Chapter Eleven: The Hogwarts Letters

The morning sun spilled over the breakfast table at the Potter Estate, casting a warm glow over the cheerful gathering. Dorea Potter, as usual, presided over the meal with quiet dignity, though her sharp eyes missed nothing. Charlus was immersed in the Daily Prophet, occasionally muttering disapproval at some article or other.

James and Lily sat side by side, their laughter mingling with the chatter of their children. Lillian was trying to sneak more marmalade onto her toast, while Amelia and Evelyn debated the merits of various sweets they hoped to stockpile during the next visit to Diagon Alley.

Harry and Rose sat together, their bond as unshakable as ever. Harry had an air of calm detachment, though his eyes sparkled with excitement as he pretended to be engrossed in his tea. Rose, meanwhile, was practically vibrating with energy, her fiery red hair catching the light as she rambled on about all the things she hoped to do at Hogwarts.

Then, it happened.

A sharp tapping at the window drew everyone's attention. Two tawny owls perched there, each carrying a thick envelope bearing the unmistakable Hogwarts crest.

"Finally!" Rose exclaimed, leaping from her seat to retrieve the letters.

Lily laughed as she took the envelopes, handing one to each twin. "Well, go on, open them!"

Harry carefully broke the seal, reading the familiar script that confirmed what he had known was coming.

By mid-morning, the entire Potter family was bustling through the streets of Diagon Alley. It was a rare public appearance for the Potters, especially for Harry, the boy who lived, who had remained largely out of the public eye since that fateful Halloween night.

Sirius Black and Remus Lupin had joined them for the outing, Sirius immediately taking on the role of the doting uncle, boasting loudly about how proud he was of Harry and Rose. Remus, quieter but no less enthusiastic, kept a watchful eye on the group, his occasional quips earning laughter from the children.

The streets were crowded, and the sight of the Potters together drew immediate attention. Whispers followed them, strangers craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the famous family.

Dorea, however, was not one to let her grandchildren be treated like spectacles. With a firm word and a pointed glance, she ensured that curious onlookers kept their distance. Her commanding presence and sharp demeanor left no room for argument, and soon enough, the family was left in peace to enjoy their day.

The first stop was Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, where Rose charmed the seamstresses with her lively chatter while Harry stood still and patient during his fitting.

"You're going to outgrow this in no time," Sirius joked, ruffling Harry's already messy hair.

"Not if he keeps that posture," Dorea interjected, her tone both approving and teasing.

Next was Flourish and Blotts, where Harry and Rose eagerly selected their textbooks. While Rose gravitated toward colorful titles like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Harry quietly picked up books on magical theory and defense, his green eyes scanning each page with keen interest.

Amelia and Evelyn tried to sneak in a few joke books, only for Charlus to catch them and chuckle. "You're as bad as your father was at your age."

The apothecary was next, its sharp smells and colorful vials fascinating the younger Potters. Lily took the lead here, explaining the uses of various potions ingredients, her passion for the subject clear.

"Dragon liver?" Lillian asked, wrinkling her nose.

"Very useful for strengthening potions," Lily replied with a laugh. "Though it doesn't smell very nice."

They stopped briefly at Quality Quidditch Supplies, where James couldn't resist buying Harry and Rose the latest Nimbus broom-cleaning kits. "You'll thank me later," he declared, ignoring Dorea's raised eyebrow.

By the time the group reached the end of the alley, their arms were full of supplies, and their spirits were high.

"Next stop, Ollivanders," Charlus announced, his deep voice cutting through the chatter.

Harry felt a strange mix of anticipation and nostalgia. The idea of choosing a wand was thrilling, but he couldn't shake the weight of his past memories—the Elder Wand, the battles fought, and the choices made.

Rose, ever the optimist, broke his train of thought. "I wonder what kind of wand I'll get," she mused, her voice brimming with excitement.

Harry smiled faintly. "You'll find the perfect one," he said quietly, his calm demeanor masking his own anticipation.

As the family made their way toward the iconic wand shop, Dorea watched her grandchildren closely. She saw the excitement in Rose, the quiet determination in Harry, and the boundless curiosity in the younger ones.

For a moment, she allowed herself to hope that their future would be as bright as this day. But deep down, she knew the world was unpredictable, and their journey was only just beginning.
