Chapter 6: High Speed
Going down the stairs quickly, Alex found that it was indeed Charlie who had just come inside the house and still even had his policeman outfit on.
"Welcome back dad, anything interesting going on at work" Alex said as he hugged the man.
'Even though it feels weird to call him my dad, I still think it's better than seeing a nice guy like Charlie sad. He really doesn't deserve to have neither of his children call him father or dad.' Alex thought as he remembered his own dad, the one he had left behind.
Shaking his head quietly, Alex tried to remove such thoughts from his head.
'Not the time to deal with that emotional rollercoaster' Alex thought.
"Nothing new, just a simple case of robbery, the criminal was the grandson. The kid thought he could buy a new computer with the money but was found out quickly by his parents so the case solved itself." Charlie said as he started going upstairs.
"I'm going to change in my room, wanna head out and get some pizza after Alex? I know a really good place in town, you used to love going there as a kid." Charlie said as he faced Alex from the end of the stairs.
"Sure Dad, I'll call Bella," Alex said as he followed the man upstairs and went to knock on Bella's door.
*Knock* *Knock*
"Can I come in Bella?" Alex asked and then a second later heard Bella grumbling as she answered him to come on in.
Opening the door, he found her laid out on the bed reading a book about some old classical musician.
"Still reading that shitty book? Classical music is alright but even reading about the damn musician? Isn't that a bit of an obsession?" Alex asked in a tone he only reserved for when he was teasing Bella.
"Shut up, you wouldn't ever understand me" Bella screamed like a heathen or at least Alex thought so.
"All right allright, calm down you demon from hell. Dad wants us to go to a pizza place, come downstairs in half an hour, or I'm burning their books." Alex said and then quickly closed the door and headed downstairs.
He didn't need to have supernatural senses to hear the demonic screams from behind that door.
Shivering, Alex rubbed his hands as he thought.
'Truly, No supernatural being comes close to her' Alex thought.
Sitting down on the Sofa, Alex turned on the TV, it looked like a basketball game was on so he decided to watch it while he waited.
A bit later Charlie also joined him on the sofa.
"What did Bella say?" The man asked as he watched the basketball game together with Alex.
"She'll be down in a bit" Alex replied as he watched one of the players dunk on the basket.
"Do you like Basketball? I'm more of a Baseball guy" Charlie said as he turned to face Alex.
"Yeah, I like basketball the most out of the sports but not really a fanatic about it either, as for Baseball, I really have no idea about it. Just never really got to try it out or learn anything about it." Alex replied to Charlie as he ruffled his hair with his hand.
"You know I could teach you sometimes," Charlie said and then made a face as if he just had a realization.
"Right, I was planning to call Billy Black and his son Jacob to watch the next game, you could watch it together with us and we can tell you how the game works, how about it Alex?" Charlie said, his voice clearly showing how excited the man was about the idea.
'I guess it's not so bad' Alex thought as he stared at the man who was now his father.
"Sure Dad, I'd love to" Alex replied when they finally heard the thumping of the stairs as Bella came downstairs.
"Good, you're here Bella, let's get going already. I'm starving" Alex said as he got up from the sofa and turned off the TV.
Charlie got up as well and awkwardly greeted Bella.
'Charlie really doesn't know how to talk with Bella and sadly Bella's just as awkward as him' Alex thought as he shook his head in disappointment at the father-daughter duo.
Finally, they got in Charlie's police car and went to the pizza restaurant as Charlie called it though Alex thought it was more of a fast food place than a restaurant.
The night went well as Alex brought up some of his stories from Phoenix and asked Charlie about some of his while Bella stayed silent through the entire thing.
Turned out Alex used to have a crush on the waitress of this place when he was a kid and she with Charlie used to tease him about it all the time.
After they finished their food, they all headed back to the house as it was already 10 pm and Bella said she was sleepy and they had school tomorrow.
Charlie just nodded while Alex stared at her exasperated.
'If Charlie was a bad dad then I would have understood but bro bought you a car, you are one spoiled-ass heathen' Alex thought as he stared at Bella who had stolen his front seat spot.
'It's not like I wanted it either way' Alex thought though his facial expression showed a different story from his thoughts.
Finally, after everyone went to their rooms to sleep, and the moon rose up in the sky fully, Alex's time had come.
'I can finally go and check out my abilities' Alex thought as he heard the soft breaths of Charlie and Bella.
Getting up from his bed, Alex went to the window and tried to open it as quietly as he could, unfortunately as was the tradition of sneaking out at night.
Everything's noise value had a massive buff.
*Creeeek*
'God damned window' Alex thought as he once again concentrated on Bellas and Charlie's breathing sounds.
Finding them soft and deep just like before, Alex breathed a sigh of relief as he finally pried the window open and stared at the ground.
*Gulp*
'I know I have superpowers but it's still scary as hell to jump from a second story y'know?' Alex thought as he made up his mind and then closed his eyes and jumped down.
And he landed perfectly.
'That felt like I jumped on a cushion' Alex thought in amazement, his expression looked like he was a kid who had just found the most amazing toy in the world.
'And this is just me without even transforming' Alex thought as he grew more and more excited.
'First, let's find a spot in the forest though, don't really wanna do this in front of my house.' Alex thought and then dashed towards the forest on the other side of the road, right in front of the house.
At first, his speed was normal but as he tried more and more, that quickly changed.
'I'm not even really trying, it's like if I think about going faster then my body goes faster.' Alex thought as a wide grind engulfed his face.
His handsome face didn't help him this time as that grin and running at superhuman speeds at midnight did make him look like a demon.
-To be Continued.
