Reflection of the Shattered Mirror

Chapter 2: New Destiny (2)

"Well, do you know where I am?" I ask the bird as I look around the unknown room, taking in every detail.

I take the mirror and put it into a pocket in my trousers to keep it safe and with me. 'I need to find out how to get back.' I think and scan the room once more.

"We're in a house." The voice says, and I snarl as I glance at the bird. "Really? I didn't know that." I remark sarcastically as I frown subtly and walk towards the door, open it, and walk outside.

"Woah..." I let out a small gasp of awe once I see the nature around me. 'This definitely isn't my world...'

I look around and notice a path with a sign on the right side. "Huh? What's that?" I ask and walk closer to take a closer look at the wooden sign.

"That is Elaris, the language of Elarion." The voice chimes in, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Elaris? Elarion? Is that the name of where I currently am?" "Well, yes. Elaris is the language of Elarion, which is this whole world!" The voice explains calmly yet somewhat happily.

I take a moment to process this. It's like a novel, to be honest... "I see." Is all I can say. It's unique. For a lot of reasons.

"The sign reads Lafiel, if you're wondering." The voice says, and that catches my attention. "You can read it?" I ask, looking at the bird with curiosity.

"Of course! I'm a being originating from Elarion, after all! Unlike you, who's from Earth." It says and laughs a bit at my stupid question.

"Well, since I suppose you'll be staying here for some time, I can teach you the basics." I think about the offer for a moment. 'I need to find my way back, so it'll be convenient to know Elaris, just in case...'

"Very well then. When should we start, teacher?" I ask rather eagerly as I look at the bird, whose name I still don't know. I'm still suspicious of it, but it's useful. And I can't keep calling it 'the voice' forever.

"Well, first of all, I'm Hewie! Second, we'll start by learning the alphabet. You speak well, but it seems that you can't read or write." Hewie says, and I nod as I follow her instructions.

I didn't realise that I was speaking another language... It felt natural, like it was my mother language.

With her magical abilities, to which I still can't get used to, I learn the alphabet rather quickly. "You're a natural, it seems!"

"So, you write your name like this." I listen and watch Hewie, observing how she writes my name. 'Oh? She wrote it correctly.' I ready the symbols.

People usually call me 'Alair' or 'Alear', but she wrote it how it's supposed to be. Alaire.

"I see. It's rather easy." I say and nod, surprised and a bit cautious of her now. Well, it might have been a lucky guess...

Let's not think too much about it. I'll just use her as much as I can until I find a way to get out. But it's not so bad here... But there's one thing bugging me.

'How much time has passed in my home? And how is grandma doing?'
