Chapter 479 - 486: Discovering Anomalies
Chapter 479: Chapter 486: Discovering Anomalies
“My Kung Fu is not as good as Qi Shen’s. Why not let Qi Shen protect the Young Master and Miss, while I protect Madam?” Qi Luo thought and then spoke. She knew well that following Madam was more dangerous, and there was a high probability of losing her life. Nevertheless, she was still willing to make this choice. Should she truly lose her life, her wish, the Master would help her fulfill it, right?”
Even though her original purpose for staying by the Master’s side had been for that particular aim, over the years, Qi Luo had come to understand a lot by being by Madam’s side. That matter was no longer her sole purpose for living. In the current circumstances, all she wanted to do was to ensure the safety of both Madam and the children.
“No need, just the two of them will stay by my side. All of you should protect the children and ensure their safety,” Su Wenyue said with a shake of her head, without a hint of hesitation.
“But Madam…” Qi Shen wanted to say something else but was interrupted by Su Wenyue.
“No more words needed; I have already decided. If you truly are loyal to me, then carry out my orders,” Su Wenyue spoke with undeniable finality. As for danger, she had put life and death out of her mind the moment she made this decision.
Su Wenyue understood that her chances of escape were slim and if she did manage to get away, those people would surely target her Father and Mother and the three children again. If she were safe, Father, Mother, and the children would be in danger. Instead of slightly increasing her own chances of escape, it was better to provide a greater guarantee for the children’s safety.
“Yes, your Subordinate, your servant girl, obeys Madam’s command.”
Both Qi Shen and Qi Luo could see that Su Wenyue’s mind was made up and that no amount of persuasion from them would change it, so they had to act according to Su Wenyue’s wishes.
Qi Shen, in fact, admired Su Wenyue’s decision. Though he hadn’t seen anything wrong with Madam risking Mr. and Mrs. Su for the sake of the children because he was Han Yu’s subordinate and naturally wanted Su Wenyue and the children to be unharmed, he couldn’t help but genuinely respect her when she made this choice, even though he was worried.
Qi Shen himself was a man of Jianghu, and what Jianghu People value is the two characters of loyalty and righteousness. Although Qi Shen now served as Han Yu’s secret guard, his essential nature hadn’t changed.
“Take good care of the children and join up with my Father and Mother,” said Su Wenyue as she got ready to leave in the opposite direction to Su Wenyue and Qi Shen, accompanied by two other female guards that Han Yu had assigned to her. Each of the guards carried a basket on their back as if carrying children, and before leaving, Su Wenyue took one last glance at the young ones.
“Madam, take care and be safe at all costs. Preserving your life is of utmost importance. Even if you really fall into those people’s hands, the Master will definitely find a way to rescue you. I will care for the Young Master and Miss as Madam instructed, even at the risk of my life, I won’t let any danger come to them,” Qi Shen earnestly said.
Su Wenyue felt genuinely comforted. She could sense the deep respect and obedience radiating from within Qi Shen, and his words were exactly what she wanted to hear at that moment.
“Madam, please take care. I will look after the Young Master and Miss and wait for the moment we reunite with Madam,” Qi Luo said through tears.
Su Wenyue nodded and then, decisively accompanied by the two female guards, turned and left without any further hesitation.
Qi Shen respectfully saluted Su Wenyue, a look of admiration on his face for the Mistress he had somewhat underestimated before. Initially, they had thought little of a Merchant’s Daughter, delicate and ignorant of the world, her only merit being that she had birthed three children for the Master and was a little prettier than most, with no other redeeming qualities, often causing distraction for the Master.
Previously, Su Wenyue’s success with her store had seemed trivial to these former heirs of noble families; it was seen as just a bit of cleverness.
Now it seemed that there must be good reason for the Master to hold his wife in high esteem. Not only had Madam raised their three children well, but her performance in this crisis was truly impressive. It’s during dangerous times that one’s true nature and courage stand out. Faced with such a situation, far from being fearful, a woman of propriety like Madam did not panic. Instead, she came up with a plan of action and executed it decisively, ready to risk her life to ensure the safety of those dear to her, something beyond the capability of ordinary people, let alone a woman.
“We should also make haste and leave. There isn’t much time,” said Qi Luo, watching Su Wenyue leave and speaking to Qi Shen. It wasn’t the time for delays.
Qi Shen nodded, clearly understanding the urgency. They couldn’t let Madam’s thoughtful arrangement be in vain. Thus, taking the children, the group silently vanished into the woods, taking a detour toward where Mr. and Mrs. Su and the Feng family were located.
Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Su, along with their entourage, were hastening along at a pace like fleeing for their lives, hurrying toward the Feng family’s domain. They had been progressing well but had to stop due to a minor incident on the road.
“What’s happened? Why have we stopped?” Master Su asked displeased. At this time, every bit closer to the Feng family’s territory meant a greater chance of survival. Although he and his wife were prepared to risk their lives, who would choose death if there was a chance to live? Yet, an issue had arisen at such a critical moment, angering and agitating Master Su. He also feared those lurking in the shadows might detect the abnormality.
“It’s terrible, just terrible, Madam and the Young Master are missing!”
It was a case of getting exactly what one fears. Mr. and Mrs. Su were worried that their pursuers might detect something was amiss and turn back to hunt down their daughter and grandsons. And then this situation arose. One Maid who had been following Su Wenyue suddenly screamed in panic, her voice carrying fear and alarm as if she had discovered something terrible, running towards Mr. and Mrs. Su while speaking.
Mr. and Mrs. Su were infuriated; they naturally wouldn’t believe that the Maid was genuinely panicked over the sudden disappearance of her Mistress. When their daughter left, they had already instructed everyone, and this Maid’s sudden reaction was clearly meant to signal those behind them, revealing the news of the daughter and grandsons’ escape.
“Shut your mouth!” Master Su said with a face ashen with anger, immediately ordering someone to gag the Maid; regretfully, it was already too late. A few of those following Master Su were martial arts experts with exceptional hearing and caught the Maid’s outcry instantly. They promptly reported to their leader.
“What! You say that Madam Han and her children aren’t in the horse carriage, are you sure?” The leader, upon hearing this message, was shocked, his complexion changing. Their mission was to capture Su Wenyue and her children, and now to hear that they had escaped was alarming. Their superiors had given them a strict order; if they failed their mission, all of them would suffer gravely.
