcute ♂ | Gym Potential]
"Exeggcute!" Gary exclaimed. The sight of the Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon sparked excitement.
Gary's Decision
Gary's Eye of Insight revealed that this Exeggcute had Gym-level potential. Not only was Exeggcute a valuable Pokémon due to its dual typing, but it also evolved into Exeggutor, a formidable Pokémon with a base stat total of 530—higher than even Venusaur's.
"This is perfect!" Gary thought. Exeggutor's utility, especially with its rare Psychic typing, made it an excellent addition to his team. He also knew that using a high-quality Leaf Stone could boost its potential during evolution.
"Squirtle, Water Gun again!" Gary commanded.
The startled Exeggcute quickly tried to defend itself by summoning a shimmering Reflect, but Gary smirked.
"Water Gun is a special attack—Reflect won't work!"
The stream of water broke through the barrier, striking Exeggcute directly. Exeggcute wobbled but retaliated by firing a series of Leech Seeds at Squirtle.
"Rapid Spin to counter it!" Gary ordered.
Squirtle tucked into its shell, spinning rapidly to deflect the seeds. It charged forward, colliding with Exeggcute's weakened barrier and delivering another Water Gun mid-spin.
The final blow sent Exeggcute sprawling. The pink eggs rolled apart, their eyes spinning in defeat.
The First Capture
Gary didn't hesitate. He pulled out an empty Poké Ball and hurled it with precision.
"Go, Poké Ball!"
The ball struck Exeggcute, enveloping it in red light before falling to the ground. It rocked once, twice, and then clicked shut with a satisfying sound.
[Ding! Mission completed. Rewards have been deposited in the space backpack.]
"I did it!" Gary cheered, lifting the Poké Ball triumphantly.
"Johnny! Johnny!" Squirtle joined in, celebrating the victory. The loyal Pokémon even fetched the Poké Ball and handed it to Gary.
"Thanks, buddy," Gary said, patting Squirtle's head affectionately. He quickly accessed the Poké Ball's data to examine his new teammate.
Exeggcute's Attributes
[Pokémon: Exeggcute]
Type: Grass/Psychic
Level: 10
Potential: Gym
Ability: Chlorophyll (Increases speed in sunlight)
Moves: Absorb, Hypnosis, Reflect, Leech Seed
Intimacy: 121/255
"Chlorophyll is an excellent ability," Gary noted. The speed boost under sunlight would be a tactical advantage in battle.
He was relieved that the Exeggcute didn't have the Harvest ability, which was more suited for farming than battling. In real life, abilities like Harvest were practical for orchard owners, but not for competitive Trainers.
A New Challenge
Just as Gary admired his new Pokémon, the system chimed again.
[Ding! New Task Assigned: Green Champion Team]
Capture and raise the following Pokémon:
1. Blastoise
2. Pidgeot
3. Alakazam
4. Rhydon
5. Arcanine
6. Exeggutor
[Rewards:]
10 High-Level Rare Candies (For Pokémon below level 70: +1 level each)
10 Intermediate Rare Candies (For Pokémon below level 50: +1 level each)
Bronze Crown, Silver Crown, and Gold Bottle Cap (Increase potential by +1 tier for non-Legendary Pokémon)
"Green Champion Team!" Gary's eyes widened as he recognized the lineup. This was the team of the Champion from Pokémon Origins, also known as the "Green" Champion. Gary realized the task was a nod to his future potential as a Trainer.
"The rewards are incredible," Gary murmured. Rare Candies and items that could enhance potential were valuable beyond measure.
Gary smiled, determination blazing in his eyes. "Looks like I have my next goal. Let's build the ultimate team."
Moving Forward
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Gary and Squirtle began their walk back to Viridian City. The forest was quiet except for the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant cries of wild Pokémon.
Gary glanced at the Poké Ball containing Exeggcute, feeling a surge of pride. It wasn't just about completing the task; it was about building a team that could stand at the pinnacle of the Pokémon world.
"Johnny!" Squirtle's cheerful cry broke Gary's thoughts.
Gary laughed. "Don't worry, buddy. You're going to be the cornerstone of this team. Let's get stronger together."
And so, Gary's journey continued, the dream of becoming the greatest Pokémon Trainer driving him forward.
