"Oh wow, well hello there rare stroke of luck of mine. All I did was enter a Dungeon and yet I gained so much... I mean sure it doesn't look like anything that can happen again but still."
I shifted my attention away from the message as it disappeared then directed it to the spectacle that laid before me. It was my very first time seeing the inside of a Dungeon, I wondered if one could really get used to seeing something like this or if the hype was something that'd always exist regardless of how many times you do it.
"It really is a whole other world, even the air feels entirely different from Earth..."
I then quickly reorganized myself from looking like a little naive boy in awe and wonder. What laid before me was a barren wasteland, a desert of sorts. No monsters in sight...for now. If I had to break down what I needed to do into three things, it would be; mine, mine and mine. For that to happen, though, I had to first find a mine, so I activated my Treasure Hunt Skill. It was in full effect, a full on, straight up three hundred kilometre scouting range. It manifested in the form of a sphere-like radar with its glowing green waves permeating along the surface and through the atmosphere. Everything the waves touched, I could vividly see with my eyes as they emitted a feint glow of green light.
"Hold up, doesn't this mean I've got 360 degree vision? Isn't the Treasure Hunt Skill supposed to just be able to find mines and nothing else?..."
It really didn't make any sense to me, so I checked the contents of my Treasure Hunt Skill to investigate.
[Showing the contents of the D-Rank Skill Treasure Hunt.]
• Treasure Hunt D-Rank: Can expertly locate mines with products and minerals for crafting within a 300 kilometre radius. Tip: Mines found in dungeons have the best products.
"It says that it has the ability to locate mines but it doesn't say that it isn't conscious of anything else. I see now, so this is just an automatic bonus of the Skill, awesome!!! This means that as long as the Skill is active, no D-Rank Warrior and below will be able to sneak up on me! Even if their Class is say, that of a Thief, Ninja or Assassin etc...pretty much anything with those little sneaky annoying covert-type Skills"
I really don't like surprises of any kind so the thought of someone being able to sneak up on me and launch a surprise attack made my skin crawl. That self-induced paranoia made me appreciate my Treasure Hunt Skill all the more. Shit I basically fell in love with it right then and there even.
"Now, I'm thinking I should keep this magnificent Skill active, even after I find a mine. Wouldn't wanna be ambushed by some unknown monster, no siree, I would not."
I kept walking around the desert, my trusty Skill in full gear, climbing a few big rocks every now and then to widen my scope of view. I was still yet to find a mine or even another freaking lifeform...outside of the nearly countless various incects beneath the surface of course.
"Damn it's hot. Well I guess that's what you'll get with two suns, weird....hah, rats, don't tell me I'm lost in a deserted Dungeon! That'd really suck for a protagonist's first adventure...hm? Pause."
I finally found something, about 170 kilometres away, there were multiple lifeforms other than those damned bugs I felt like I've known for eternity.
"Man, about damn time. Wait what the...?"
What awaited me there were...
"Dogs? No, wait, wild dogs. Nah, they look more like hyenas, five times bigger than normal though, not to mention their spines are sticking out of their skin from the back of their necks all the way down to the end of their tails. So yeah, probably not your typical average hyenas."
I patted myself on the back in admiration of my genius for being able to figure out that those were definitely not normal hyenas.
"Dang, I'm good"
There were other noteworthy things aside from the pack of definitely-not-normal-hyenas. For instance, the big...un-alive creature that strikingly resembled a buffalo, only larger, which laid there acting as the hyenas' lunch as they were eating it like there was no tomorrow. Then secondly, the numerous caves surrounding the area the hyenas were located. I decided to take a closer look and noticed the caves may have lead to some sort of underground area. Each of the caves had underground pathways that eventually merge with one another and become one pathway that then leads to a large area underground. I wondered what it could've been...
"Probably a mine. Nah, scratch that it's definitely a mine."
