Reincarnated as Itsuka Shido: Collecting Spirits as Lovers

Chapter 16: Chaotic Morning

Shido stood in the hallway, facing Tamae, the innocent and petite-looking teacher who somehow appeared more like a middle schooler than a full-grown adult.

Despite her petite stature and soft demeanor, he couldn't help but feel awkward under her curious gaze.

"This is what she meant by 'implement'?" Shido muttered to himself.

Tamae tilted her head slightly. "Do you need something from me, Itsuka-kun?" Her tone was gentle, but her words made Shido come back to his senses.

Shido winced internally.

"What are you doing, Shido?"

"Hurry up and make your teacher fall in love with you!"

Kotori's sharp and commanding voice, echoed on his earpiece.

From her position in the Physics Preparation Room, she and Reine were watching everything through the monitor with great interest.

"Was this really necessary?" Shido muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible.

"Yes, it's necessary."

Kotori's voice came through.

"I already told you this exercise is to help you talk to Spirits. If you can't even handle making a human like you, what chance do you have with a Spirit?"

Shido sighed helplessly, glancing back at Tamae, who was now looking at him with an expectant smile.

There was no way he could explain himself properly. His eyes wandered to her adorable expression, and he had to admit, she looked incredibly youthful for a teacher in her late twenties.

"Ah... um..." Shido tried to find the right words, but under the pressure of both Kotori's commands and Tamae's kind smile, his brain seemed to shut down entirely.

"Well?" Tamae tilted her head again, her smile softening further.

With a sharp inhale, Shido steeled his nerves.

'Fine. If I can survive this, maybe I'll have some chance with a Spirit.'

Shido met Tamae's gaze, determined to see this through. He made a slight smile and said, "Your clothes really suit you today, Okamine-sensei."

Tamae blinked, taken aback by the unexpected compliment. "W-What? Really?"

A faint blush dusted her cheeks, and she touched her uniform self-consciously. "I… I didn't think anyone would notice."

"Of course I noticed. They look really cute on you," Shido added, building on his compliment.

Tamae's blush deepened, and she covered her cheeks with her hands in a shy gesture. "T-Thank you, Itsuka-kun. That's very sweet of you to say."

Encouraged by her reaction, Shido pressed forward.

"Actually, since becoming a student here, I've always looked forward to coming to school."

"You have?" Tamae tilted her head, her eyes bright with curiosity.

"Yeah." Shido said with sincerity.

"And the reason is… because you're my homeroom teacher, Okamine-sensei." He maintained eye contact, his voice unwavering despite his nerves.

Tamae froze in place, her face turning as red as a tomato. "E-Eh?!"

"I've been in love with you since the beginning." Shido continued boldly, though his internal thoughts were in utter chaos.

'What am I even saying?!'

"Wha—!" Tamae gasped, her hands trembling slightly. "Y-You're joking, right?"

Shido shook his head. "I'm serious, Sensei."

"I… I seriously want to marry you!"

The words hung in the air like a thunderclap, and for a moment, Okamine Tamae was completely still.

Then, as if an invisible switch had flipped, her entire demeanor shifted. Her wide, sparkling eyes locked onto Shido with a fervent intensity.

"Y-You're… serious?" Her voice was trembling, her hands clutching at his. "Are you really serious, Itsuka-kun?"

Before Shido could answer, pink aura seemed to surround her, as if she had transformed into an entirely different person.

"Once you're old enough to get married, I'll already be in my 30s. Are you okay with that?!" she asked hurriedly, her face leaning closer to his.

"S-Sensei—"

"Will you meet my parents?" Tamae interrupted, her voice rising.

"Are you okay with being adopted into my family? Will you take over our family home after graduation?"

Shido's eyes widened in astonishment. What is happening?!

Back in the Physics Preparation Room, Reine and Kotori stared at the screen in.

"Hmm. The trump card for a 29 year old single women might have been too effective."

