Chapter 7: Visit from a Doctor
Eogan slowly opened his eyes, the unfamiliar painted white ceiling coming into focus. He groaned softly as he sat upright in the small bed, his gaze drifting across the room. Maeve slept beside him, slumped in a rickety wooden chair.
A soft voice broke the stillness. "Master, I'm glad you're awake. Are you feeling alright?"
Eogan nodded slowly and whispered, "I remember you from my past life."
Leanan, still invisible, hugged his wrist lightly. "I'm glad you've remembered."
Eogan shook his head. "There are still gaps in my memory, but I know who I was... and what I need to do moving forward."
Maeve shifted in her chair, groaning as she woke. When she noticed Eogan staring at her with a peculiar intensity, she jumped up, almost losing her balance. "Young master, you're awake! How do you feel? Aine and I found you unconscious near the forest and couldn't wake you. My mother called for a doctor, and I sent word to your father."
Eogan grumbled, speaking only loud enough for Leanan to hear, "Why bother telling him? He doesn't care about me."
"Huh? What was that?" Maeve asked, leaning in closer.
Eogan quickly changed the subject. "Where are we?"
"This is my parents' house in Fionnach. It's on the northern edge of the flower field." Maeve smiled. "I'm glad my mother was home when I brought you here."
Before they could continue, a knock came at the door. "Maeve, dear. The doctor has arrived."
An elderly, plump woman with strawberry-blond hair and sky-blue eyes waddled into the room, followed by a tall man in a pastel green suit. His serious expression seemed uncomfortable in such whimsical attire.
"Hello, young lord," the man greeted, setting a large bag at the foot of the bed. "I'm Doctor Aedan Leigheas. I'm glad you regained consciousness before I arrived. Please stay calm while I conduct your examination." He pushed his spectacles up with the knuckle of his left ring finger and began rummaging through his bag, pulling out strange tools Eogan had never seen before.
"What are those for?" Eogan asked, growing concerned. "Why so many?"
The doctor didn't respond. He began poking and prodding Eogan, who resisted as much as he could. After a moment, Doctor Leigheas frowned. "This boy's mana meridians are already fully expanded. It's as if his soul has already reached maturity."
Maeve's eyes widened. "Doctor, that's impossible! He's only ten. A person's soul doesn't mature until they're twenty-one."
The doctor lowered his gaze, his eyes hidden behind curly red bangs as he thought over the findings. "I'm not sure what this means, but I'll need more investigation time. This may explain why he fainted."
Eogan felt a tug on his earlobe and leaned toward it, hearing Leanan's soft whisper in his ear. "Master, it's because you reincarnated and regained memories from your past life. That's why your meridians are fully developed."
Eogan covered his mouth to whisper back, "I thought so. But I'll handle this. Don't worry.