Okay maybe 'wonder' was a bit of a strong word, it was fairly to easy figure out. Anyway, I decided to hurry up and get close to the caves. With my speed, 170 kilometres is way of an easy distance to cover within a shot amount of time. Normal human peak speed (along with the other Stats) could be measured around 50 to 70, average Warrior speed (along with the other Stats) was 700+.
"At least in this aspect, I'm a little above average. All that strenuous physical training paid off in its own ''charming'' way"
Using the surrounding large rocks around as coverage to hide from the hyenas, I made my way towards the caves.
[Report. Subject has entered the Werehyenas' territory. Subject will now recieve an Immediate Quest...]
"Werehyenas, huh? So that's what they're called. Wait what's this about an Immediate Quest!?..."
[Immediate Quest contents]
Immediate Quest: Subject must exterminate the Werehyenas surrounding the caves within the given time duration.

Upon Success: Subject will receive entry into the caves with no disturbance.
Upon Failure: Subject will die.
Rewards will be calculated after the Quest is completed based the Subject's efficiency.
"Well fuck..."
A chill ran down my spine as I was standing behind a large rock spying on the Werehyenas through the Treasure Hunt Skill, believing my self to be expertly hidden. By the time I noticed that the Werehyenas were starting to act strange, it was too late.
"Shit they've spotted me. Must've picked up on my scent."
With speed rivaling that of an average Warrior, they cornered me. There were 28 of them in total, slowly closing in on me, they didn't bark or growl. Rather they were more like laughing, guess that's hyenas for you.
"Damn it all to hell" I cursed.
"Can I really take 'em on alone, these are E-Rank monsters afterall. That's an entire Rank above me. I don't think they're stronger of faster than me individually but they've got the advantage numbers wise."
Almost immediately as I said that, one jumped straight to me, its razor sharp claws pointed directly at me, almost as if they had a mind of their own, they knew their target. I couldn't move. I wanted to but my body wasn't about to listen to me. I was scared. Fool, scratch that, I was petrified, I let my instincts carry me, my eyes closed against my will. The Treasure Hunt Skill then deactivated. A sharp sound then pierced my ears, followed by one that imitated a splash of what I'd say was maybe water.
"What's going on?"
I thought to myself.
"I thought I had already resigned myself to my fate so how is it that I still feel very much alive right now?"
Open your eyes stupid.
Felt like my subconscious was telling me that. Makes sense. Can't exactly figure out what's going on with my eyes closed now can I?
Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.
"Okay, you can stop now, jeez"
So I opened my eyes, after reorganizing my psychological stability of course. What I saw next defied my understanding of logic. I really didn't like surprises but what I saw before me had the potential to make me reconsider that perspective.
"A perfectly symmetrical slice..."
The Werehyena that had attacked earlier, half of its body, head to toe...or tail, was laying on my right side, the other half on my left. There was no doubt about it, it was dead, so dead, super dead. Some of its blood dripping down my forehead and the rest splashed on the ground, in both my hands shone an illuminating white light as if in response to my Mana. The light came from a blade, a strong and sturdy blade. It was none other than the great iron blade. First Dawn.
"Holy crud, I had totally forgotten about this. When did I unsheath it though?" I wondered.
"This must be the Weapon Fanatic's Sub-Skill Bladework at play. So I activated it without even thinking, with instinct alone!? Is that even possible? I thought I had accepted my fate but subconsciously, I must've really not wanted to die. No, it was more than that, I couldn't accept it, I didn't want to accept it. Not a death like that. This is me fighting back, fighting back against the cruelty of this world, against fate itself!"
I removed my left hand from First Dawn, holding it with just my right, I then clenched my right fist tightening my grip on my trusty blade. After that I reactivated my Treasure Hunt Skill. I drew my attention to the other Werehyenas as I pointed the blade towards them.
"I can do this!" I declared.
"One down, twenty-seven more to g-hm?"
I couldn't help but notice that the Werehyenas were starting to act strange. They weren't laughing anymore. They just stood there, completely silent while attentively staring at me, almost as if they were wary of me. No, 'wary' was putting it lightly, 'scared' was more like it.
