Pokémon: The truth behind the power

Chapter 23: Chapter 22

—Charizard! —exclaimed Friede, kneeling next to his defeated partner. The sadness in his eyes was evident, but he quickly composed himself—. Thank you for the battle! I learned a lot today.

James approached him, feeling a mix of sympathy and respect for the young trainer. Friede turned to leave, but James stopped him.

—Wait a moment —said James, walking towards him with determination.

Friede turned back to look at him, curious.

—What's up?

James pulled the Earth Badge from his pocket and held it out in front of Friede.

—I want you to have this —he said sincerely—. For having only five badges, you've proven to be a great trainer. You deserve it.

Friede's eyes widened in surprise.

—Are you sure it's okay for a gym leader to give a badge when the challenger has lost? —he asked, doubt creeping into his voice.

James shrugged, feeling a bit uncertain.

—The truth is I'm not really sure... After all, I'm just the substitute gym leader —he admitted while recalling how Ash had received several badges in Kanto without winning all the battles—. But I think it shouldn't be something unusual.

Friede hesitated for a moment but then smiled broadly.

—Alright! I accept —he finally said, taking the badge with gratitude—. Thank you, James! The next time we meet, I'll beat you!

James let out a light and genuine laugh.

—I look forward to that day —he replied as Friede walked away from the gym, feeling that he had forged a special connection in that brief but intense battle.

Night had fallen over the west of Fuchsia City, and the stars twinkled like silent witnesses to what was about to happen. Proton was there, dressed in a black suit with a large red R on the left side of his chest. Beside him were four other individuals; they all seemed nervous but excited about the mission ahead: taking a fortress hidden among the brush, one of the strongholds of the Pokémon Hunters Organization.

Proton entered the fortress with a twisted smile on his face, a mix of excitement and madness shining in his eyes. The darkness of the place enveloped him like a cloak, feeding his thirst for chaos. Around him, members of the Pokémon hunters organization were unsuspecting, confident in their security. However, Proton had no intention of letting that confidence last.

—Mismagius, go! —he shouted as he threw the Poké Ball into the air. His ghost Pokémon emerged with an ethereal whisper, ready to follow its master's orders.

With quick and precise movements, Proton began executing his plan. Mismagius used "Confusion," disorienting the guards who tried to react. The hunters' faces shifted from surprise to panic as their minds clouded by the psychic attack.

—Weezing! Crobat! —called Proton, enjoying the chaos unfolding around him. Weezing released a toxic cloud that filled the air, causing the hunters to cough and stagger while Crobat flew high, launching quick and precise attacks.

Proton moved among the shadows, laughing with maniacal satisfaction as he watched his enemies fall one after another. However, as he advanced deeper into the fortress, a piercing scream stopped him in his tracks. He halted before a large room filled with caged Pokémon; their bodies were bruised and their gazes reflected palpable terror.

Proton's laughter momentarily faded upon seeing those innocent beings suffering. While he didn't care much for human life, there was something about the purity of Pokémon that touched him deeply.

—What the hell have they done to you? —he murmured to himself as he approached the cages. The image of those tortured Pokémon provoked a strange mix of rage and sadness within him.

Without thinking twice, he took out his Vileplume.

—Aromatherapy! —he ordered urgently. Vileplume exhaled a gentle fragrance that began calming the frightened Pokémon; their fears seemed to dissipate momentarily.

As the Pokémon started to relax under the effect of the healing move, Proton felt a flicker of satisfaction bubbling within him. It was a strange sight; although he enjoyed the chaos and madness he sowed around him, there was something inside him that still cared for the well-being of those Pokémon.

With quick and determined hands, he began opening cages one by one. The Pokémon hesitated at first but soon began moving with more confidence.

—Freedom! —shouted Proton with frenetic laughter as he watched the Pokémon escape into the starlit night. But his joy was short-lived; he knew he had to act quickly before someone interrupted him.

With a swift turn, Proton headed toward the members of the organization he had previously captured. With a sadistic smile on his face, he began tying them up with ropes and then hung them upside down from the ceiling beams.

—This should keep them busy —said Proton as he contemplated his masterpiece—. Don't worry... the fun is just beginning!

The hunters hung helplessly and confused; some tried to scream or protest, but fear shone in their eyes at witnessing the madness unleashed before them. Proton enjoyed every second; it was a macabre and twisted game.

