POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Winner

"Onix!" Brock exclaimed in disbelief. He couldn't fathom what had just happened. His Onix—a powerhouse known for its defense—had been pushed back a staggering three or four meters by Ash's Pidgeotto. The impact clearly dealt noticeable damage to the Rock Snake Pokémon.

What baffled Brock even more was that Pidgeotto's sudden surge in power didn't make sense. Its strength hadn't evolved to elite levels; it was still classified as a standard Pokémon. Yet the force it displayed was extraordinary.

The spectators were equally shocked. Many stood up, some with hands clasped over their mouths, others murmuring in awe. Misty, however, beamed with excitement. For the first time during the battle, Ash had a real shot at victory.

Ash himself wore a smile of determination. He observed Pidgeotto closely. Though the Flying Pokémon was panting from exertion, it still held a glint of confidence in its eyes. The last attack had drained some of its energy, but it wasn't out of the fight yet.

Meanwhile, Onix groaned, shaking its head in an attempt to recover from the powerful blows. It was clearly injured, particularly around its head, but it had not yet been defeated.

Ash knew this was his moment. "Sure enough," he muttered under his breath. "We can do this!"

Pidgeotto, too, seemed to realize its potential. Though fatigued, it replayed the prior sequence in its mind. By combining its Quick Attack with Wing Attack, it had delivered a devastating strike—something it didn't even think was possible.

Brock, still recovering from the shock, analyzed the situation. "What's happening? Did Pidgeotto somehow use two energies simultaneously?" His mind raced for answers, but he knew one thing for sure: Ash had found a way to maximize Pidgeotto's strength through unconventional tactics.

Without losing focus, Brock issued his next command. "Onix, use Rock Slide!"

Onix roared, summoning its Rock-type energy. A massive boulder appeared before it, quickly shattering into dozens of smaller rocks that hurtled toward Pidgeotto.

"The opportunity is here!" Ash's eyes gleamed with excitement. Brock had just revealed a critical opening in his strategy.

"Pidgeotto, use Quick Attack and Wing Attack together!" Ash shouted, his voice carrying a tone of absolute confidence.

"Pidgeooo—!" Pidgeotto cried out, activating both moves simultaneously. Its translucent white aura from Quick Attack combined with the sky-blue energy of Wing Attack, creating an almost ethereal glow around it.

With incredible speed, Pidgeotto dodged the onslaught of falling rocks. It soared through the debris, closing in on Onix with laser-like precision. In a flash, it struck Onix with its energy-coated wings, creating a powerful shockwave upon impact.

"Bang!"

The force of the attack lifted Onix off the ground slightly before it crashed back down with a thunderous thud. The sheer sight of the massive Rock Snake Pokémon being launched backward left the audience gasping in disbelief.

"What is this combination?" Brock muttered, his mind racing. "It's not just Quick Attack or Wing Attack. It's something else entirely…"

But before Brock could strategize further, Ash kept the pressure on.

"Pidgeotto, keep it up! Attack again!"

Pidgeotto wasted no time, launching itself back into the air and repeating the dual attack. Its wings shimmered with energy as it struck Onix in the same vulnerable spot, causing the giant Pokémon to groan in pain.

Brock, desperate to turn the tide, called out, "Onix, use Smack Down!"

Despite its injuries, Onix obeyed. Swinging its massive tail with all its might, it aimed directly for Pidgeotto.

"Dodge it with Quick Attack!" Ash commanded, his voice steady.

Pidgeotto moved like a blur, effortlessly avoiding Onix's tail. Without missing a beat, it delivered another devastating blow with Wing Attack, this time targeting Onix's head once more.

"Bang!"

For the third time, Onix's body recoiled from the impact, and it struggled to maintain its balance. The repeated attacks were beginning to take a toll.

"Still no critical hit…" Ash murmured, slightly frustrated. He had deliberately directed Pidgeotto to target Onix's head, a spot with relatively weaker defense. But Onix's natural resilience and strength were making it difficult to land a decisive blow.

Brock, meanwhile, gritted his teeth. He could see that Onix was on the verge of collapse. Its movements were slower, its attacks less precise. Yet, he refused to give up.

"Onix, we're not done yet! Use everything you've got!"

Onix let out a defiant roar, gathering its remaining strength. But Ash was unrelenting.

"Pidgeotto, one more time! Quick Attack and Wing Attack together!"

"Pidgeottooooo!" The Flying Pokémon dove toward Onix with incredible speed. Its energy-charged wings gleamed as it delivered one final, powerful strike.

"Boom!"

The impact sent Onix crashing to the ground with a thunderous roar. Dust and debris filled the battlefield, obscuring the outcome for a moment.

When the dust settled, Onix lay motionless on the ground, its eyes closed.

"Onix is unable to battle. The winner is Pidgeotto!" the referee declared, raising a flag in Ash's direction. "The victory of this Gym Challenge goes to Ash!"

The audience erupted into cheers, their applause echoing through the gymnasium. Ash stood still for a moment, taking it all in before a wide grin spread across his face.

"You did it, Pidgeotto!" he shouted, running to his Pokémon and scooping it up in his arms. Pikachu joined the celebration, hopping onto Ash's shoulder and cheering alongside him.

"Bi—!" Pidgeotto chirped, clearly proud of its accomplishment. Though it was exhausted, the victory was worth every ounce of energy it had spent.

On the sidelines, Misty watched the scene with admiration. She clutched her hands together, her eyes softening as she gazed at Ash. "He's really something special…"

Brock approached Ash, his expression a mix of defeat and respect. "Ash, that was incredible. I've never seen a combination like that before. You and Pidgeotto make an amazing team."

Ash smiled, scratching the back of his head. "Thanks, Brock. It wasn't easy, but Pidgeotto gave it everything it had. We've still got a long way to go, though."

Brock nodded and handed Ash a badge. "You've earned this, Ash. The Boulder Badge is yours."

Ash took the badge, holding it up triumphantly for everyone to see. "We did it, guys!"