"So they're conscious of what's happening. Still though, last I checked, even normal hyenas were some of the most persistent animals out there, with these guys, it's like an exponential mutation, so what's up with this reaction just 'cause I managed to kill one of them. Was this one some sort of alpha? Is that why it attacked first? Now that I mention it, it's slightly bigger than the others, about fifty percent bigger to be exact, if that's the case then it all makes sense now. To these guys I must look like a newly awakened beast with an indomitable will and spirit who just instilled his resolve, an alpha in my own right. Well, then if they're not fighting back, that makes things easier for me."
I closed my eyes, inhaled and exhaled a few times then opened my eyes again, the purpose; to achieve complete calmness and unity with oneself. My self-awareness spiked up like crazy. All that, piled with the shit ton amount of info gained from the 360 degree vision of my Treasure Hunt Skill could probably melt someone's brain but due to my relatively high Intelligence Stat, it only further heightened my senses. Making my brain the source, I then circulated my Mana throughout my entire body. The manifestation of one's subconscious mind. This thus created a connection between my instincts and self-realisation making them one. My body instantly felt lighter, while emitting a faint white light. Everything was so clear. I just suddenly knew what I had to do and how to do it, it all just naturally came to me, including the words I whispered next...
"Sunset Slash"
For that brief moment, nature itself followed my every whim. A single horizontal slash. Total decapitation. All the Werehyenas' heads fell off their bodies, it didn't matter where they were. However, this wasn't because the effect of the slash was one that allowed it to adapt its trajectory to match the surroundings. Rather, the slash was an attack that forced the surroundings to adapt to its rules. I sheathed back my blade afterwords as I was ready to start exploring the caves.

"Three of four of my Stats outside of Mana Capacity are close to reaching the thousand realm, once that happens, I'll have Stats on the level of a D-Rank Warrior. When you consider all of that, my overall specs are on the unbalanced side, but I guess all that training for three whole years had to count for something. And with my Bladework Sub-Skill on the level it is in now, I reckon I should be able to go toe to toe with at least a C-Rank and at most a B-Rank Warrior. I shouldn't get ahead of myself though but still..."
[Final rewards are being allocated. Subject has received 28 E-Rank monster cores, otherwise known as Mana Crystals plus entry into the Werehyena Caves with no disturbance.]
"Oh, lookie here. Almost forgot about these."
Monster cores, as the name suggests, are cores that exist inside monsters. They're formed when the Natural Mana in the air fuses with the Source Mana of the monsters and the fused Mana's density increases from within the monster's body thus turning solid. They appear every time a monster dies. If they aren't captured and contained within half an hour after appearing, they'll dissipate and the Mana they emit will then fuse with nature, becoming part of the Natural Mana.
Monster cores, or Mana Crystals are used by Warriors for the purpose of increasing their Mana Capacity. I didn't know how it worked but I wasn't about to let these treasures go to waste like that so I put them all in my Item Space.
"Man, if I didn't have this Skill, I don't know what I would've done with this many Mana Crystals in hand. I wonder if other Warriors beside me have anything similar. I remember watching Warriors go in and out of Dungeons on TV when I was still young and most always carried large backpacks and sacks so I doubt that that many Warriors have a Skill similar to Item Space if at all any."
Engrossed in the feeling of believing that I'm special, I was ready to start venturing through the caves. As I was about to do just that however, the Werehyenas' dead bodies infront of me caught fire and burned to ashes.
"What the heck!? Is that what happens when monsters die and lose their cores!? Damn, that literally came out of nowhere. Hold up, then what about...?"
I drew my attention towards the place where the buffalo like monster that was being eaten by the Werehyenas before was. There was nothing.
