POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 88: Chapter 89: One-to-One Victory

"You don't seriously intend to send Pikachu, a Pokémon better suited as a pet, into battle, do you?" Sundae sneered as Ash took his position on the battlefield. Her dismissive tone made Pikachu's eyes narrow with determination.

"Look down on Pikachu, huh?" Ash replied, his expression unreadable. Pikachu bristled with barely restrained anger, sparks flashing faintly on his red cheeks.

"Pickup! Pikachu!" Pikachu growled, glaring at Sundae. He wasn't going to let this insult slide.

"Well then," Sundae said, twirling a Poké Ball between her fingers. "Let me show you what a real Pokémon looks like. Go, Cubone!" She tossed her Poké Ball into the air.

The sphere opened, releasing a white flash that revealed a small, brown, Ground-type Pokémon holding a bone club.

Cubone

Type: Ground

Category: Lonely Pokémon

Ability: Rock Head or Lightning Rod

Hidden Ability: Battle Armor (prevents critical hits)

Cubone stood ready, clutching its bone club with a determined gleam in its eyes. Although small, it exuded confidence, and its elite-level strength was clear.

Ash surveyed the situation. Ground-types had an advantage against Electric-types, and Cubone's immunity to Electric moves made this a tough matchup for Pikachu.

Misty and Brock, standing on the sidelines, exchanged worried looks. "This isn't good," Misty said. "Pikachu's at a major disadvantage."

"Yeah, Ground-types are immune to Electric moves. Ash should have sent out Pidgeotto instead," Brock agreed, furrowing his brows.

Despite their concerns, Ash didn't flinch. His gaze shifted to Pikachu, who met his eyes with an unwavering determination.

"It's up to you, Pikachu!" Ash declared.

"Pika-pika!" Pikachu shouted, leaping into the battlefield, landing gracefully on all fours.

Sundae smirked. "Seriously? Sending Pikachu against Cubone? Either you're overconfident or just plain foolish."

Cubone readied its club, staring Pikachu down. The sundae's confident demeanor spread to her cheering classmates, who chanted her name.

"You've already lost by choosing Pikachu," Sundae said. "Cubone, show them our strength!"

Ash's expression remained calm. "Don't underestimate us. Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"

In a flash, Pikachu launched himself forward with blinding speed, leaving afterimages behind. Cubone swung its club instinctively, but the attack missed as Pikachu dodged effortlessly.

"How did it dodge?!" Sundae exclaimed, her confidence faltering for the first time.

Before Cubone could recover, Pikachu slammed into its side, sending the Pokémon skidding across the field.

"Unbelievable!" Misty gasped, clapping her hands over her mouth.

Brock crossed his arms, a small smile forming. "That's Ash for you. Pikachu's speed and precision make up for the type disadvantage."

Even the principal and his assistant, who watched from the sidelines, seemed surprised. The assistant, Mei, glanced at the principal. "Did you expect this?"

The principal stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Not quite. It seems this young Trainer might teach our students a valuable lesson."

Back on the battlefield, Cubone struggled to its feet, shaking off the attack. "Don't let them intimidate you, Cubone!" Sundae shouted. "Use Bonemerang!"

"Bone!" Cubone cried, swinging its club in a wide arc. The weapon flew through the air like a boomerang, heading straight for Pikachu.

"Jump, Pikachu!" Ash commanded.

With perfect timing, Pikachu leaped high into the air, the Bonemerang passing harmlessly beneath him. The weapon returned to Cubone, who caught it deftly, but Pikachu was already descending at an angle.

"Quick Attack again!" Ash shouted.

Pikachu streaked toward Cubone mid-air, striking it with pinpoint accuracy. Cubone staggered backward, visibly weakened.

Sundae clenched her fists. "How is this possible?! Cubone, get up and use Bone Club!"

Cubone swung its weapon with all its might, but Pikachu darted to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack.

"Pikachu, end this! Iron Tail!"

Pikachu's tail glowed with a metallic sheen as he charged at Cubone. With a powerful swing, Pikachu struck Cubone squarely, sending it crashing to the ground.

Cubone groaned and struggled to rise, but it collapsed a moment later, unconscious.

The battlefield fell silent.

"Cubone is unable to battle. Pikachu is the winner!" the referee announced.

Sundae stared in disbelief as Pikachu trotted back to Ash, looking proud but unbothered.

Misty cheered loudly, throwing her arms in the air. "That's what I'm talking about! Go, Ash and Pikachu!"

Brock chuckled. "I guess being underestimated worked in Ash's favor this time."

The students watching the battle murmured among themselves, shocked at the outcome. They had never seen Sundae lose before.

Sundae clenched her fists, her face red with embarrassment. "You… you were just lucky!" she stammered.

Ash gave her a calm smile. "Luck? Maybe. But type advantages and disadvantages aren't everything. A strong bond and strategy matter more."

Pikachu stood beside Ash, his head held high. He turned to Sundae and gave her a cheeky "Pika-pika!" before hopping onto Ash's shoulder.

The principal, still observing, turned to Mei with a satisfied smile. "I think this is the hurricane our school needed."

Mei nodded. "It's a humbling experience, but one they'll learn from."

Ash and his friends left the battlefield victorious, ready for their next adventure. For Sundae and her classmates, it was a day they would never forget—a lesson in humility and the true spirit of Pokémon battles.