While Reine still had her usual deadpan expression. Kotori on the other hand was overwhelmed by Tamae's excitement.

In the hallway, Shido took a step backward, sweat running down his face as Tamae gripped his hands tighter, her eyes almost gleaming with stars within them.

"S-Sorry, Okamine-sensei! I don't think I'm ready for this yet!" he shouted before turning on his feet and sprinting away.

Tamae stood frozen in the hallway, a dazed look on her face as she imagine their future.

As Shido darted through the hallway, still flustered from his encounter with Tamae-sensei, he suddenly collided with someone head-on.

Both he and the other person stumbled backward.

"S-Sorry, are you oka—" Shido began, but his words caught in his throat when his eyes inadvertently traveled downward.

There, lying on the floor with her legs in an unmistakable M shape, was none other than Tobiichi Origami. Her pure white panties were clearly visible to Shido's stunned eyes.

Origami's expression remained calm, even as she quickly adjusted her position, smoothing down her skirt as though nothing had happened.

Back in the Physics Preparation Room, Kotori's gleeful voice came through the earpiece.

"This is perfect, Shido. Don't you think it's time to practice with someone your age?"

"What?" Shido muttered, still trying to process what he'd seen.

"Don't you want data on how to talk to girls? Besides, even though she's not a Spirit, she's still a member of the AST."

"Tobiichi doesn't seem like the type to kiss and tell." Kotori's tone turned teasing. "Hurry up! Just praise her already!"

Shido groaned, feeling a headache coming on.

'If you know what she's like in the original story then you would definitely not say that.'

Origami, now standing in front of him, stared at him blankly, waiting for him to speak. With Kotori's incessant nagging in his ear, Shido took a deep breath and gave it his best shot.

"Uh… Tobiichi…" he began, awkwardly scratching his head.

"Um, your clothes are cute!"

Origami blinked, her tone utterly flat as she replied, "I'm wearing a uniform."

In the Physics Preparation Room, Kotori facepalmed. "Why are you praising her uniform, you idiot?!"

Before Shido could say anything, Reine chimed in over the earpiece in her calm, measured voice. "Shin, I'll help you."

Shido refocused his attention on Origami, who continued to look at him unflinchingly.

"Tobiichi." Shido began again, trying to stay composed, "I've actually known about you for a while."

"Me too." Origami replied without hesitation.

Shido blinked, caught off guard. "R-Really?"

Though surprised, Shido pressed on. "Well, I'm really happy we're in the same class this year. I… watch you all the time during class."

"Me too."

Shido's brows twitched as the conversation took an unexpected turn.

"Not only that, but I also sniff your gym clothes after school."

"Me too." Origami replied, her deadpan expression unwavering.

"R-Really…?" Shido's nervous laughter filled the space, his mind spinning from how strange their exchange had become. "I guess we have a lot in common."

Origami gave the slightest nod. "Yeah."

At a loss for words, Shido sighed in defeat. "In that case… will you go out with me?" His tone carried a hint of resignation, wanting to die from embarrassment.

But, to his utter shock, Origami replied instantly, "I don't mind."

"What?" Shido froze, staring at her in disbelief. "You mean… going out like hanging out? Is that what you mean?"

Origami tilted her head slightly, her blank expression shifting just enough to show confusion. "Huh? I thought you were talking about dating."

"Eh?" Shido's voice cracked.

"Was I mistaken?" she asked, still as calm as ever.

"N-Not really… but…" Shido stammered, feeling the weight of the moment crush him.

Origami stepped closer, her gaze intense but unwavering. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small photo, placing it gently into Shido's hand.

"What is this?" Shido asked cautiously.

Origami's voice was completely straightforward as she replied, "A picture of me in my school uniform. You said you like uniforms."

Shido looked down, and his jaw nearly dropped. It was indeed a picture of Origami wearing her school uniform, complete with her signature scrawled at the bottom in neat handwriting.

Shido could only sigh speechlessly, clutching the photo as Origami stared at him, her expression unreadable.