"Must've also burned up while I was fighting the Werehyenas, explains why they were munching on it so intensely, the meal isn't one that lasts long"
Doing my best to put the shock I just experienced behind me, I made my way through one of the caves, it became darker and darker as I ventured deeper and deeper into the cave. I wouldn't be able to see at all if I didn't have my Treasure Hunt Skill which had advanced to a new Rank. The waves it emitted and the glow in my eyes in response to it were now blue in colour in correspondence to its new Rank. With its range increased two-fold, I had already located the mine that laid underground so I headed straight to it, making my way through a tunnel like path. I arrived and there it was, the mine. The darkness earlier was no more, in the wide spacious area before me shone an almost silver-like light that filled the entire surrounding. The light came from the rich minerals slightly poking out from the walls and ground, I wondered what type of minerals they were specifically so I used my Treasure Hunt Skill to examine them.
"Cold Iron, it's Cold Iron. No freaking way."
I couldn't believe it. While not especially rare, Cold Iron was a very treasured mineral, named so due to its absurdly high melting point calculated to be 50 times that of normal iron. It also has very high Mana conductivity. I wanted to immediately go and start mining that precious mineral but there was still something other than the iron in the mine, something that was preventing me from acting rash. As I stood at the edge of the tunnel that led to the mine looking down from above, I saw them. More Werehyenas. There was no alpha though, so I concluded that the first one I had killed must've been the alpha of all of them here. Some were sleeping, the rest walking and lounging around. There were more here than the ones I fought earlier. A little over thrice as much but I had no intention of hiding myself this time so I unsheathed my blade, jumped down then took a battle stance. I then deactivated my Treasure Hunt Skill since I doubted I needed it in this situation.
"Hey there you mutts."
All those that were sleeping and lounging around immediately got up as they noticed me after I said that. A message then popped up as they surrounded me slowly.
[Report. Subject has entered the Cold Iron Mine: The Werehyenas' den. Subject will now recieve an Immediate Quest...]
[Immediate Quest contents]
Immediate Quest: Subject must exterminate the Werehyenas in the mine within the given time duration.
Duration: 1hour
Upon Success: Subject will be able to mine the Cold Iron in the mine with no disturbance.
Upon Failure: Subject will die.
Rewards will be calculated after the Quest is completed based the Subject's efficiency.
"Heheh, the duration is the same, it's as if the System doesn't view this Quest any harder than the previous one. Well whatever, I don't think this'll be hard either. And if I can't cut it, I'll just run, simple."
A sinister smirk formed across my face. I wondered if I should use Sunset Slash but then immediately abandoned that thought. It's a powerful attack, no doubt but if I rely on it too much, my growth might be poorly affected. The Werehyenas were still slowly closing in on me but I wasn't about to let them have their way. The first move was mine. I jumped upward, creating about a ten metre distance between me and the ground. As gravity decided to take its course, I increased my falling momentum to launch a downward slash, it wasn't a Special Attack, but the sheer power and force of it went beyond my expectations, enough to change the landscape of the place I had landed on. It took the lives of three Werehyenas.
"Oh? Would you look at that."
The realisation that I was no longer a prey but the predator made my smirk even more sinister. Seriously, I'd wager I look like a total demon right now.
"I bet I look like a total demon right now."
See?
Anyway, I shifted my focus to the other Werehyenas. They started to look wary but it wasn't enough that they'd back down, they all started attacking immediately. As some jumped to attack me from above, the others would go for my lower body. All with their teeth and claws out for the world to see.
I expertly cut down the ones that kept attacking my upper body, some slashed in half, some decapitated. As for the ones coming from below, I sent them flying with kicks, each stronger than the last. No blood was being spilt on my body this time, I made sure to avoid it as I was slashing away. However, I didn't like the idea of being surrounded like this, even though I was killing them off one by one, it still looked like I was some sort of prey. That hurt my pride. So I ran away and out of the circle created by them to corner me, as I did that, they all saw fit to follow behind and chase me. I increased my speed exponentially, allowing me to be able to run across the walls of the underground mine horizontally. Of course the Werehyenas couldn't do what I was doing so they just kept running after me from the ground. I looked back while running and took down one of them with a slash of First Dawn. I then clenched my entire body, bent my knees a bit and shot myself sideways from the side of the walls then did a side flip to land safely on the ground. What was the purpose of this exaggerated acrobatic display, you ask? To create some distance between me and the Werehyenas. I had managed to kill around 80% of them so far and the ones that were left were now about 30 metres infront of me. I readied my blade, my trusty First Dawn, its light as elegant as always. It had already cut down so many Werehyenas but no blood was left on it. Tightening my grip on it, I ran full speed towards the Werehyenas, they also did the same. A full on face off. It was on. Some Werehyenas were closer than others, it must've been those that must've gotten a headstart. Five jumped at me in unison, but a single horizontal slash brought their downfall.
