Reborn as Lucifer Morningstar in Lucifer TV/DC comics

Chapter 49: The Burning Bush

"What is it father? You have not been in the greatest mood since we have restarted your journey." Mazikeen remarked as she and Lucifer were walking through the desert, Lucifer wearing a white robe, Mazikeen a black one alongside a black head covering scarf.

Lucifer was silent for a moment, "I... I owe my Father a favor Mazikeen. And he has called me to collect it." Was all Lucifer stated as he continued to walk, for the rest of the journey not answering any of Mazikeen's other questions.

Mazikeen herself did not understand. When did her Grandfather aid her father in any way that he would owe him?

As they neared a mountain, Lucifer suddenly stopped, "Mazikeen stay here, past this way, is dangerous for you. He is only expecting me."

Before Mazikeen could even give a retort Lucifer spread his wings and took flight towards that mountain, and as he started to descend one could see quite the peculiar sight, a man prostrating before a burning bush whose fire seemed to only burn it and not spread outward.

"Raise your head Moses," A Voice from the fire addressed the man as Lucifer gently landed.

"This is my son, Samael, my Lightbringer, he will be your aid against Pharoah," Yahweh stated, Lucifer hearing His Words frowned, while Moses himself flinched at hearing the name of the rebel archangel.

"Is that why you have called upon me Father? Is that the price I owe for your aid that day? To protect one of your prophets? Was Gabriel too busy? I recall this was his glorious task," Lucifer stated, finishing with a mocking tone.

"Do you refuse Samael?" was all God questioned.

Lucifer became silent. On one hand he did not wish to accept, but on the other this was a great opportunity to no longer owe his Father anything.

But he needed confirmation before he accepted anything.

"Do I understand correctly that this is payment for your aid last time? To aid Moses, prophet of the Israelites in his quest to free his people from the clutches of Pharoah?"

"No, it is but an aspect. Until my final prophet I expect you to aid whom I desire among the prophets and messengers in fulfilling your purpose of punishing all whom stand against Me. That is who I made you to be Samael, my Destroyer." Yahweh explained.

"It seems you really can't take the hint can you. I have forsaken that name. I am no longer your Venom." Lucifer hissed.

Yet all three remained silent, for Lucifer had yet to outright deny or accept.

Lucifer knew he needed to no longer owe his Father anything. That it needed to be as soon as possible for his Father knows, what else He could demand of him in the future.

Lucifer knew this was in fact a form of counter against him. A counter against his own stories, for this painted him as still under His Father's thumb, but as much as he wished to, he could not easily outright refuse for he owed Him.

Lucifer couldn't negotiate either, for the amount he owed his Father depended on how much he himself valued his Father's aid, and there wasn't much he valued more than being stopped from becoming Him, which is what His fate would have been as he was being swallowed in His memories.

Lucifer clicked his tongue in annoyance and defeat, "Before I accept I wish to add a condition."

"Speak," Yahweh commanded.

"I do things my way. You have given me authority over those who have strayed from your path and I will do with them as I wish," Lucifer stated.

"No," Yahweh refused, for a moment shocking Lucifer, for he expected Him to agree, "You are but to be an aid to the prophets and messengers. They are the ones who will act as judge. Your only function will be to make reality what they desire, as you did for Me when you fashioned Creation."

"You gave me authority over the strayers! How does this make sense?!" Lucifer questioned, furious at the prospect of acting once more as a tool for his Father.

"Your authority extends to the amount they have strayed from it in its permanence. Moses is not sent as a messenger of destruction to Pharoah, but as mercy. Pharoah and his people have not truly strayed completely for no clear messenger has been sent to them." Yahweh explained in retort.

"But I still have a right of authority over them! You yourself have bestowed this upon me!" Lucifer countered. He was starting to get a bit desperate, though he hid it well for only God could see it.

"And I have commanded you to be Moses's aid. You therefore will do as he desires when it comes to Pharoah and his people. Your authority over them you will use in your aid.

That was the price for the aid you made a favor. If you truly do not wish to do this then simply tell me you do not see it as a favor but as a gift from Me. I Myself never intended for my aid to be a shackle around your neck, it is you who made it so, My Son.

Tell me you accept it for the gift it was from your Father Who still holds Love for you, Samael, and this matter will be forgotten and you will be able to return to your own path." Yahweh stated.

Lucifer hearing his Father's words could only grit his teeth and clench his fists. He couldn't accept his Father's aid as gift, he couldn't. It would go against his pride. He would still feel as if he owes Him and he couldn't live with that being over his head for the rest of eternity.

"Very well, I accept." Lucifer bit out bitterly. Though he had his own plan. He wouldn't dance to his Father's tune. He will turn this poisoned chalice into the Holy Grail.

Hearing His Son's acceptance God's attention returned back to Moses who was listening to this conversation with wide eyes.

Moses becoming aware of this began to speak, "M- My God, I- I wi-ish fo- for aid fr-from m-my br-brother Haroon. I- I can-cannot spea-speak we-well."

Lucifer knew the story behind Moses's stutter. When he was but a baby and taken in by Rameses the first, he was quite unruly. He pulled his beard, hit him, bit him and one day a magician came and warned the king that the baby will be the destruction of him and all he has wrought. His actions being evidence.

Ramses could not believe it, for he saw Moses as but a baby, and said that he did not understand what he was doing.

The magician advised the Pharoah then to test the boy.

He put a red hot poker in front of the child, and delicious food. If the baby avoided the poker and ate from the food then he had understanding and Pharoah would sentence his death as he did all the other male baby's of the Israelites.

As Moses then went to reach out to the food Gabriel, invisible to all picked Moses's hand and put it on the poker and made him put it in his mouth, burning his tongue.

"You will have it. Your brother will be waiting for you in the city. As for your speech," God began as Moses suddenly began to glow with white light for a moment, "Your tongue has been healed."

Moses testing it out, forming words more clearly, felt tears stream down his eyes as he prostrated once more to his Maker.

"Rise my Prophet for you are yet to be bestowed all I wish to give," God commanded.

"Pick up your stick Moses and throw it onto the earth," the Almighty commanded as Moses rose.

Moses did as told, though took in a fearful breath as he stepped back for the stick had turned into a mighty serpent nearing his own size.

The serpent began to approach and circle the archangel, sensing the defiance Lucifer had for the Maker.

As it locked eyes with the Morningstar, it glared into his own cold look directed at it. Eventually the serpent decided that since the angel was for now obeying the God that it would seek no further hostilities and transformed back into the stick, which Moses picked up, warily.

Half expecting it to transform and bite him.

"This is but few of my blessings Moses, son of Amram. Now go forth, go forth and know the Lord is with you." And as God commanded, Lucifer flapped his wings, flying towards Moses picking him up, flying him to his wife and children waiting for him down below the mountain.
