Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Why Wear a Mask?
Shao He was slightly taken aback and had thought he would consider for a while, but did not expect him to agree so directly.
"Then you go to the back hall first and wait for me. Once I finish up here, I'll start treating you," Shao He glanced at the people still lining up behind, as she could not just leave these patients unattended.
"Alright."
The attendant pushed him to the back hall, a bit worried, and said, "My lord, it's better not to take risks. What if her medical skills are really not refined, and she fails to cure your leg ailment, what then if the treatment worsens?"
Pei Huaian looked at his immovable legs and whispered softly, "Trying is always better than waiting to be disabled; what if she can cure it."
As time slowly passed, Shao He finally finished her work. She took out the acupuncture box from her space and began treating Pei Huaian.
Shao He lifted his robe and inserted silver needles about two inches below his knees, gently twirling them a few times, then switching to the other side...
Pei Huaian lowered his gaze, watching her serious demeanor, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Shao He looked up, meeting his cold gaze, and couldn't help but ask, "You can tell from Young Master's facial features that you're not ugly; why always wear a mask?"
"My face was once burned, it's frightening, I dare not show my true face," Pei Huaian brushed it off with an excuse.
Shao He did not inquire further, for it was another's private matter.
About half a quarter of an hour later, Shao He pulled out the silver needles, and a flow of black blood followed.
Pei Huaian glanced at Shao He calmly and asked in a steady tone, "What is your name?"
"Shao He."
Pei Huaian noticed the strand of hair falling on her cheek, lifted his hand to tuck it behind her ear, but then thought better of the gesture and quietly lowered his hand again.
Shao He retracted her silver needles using her thought, stood up, and said, "Today's treatment will stop here. Return in seven days."
"Alright."
With a look from Pei Huaian, the guard behind him brought out a bag of silver and handed it over.
"This is my consultation fee, please accept it, Miss," he said.
Shao He weighed the silver in her hand, her lips curling into a smile as she assessed the two before her.
Although they were dressed in humble attire, their generosity was not, indicating wealth or nobility.
"All right, then I'll accept without any scruples," Shao He had her suspicions about their identities, but she always operated for money and would not pry further.
Once Shao He had moved away, the attendant who had been standing by cautiously asked, "My lord, do you really trust this female doctor?"
Pei Huaian looked coldly at him, frightening the attendant who immediately knelt and admitted his mistake.
Pei Huaian shifted his gaze, speaking indifferently, "It doesn't matter whether she can cure my leg ailment."
"My lord..."
"Enough!" Pei Huaian cut him off, "Do not repeat this mistake next time!"
"Yes, yes, I understand my mistake, I won't dare again," the attendant wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"My lord, you..."
"It's fine!" Pei Huaian waved his hand and turned to walk back.
"My lord is too lenient with Doctor Shao," the attendant followed behind muttering inadvertently.
The lord's reaction just now clearly showed he was very interested in her, how could he be so careless!
Pei Huaian turned his head, looking at him coldly, "Are you questioning my decision?"
"Dare not!" the attendant quickly bowed his head, "I am only concerned about my lord's health, given those quacks..."
"Get out!"
"Yes, yes, I will take my leave," the attendant replied quickly.
The attendant hastened his pace to leave, fearing Pei Huaian might suddenly change his mind, but just as he reached the doorway, he suddenly realized, "Wait, the lord is still inside!"