It was an odd internal conflict: while Proton reveled in chaos and madness around him, there was still something inside him that cared about those Pokémon's well-being. That duality made him so unpredictable; a monster capable of horrendous acts but also capable of showing compassion towards innocent beings like Pokémon. And as he disappeared into darkness, that internal struggle remained latent in his twisted mind.

—Did you think you could capture these Pokémon without consequences? —he mocked as he passed by them—. Now you will experience what it's like to be trapped.

Proton moved with frenetic energy while contemplating the Pokémon hunters hanging upside down from the ceiling beams. The maniacal laughter that had erupted from him during the attack had transformed into an unsettling calmness. With a gesture of his hand, he called Weezing, who floated beside him, ready to follow his orders.

—Weezing, release your most poisonous gas —ordered Proton, his voice filled with twisted delight. The expression on his face was a mix of madness and satisfaction as if he were about to carry out a masterpiece of torture.

Weezing inhaled deeply, its twin bodies beginning to inflate as it absorbed the contaminated air surrounding it. With deliberate movement, it released a dense greenish cloud of toxic gas that began filling the room. The stench was nauseating—a poison promising havoc on those trapped's bodies and minds.

The hunters began screaming and coughing; their faces contorted in pain and despair. Proton watched with delight as he enjoyed watching suffering unfold before him. Each scream resonated in his ears like music; it was a reminder of power over them.

—Did you think you could capture Pokémon without consequences? —mocked Proton as he walked among them again enjoying chaos he'd sown. His laughter was cold and cruel—a haunting echo of his psychopathic nature.

As hunters struggled for breath, Proton stopped in front of one man whose eyes reflected terror.

—How about you stay here for a while? —said Proton with a twisted smile—. I promise this experience will be unforgettable.

With that said, he turned around and began graffitiing an enormous letter R on the outer wall of the fortress. Each stroke symbolized his dominance—a reminder that Team Rocket was always present. As he finished his masterpiece, he felt twisted satisfaction watching how poisonous gas continued affecting hunters.

However, just as he was about to leave, a dark figure appeared at the entrance. A man wrapped in a black cloak approached slowly accompanied by a Gengar grinning with a macabre expression.

—Do you think after what you did tonight you can just walk away? —the man asked in deep resonant voice.

Proton stopped dead in his tracks feeling an unsettling chill run down his spine. The atmosphere changed dramatically; all fun and chaos he'd enjoyed until now turned into palpable tension.

Gengar let out an eerie laugh while Proton stared at this shadowy man feeling something larger looming ahead.

The scene hung suspended in air leaving Proton trapped between madness and uncertainty as darkness surrounded him.

James settled into a small restaurant in Viridian where aroma from stir-fried noodles and spices enveloped air like warm embrace. Beside him lay his loyal Arcanine resting its head on its paws enjoying moment together. However tranquility shattered when television mounted on wall sprang to life showing images that made stomach churn.

—we're receiving chilling reports from Fuchsia City —announced journalist her grave voice resonating throughout establishment screen displayed bodies hanging from ceiling fortress—a macabre spectacle seemingly pulled from nightmare flickering light illuminating horrified faces diners around.

The journalist continued her tone now laden urgency: —The victims are members of an illegal organization dedicated hunting Pokémon We're joined by Officer Jenny provide further details regarding this tragedy.

Camera panned toward Officer Jenny who looked visibly affected her eyes reflecting deep pain while trying maintain composure before cameras.

—What we've found is... devastating —Jenny said her voice trembling slightly— The bodies show clear signs having been killed by poison We're investigating how this happened who's behind it all.

James felt chill run down spine; these hunters were despicable held some hatred since scene involving little Eevee didn't like them at all didn't know what think about what happened remembered stories heard regarding cruel methods lack respect towards Pokémon But this image different—it served brutal reminder cost conflict.

Scene abruptly shifted showing Giovanni leader Viridian gym somber expression addressing cameras.

—I deeply regret what occurred —Giovanni began tone almost convincing— I'd been tasked bring these hunters justice but unfortunately... arrived too late Evil Team Rocket has murdered these individuals.

James raised an eyebrow upon hearing those words; Giovanni always had clever way manipulating narratives favorably Invisible quotes around "evil" echoed mind like ironic reminder.

—we're working restore order —Giovanni continued—assuring this wouldn't happen again.
