Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 30: She Wants to Reinforce Sheng Hongye

Su Ling immediately widened her eyes and looked inquisitively at Sheng Hongye.

Sheng Hongye nodded at her and slowly released his grip. Su Ling instantly perked up her ears and indeed heard the sound of a car engine.

Sheng Hongye had already picked up the baseball bat from the table and silently approached the window.

The sound of the car came to a stop quickly, and it seemed to be very close to them.

Su Ling couldn't help feeling a bit nervous; sometimes, humans were scarier than zombies.

As the car door opened, voices from outside could be heard.

"Boss, there's no one here. Let's stay the night."

A voice as hoarse as a wild duck came from outside.

"Damn it, it's the only option. Wei Zixuan, you and Li Jianbin stay outside and keep watch."

"Brother He, what about me?"

"Of course, you're coming in with me."

A snapping sound was heard, very distinct in the dark night.

Su Ling guessed that it might have been a slap on someone's butt.

Then she heard the woman’s sultry laugh. "You're so mean, you hurt me."

Shen Laohe smiled and said, "You're complaining about a little pain? Later, I'll give you something even more painful."

Bang! The sound of the door closing indicated that the two had obviously entered the room.

Su Ling clenched her teeth, and two glimmers of hatred flashed in her clear and distinct eyes.

Indeed, they were sworn enemies; she had actually encountered Su Rou and Wei Zixuan again.

Sheng Hongye also recognized that the other person was Shen Laohe from the Zhongxing community.

They had also come here?

Could it be that Lizhou had truly fallen?

Su Ling also approached the window and spoke in a very low voice.

"Was that Shen Laohe who spoke just now?"

Sheng Hongye furrowed his brows slightly and lowered his voice, saying, "Yes, you might have hit the mark. If Lizhou didn't have any trouble, they wouldn't have come out."

"Not me, it was Liu Yu."

Su Ling said in a hushed tone, then continued softly, "I suspect that Liu Yu might actually possess some kind of precognitive ability, and it's not just him; others might have it too."

Sheng Hongye turned to Su Ling, and in the darkness, his eyes flickered with a hint of curiosity.

"Do you have it too?"

Su Ling quickly replied, "No, I don't."

She had wanted to mention the electric arc she saw in Geng Hao's hands, but she refrained; Geng Hao was a good kid, and it was better not to cause him any trouble.

"I just feel that it's not logical for zombies to suddenly attack during the daytime. Also, Kai Xuan caught long-legged fish and shrimp with wings in the puddle. If these things can mutate, why can't humans?"

Sheng Hongye asked in astonishment, "Are all the things you mentioned real?"

Su Ling shrugged and whispered, "If you don't believe me, you can ask Kai Xuan."

Sheng Hongye pondered for a moment and said, "Could it be that something is wrong with the rain?"

"I was thinking the same."

Sheng Hongye's voice became even more solemn.

"If this continues, the zombies might keep evolving, and if humans don't evolve, it will indeed be challenging to survive."

Su Ling nodded, and at that moment, a rhythmic sound suddenly came from a nearby villa, accompanied by a lascivious and flirtatious voice.

"Brother He, you're so incredible! Ah, you're incredible! Su Rou loves you to death!"

The cries of Yin Lang were particularly clear in the pitch-black night, piercing through the eardrums of the two.1Yin Lang refers to a wolf with silver fur color. In this context, it could be used metaphorically to describe someone who is fierce or aggressive like a wolf.

Even though Su Ling had never eaten pork, she had seen pigs walking; instantly, she knew what was happening.

To make matters worse, she was standing right next to Sheng Hongye, feeling utterly embarrassed.

Fortunately, the room was in darkness; otherwise, Su Ling would have definitely looked for a place to hide. Outside the window, the indecent behavior continued, becoming more and more rampant. Su Ling suddenly felt a bit sympathetic towards Wei Zixuan. He had been given the metaphorical "green hat" by Su Rou so quickly. If possible, she really wanted to interview him now and ask how he was feeling.2Green hat is a euphemism for a man whose partner (usually wife or girlfriend) is unfaithful to him. Wearing a green hat is considered a symbol of being cuckolded or cheated on.

Then, she heard a slightly heavy breathing coming from her side. Su Ling couldn't help feeling a bit nervous. Men generally would be more vulnerable to such things. She quickly turned around and sat on the sofa. Time seemed to pass like a century, and finally, the noise outside stopped.

Shortly after, Sheng Hongye also approached.

"Your sister?" he asked.

Hearing Sheng Hongye's calm voice, Su Ling breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she thought there was no need to worry; the room was full of people. Sheng Hongye, as a prominent CEO, couldn't lack such self-control, could he?

"Yes," Su Ling coughed lightly. "But it seems she changed partners."

Sheng Hongye cleared his throat. "Those who betray will eventually be betrayed."

He then glanced at his watch.

"It's almost midnight, and if the zombies haven't come yet, they won't come. You can take this opportunity to rest."

"I'm not sleepy. You should sleep."

Judging from Su Ling's voice, she seemed quite energetic. Sheng Hongye yawned.

"Alright then, I'll take a nap. If anything happens, call me immediately."

Su Ling nodded. "Sure, you can rest assured."

As soon as she finished speaking, a faint snoring sound came from the sofa.

Su Ling was speechless. She had never had such a good night's sleep. Even if she was tired, she would toss and turn for more than an hour before falling asleep. That's why she had always envied people who could fall asleep as soon as they lay their heads on the pillow.

Rolling her eyes at Sheng Hongye, Su Ling suddenly remembered that she hadn't reinforced the room yet.

She closed her eyes and tried to reinforce it three times, but every attempt failed. To save time, she reached out in the dark and touched Sheng Hongye.

Unexpectedly, Sheng Hongye suddenly turned over, and Su Ling's hand accidentally touched something that clearly wasn't pants.

Sheng Hongye's breathing suddenly became heavier, and Su Ling's face flushed with fright. She quickly withdrew her hand, and only after a long while did she extend it again, this time aiming for Sheng Hongye's head.

Carefully grabbing his hair, she closed her eyes and focused all her thoughts on reinforcement.

The system soon sent a cheerful prompt.

A character with an eighty percent soul compatibility to the host appears. Item reinforcement successful. Defense increased by thirty, impact resistance increased by thirty, endurance increased by thirty.

After several successful and unsuccessful reinforcements, Su Ling was surprised to find that the room had been reinforced to one hundred twenty percent. Even before leveling up, it was already full at one hundred percent. Now, it could even surpass its original strength. She just wondered what the requirements for leveling up were. Was it the number of uses?

Su Ling decided to try it again when she had the time. Safety was the most important thing for now.

Then, a peculiar thought arose in her mind.

I wonder if humans can be reinforced too?

So, she decided to use Sheng Hongye as an experiment.

She gently spread her fingers and grabbed a few more strands of Sheng Hongye's hair.

Then, she widened her eyes and silently called out, "Reinforce."