"Who's next!?" I shouted.
"Yeah, that's right, come at me bros! I'll show y'all what's what!" I declared.
Two more ran around me from each side to come back and attack me from behind while one jumped at me for what seemed like a tackle aimed for my mid-section. I quickly jumped upward then lightly placed my right foot on the forehead of the Werehyena infront. Basically, I used the damn mutt as a stepping stone. I then increased the momentum on the step to kick the Werehyena away, but not just anywhere. I made sure to kick it straight in the direction of one of the two that tried attacking my back. After the two clashed with one another, I used the confusion to my advantage, as I landed on the ground, I turned back then ran towards them to launch a slash that took down both of them at the same time, sparring not a single second to waste, I ran towards the other one of the two and launched a vertical strike, splitting its head in two. There were still some left though, I checked to see how many.
"Oh, wow, there's still so many of you left. I'm way slower than I thought I'd be. Let's see, one, two, three....eleven. Still eleven more to go, huh? Well at least now it's way less than the ones I fought outside the caves."
The Werehyenas that were left now looked way more scared than the ones I had fought outside the caves though. That was understandable, what I'd just done now was indeed more intense than killing an alpha.
"Well, whatever..."
I decided to close the distance between me and them, they weren't moving before but now they started to move. It wasn't to fight back though. No, they were running.
"Heheh, cute"
I wasn't about to let them go that easy. They scattered across to mess with me.
"Right, see if you were any faster, that probably would've worked"
I chased after them then killed them all off one by one, it was then that I truly felt like I had fully taken on the role of the predator.

"Well damn..."
I had no idea how to react to it. The A-Rank realm was to die for among Warriors. A-Rank Skills and above are the only Skills that are capable of having a significant temporary effect on a Warrior's Stats. Not to mention the effect doesn't mess around too.
"As long as it's active, won't I be able to take on an A-Rank Warrior? Or at least not lag behind. Still though, outside of my Bladework Sub-Skill, I didn't really gain that much, I guess, the stronger you are, the harder it gets."
I then sheathed in my blade afterwards.
"No matter, this is still steady progress." Yeah, steady progress. The progress of the weak.
"Now that that's out of the way, time to do what I came here for"
There were hundreds of thousands of kilograms of Cold Iron around me, in their purest state, ready to be plundered. I took out the Great Pickaxe and Great Shovel from the Item Space then started mining the Cold Iron.
Both objects were fairly strong. Actually they were incredibly strong, I really could use them in a fight if I wanted to. Using the Great Pickaxe I masterfully removed the dirt surrounding and holding captive the chunks of Cold Iron. I then finished off the mining process with the Great Shovel by digging the chunks out from the walls and ground. The chunks weren't equivalent to one another in both size and weight, the smallest weighed at least 300+ kilograms and the largest about 1000+ at most.
With my Strength Stat were it was, it was fairly easy to lift them. Each time I took out a chunk, I then placed it in the Item Space. I was satisfied after I collected about ten thousand kilograms worth of Cold Iron. There was still more left, a lot more actually, way more than I had but like I said, I was satisfied with what I had.

Wait, but wouldn't the 'average' F-Rank be me since I'm the only F-Rank? Argh, whatever! Let me just not confuse myself and keep going!..."

...
"Honestly, just what in the hell are you doing here?"
"Hey there lil bro. What's this? Don't tell me you went into a Dungeon to get yourself some nice treasures without informing your big brother. That's not very nice now, is it? Heheh."
~Sigh~
See now, this is why I don't like surprises.
