Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 12: A Night of Torture

Su Ling was stunned.

Can it actually reduce the defense?

Li Xueying screamed again.

"Ah! The glass is breaking."

Sheng Hongye immediately walked to the door, tightening his grip on the baseball bat.

Su Ling couldn't help but break out in a sweat.

If the glass shattered, the zombies would undoubtedly rush in.

As powerful as these two were, they might not be a match for the zombies. If the zombies smashed through the door and swarmed in, they would be in serious trouble.

But with so many people watching, she couldn't reinforce the glass. If the cracks in the glass disappeared, it would be difficult to explain.

In her urgency, the glass made another ear-piercing cracking sound.

At the same time, Su Ling received a warning from the system.

"Glass defense reduced by twenty, please reinforce it in time, host."

Li Xueying was already trembling with fear, clutching onto Sheng Hongye tightly, her voice changing.

"Brother Hongye, what do we do?"

Sheng Hongye's face also darkened completely. At this critical moment, they could only give it their all. As long as the door didn't break, the group of zombies wouldn't be able to attack them.

Su Ling also thought of this and immediately listened attentively to see if the house's defense would decrease. As soon as it did, she would reinforce it immediately. They had to ensure one hundred percent defense to get through tonight.

At this moment, the glass defense continued to decrease, and after about ten minutes, it dropped to zero.

With a loud crash, the glass completely shattered, and the disgusting claws of the zombies reached in through the broken glass.

Wailing howls filled the entire hospital room, and Gu Kai Xuan and Geng Hao couldn't help but shiver.

Sheng Hongye had already launched the first attack, smashing a zombie's head with the baseball bat and sending it flying.

Soon, other zombies rushed forward.

Guan Shan's hand was also quick, smashing one zombie after another with the bat.

Li Xueying watched, trembling all over, and instinctively covered her ears, crouching down on the side.

Su Ling, on the other hand, remained fearless, perhaps due to experiencing an apocalypse before. Her ability to accept zombies was noticeably stronger than others, and she wasn't particularly scared. If there was any discomfort, it was just a feeling of nausea.

Just as she was looking at the door, the system issued a warning again.

"Room defense reduced by five percent, please reinforce promptly, host."

As she expected, the house's defense was also decreasing.

The system's reinforcement always increased by twenty percent, so Su Ling wasn't too worried. Her eyes remained fixed on the door as she wanted to assess Sheng Hongye's combat power.

She wasn't disappointed. The two of them consecutively smashed dozens of zombies, but Sheng Hongye showed no signs of fatigue. With a baseball bat in one hand, his veins bulged on his hand, exuding a mysterious wildness and sexiness.

Su Ling pursed her lips. If it weren't for the apocalypse, she would probably be infatuated with such a handsome guy. However, at this moment, all she could think of was whether she could survive until dawn.

Bang! Another zombie was sent flying, and Guan Shan couldn't help but speak.

"Mr. Sheng, what should we do? It seems like there's no end to these zombies. Are we going to keep fighting here?"

Sheng Hongye nodded and said in a low voice, "Outside must be even more dangerous. Let's endure tonight and decide later."

Meanwhile, the house's defense had finally dropped to eighty percent.

Su Ling quickly summoned the system and focused on reinforcing it.

One second later, Su Ling heard the prompt again: "Eighty percent soul compatibility achieved. Reinforcement successful. All attributes of the house are at one hundred percent."

Excluding Guan Shan, Li Xueying, and Geng Hao, the room now only had two people left—Sheng Hongye and Gu Kai Xuan. When she was with Gu Kai Xuan earlier, she had reinforced the glass in the ward without any other system notifications, which meant Sheng Hongye was the one she was most compatible with. She wondered if he would still accompany her to Lizhou.

In a daze, another bang and a piercing scream came from outside the door.

Sheng Hongye's face changed. "There should be survivors here."

Guan Shan frowned and asked in a low voice, "Should we go and check?"

"We can't leave for the time being. We'll leave later; this house is bound to be compromised. Let's make some noise to attract all the zombies. Maybe we can save the survivors."

Li Xueying immediately started shouting when she heard they could make some noise.

Su Ling's eardrums buzzed from the loud screams. She and Gu Kai Xuan covered their ears.

Li Xueying screamed for a while and felt slightly less fearful. She asked, "Brother Hong, should I continue?"

Sheng Hongye, who had been smashing zombies, had a little sweat on his forehead.

He replied in a brief manner, "Enough."

Su Ling and the two children breathed sighs of relief. They hadn't been killed by zombies, but their nerves were tense.

The zombie attack continued until dawn and finally subsided.

Sheng Hongye's strong physique made him tired, and Guan Shan was sweating profusely, sitting on the ground.

Su Ling was highly nervous and constantly monitored the room's defense. If not for her, the wooden door of the ward would have been smashed by zombies long ago.

Finally, she could let out a sigh of relief.

Li Xueying immediately ran to Sheng Hongye. "Brother Hong, are you tired? Let me take a look."

But she found that Sheng Hongye had fallen asleep, leaning against the bedpost.

Li Xueying felt frustrated and sat back in the corner.

As she left, Guan Shan looked at Sheng Hongye with a sinister coldness in his eyes.

Su Ling noticed this change and dared not sleep.

If something happened to Sheng Hongye, none of them would survive.

She moved closer to where Sheng Hongye lay and sat down in front of Guan Shan.

Guan Shan glanced at her and closed his eyes again.

Su Ling remained awake the whole time, feeling like time was passing incredibly slowly.

She tried to think about the various surgeries she had faced to keep her brain alert. However, after staying awake all night, she couldn't endure any longer.

Just as her vision darkened, and she was about to collapse from the bed, a big hand supported her.

"You haven't slept all night?"

Sheng Hongye's voice was low and a bit hoarse from just waking up, carrying a lazy sexiness.

Su Ling quickly sat up straight and lowered her voice, saying, "I'm not sleepy. You all fell asleep, and I was worried."

"In that case, rest for a while now. Zombies probably won't come out during the day. I'll go out and see if there are any survivors."

"No need."

Su Ling rubbed her slightly stiff face and stood up from the bedside.

She didn't dare to sleep when Guan Shan's motives were unclear.

"You go ahead. I should give Kai Xuan and Geng Hao their injections."

Sheng Hongye looked at his nephew and then at Geng Hao.

"Alright, I'll be back soon."

At that moment, Guan Shan suddenly opened his eyes.

"Mr. Sheng, I'll accompany you."
