Reincarnated Maid is About To Be Captured by All Players

Volume 1 Chapter 45

The major player factions were still observing the practice of giving gifts to raise favorability, but a large number of ordinary players were still willing to give gifts.

Unlike my reluctant attitude on the first day, I now genuinely hoped to find a suitable master. I needed a job, and I couldn’t keep relying on the charity of adventurers.

However, when I tried to communicate with adventurers with the mindset of finding a master, I really wanted to vent loudly.

— Are you all here to find a servant or a wife?!

Although I learned from Hoenheim that most players had ulterior motives, it was extremely troubling that all of them seemed to be here for romance. Doesn’t anyone need a maid for actual work?

Upon reflection, perhaps they misunderstood the favorability mechanics.

I don’t have the autonomy to choose whose follower I become. That mechanism only triggers when my favorability reaches its maximum. Acquiring exclusive NPC followers has strict conditions and can’t be shortcutted. Yet, becoming a follower and finding an employer are two different matters, and it seemed that no one had noticed this difference.

Struggling with this issue, I didn’t know how to bring it up. Finding a job turned out to be very difficult.

“Oh, beautiful lady, please forgive me.”

After dealing with yet another gift-giving player today, suddenly a handsome and familiar face entered my view.

The enviable handsome guy that one would never forget after seeing just once, Lord Evanhe of Smeily.

He apologized to me profoundly, though I don’t recall him doing anything to wrong me.

“Greetings, Lord Evanhe of Smeily. May the merciful Father God soothe your pain.”

“The scars on my body are a symbol of honor. From the moment I became a knight, I was prepared to be covered in wounds to fulfill my knightly duties. But why did I inadvertently make a lady I should protect fall for me? Lady, even if you don’t say anything, I know the wound is on me, and the pain is in your heart…”

“…”

Did I look heartbroken?

“Please forgive me! You have captivating eyes like amethysts, and I let those eyes fill with rivers of sadness. What a great sin…”

He assumed that his rash entry into the army of adventurers had moved me deeply, that I was constantly worrying about his safety, and that his failure to consider my feelings was a dereliction of his knightly duties… I just wished he would listen to me for once.

I ignored Evanhe’s self-flagellating remorse.

“You’ve suffered quite a few injuries; it must have been a fierce battle.”

“Yes. Several times I nearly lost the strength to hold my sword. Each time, I thought of your pure and flawless smile, and I found almost infinite courage.”

Have I ever smiled in front of Evanhe…?

Nonetheless, I was surprised to see Evanhe standing before me, alive and kicking, although his head was messily bandaged.

I sighed, “Lord Evanhe, would you allow me the privilege of healing your wounds? You might need to lower your noble head.”

“It would be my honor.”

I couldn’t stand looking at Evanhe’s haphazardly wrapped bandages any longer.

Evanhe kneeled before me as if receiving a title from his lord, though I felt there was no need for such formality. Given my height, if Evanhe didn’t lower his head, I’d have to be on my tiptoes to heal him.

I unwrapped the bandages, fetched fresh replacements from my storage space, and applied healing magic to speed up the healing process. Given Evanhe’s robust physique, he should recover within an hour. I’d have felt embarrassed to ask Evanhe to remove his upper armor in public to check for more injuries.

“Count Smeily left for his domain last evening,” Evanhe suddenly said. “I’ve been ordered to stay in Roschild and continue serving as your knight.”

I thought Evanhe might have misunderstood Count Smeily’s intentions. It wasn’t about guarding but raising favorability. Was Count Smeily overly confident or did he just have high trust in Evanhe?

“Unfortunately, I have no need for a knight.”

I diplomatically expressed my opinion to Evanhe, but when he stood up, he failed to grasp what I was trying to say.

“No matter, I’ll set up camp outside of Roschild. Whenever you need me, Evanhe of Smeily will come to assist. This is the [task] given to me by Count Smeily, and it is my mission.”

The speaker had no intent, but the listener took it to heart.

[Task]…

After saying this, Evanhe took his leave. So he was just here to tell me he was camping outside Roschild?

Watching Evanhe’s retreating figure, I noticed that all the players were staring enviously at the bandages I had wrapped around Evanhe’s head.

One player even clenched his teeth, stomped his foot, and cut his own arm.

“Miss Anna, I’m injured, please heal me!”

“Eh?”

Prompted by him, other players suddenly had a flood of thoughts.

“Miss Anna! I just sprained my ankle! Please help me up.”

“Miss Anna, please change into a nurse’s outfit and give me an injection!”

“Quick, someone find a venomous snake that requires venom sucking. I have a bold idea!”

Will I… really be able to find a master I like among these adventurers?
