Reincarnated Maid is About To Be Captured by All Players

Volume 1 Chapter 47

[Tasks].

In almost every game, there are tasks, and this is especially true in MMORPGs.

“The Eternal Pacificus” does not force players to undertake tasks, but players can certainly do so if they wish. Claris is an NPC who issues weekly tasks, usually involving the extermination of bandits.

Some tasks are quite traditional MMORPG-style, clearly stating rewards and telling players what to do. Others simply inform you that you’ve accepted the task and leave you without any clues.

Interestingly, the game doesn’t limit how players can complete tasks.

For instance, in a stealth mission, all you need to do is achieve the objective. You could choose to sneak in or waltz in brazenly. Though the latter is more difficult, eliminating all witnesses also counts as a form of stealth, doesn’t it? That works too.

Similarly, in a thief mission, players can change their mind mid-way—although this is not stated in the task description—and opt to report the situation of the thieves to the local guards. The task then changes to infiltrating the thieves. There was once a thieves’ group where, except for one thief NPC, all other members were undercover guards sent by players. Even the boss was a mole.

The expression on that NPC’s face when he found out became an emoticon made by players without a shred of emotion.

Adventurers can be messy, but then NPCs don’t have much to worry about.

In short, due to factors such as race and region, the continent of Limoria doesn’t have a unified main questline, but there are numerous side quests and hidden tasks.

A crucial point is that NPCs cannot accept tasks.

For instance, logically, I should be able to accept Claris’s bandit extermination tasks, meet her conditions, and claim rewards from her. However, my interface wouldn’t display a [Task] system; only player interfaces do.

On the other hand, players with high status can issue tasks. As long as you offer attractive rewards, you’ll have no shortage of players willing to undertake them. Evanhe, who stayed in Roschild, accepted Count Smiley’s task.

“Tasks? You mean the special system loaded by adventurers?”

“Yes. I’m wondering if Lili might… trigger a [Task].”

Understanding my speculation, Hegedrifa lowered her head as well.

Both Hegedrifa and I are NPCs and can’t trigger [Tasks]. Given Lili’s unique situation, she might be hiding some task.

If we’re lucky, following the instructions of the task might even lead us to a cure for Lili’s eyes.

“It makes sense, but honestly, I don’t trust adventurers.”

Claris’s view aligns with Hegedrifa’s.

“If adventurers disclose information for rewards, we’ll be in trouble. Do you think any of the adventurers who visited today are trustworthy? Where can we find a reliable adventurer?”

Hegedrifa’s concern is valid. If a task requiring multiple adventurers is triggered, the situation would get out of our control.

Moreover, where would I find such adventurers?

The people I could think of are Anna’s support group, led by Hohenheim, and Smiley’s Evanhe. I think they are trustworthy.

But that has to wait until tomorrow. It’s not like an adventurer will drop out of the sky—

Knock, knock, knock.

“A visitor?”

At this hour?

I signaled Hegedrifa to put away her dagger. Using my scouting skill, I sensed that the visitor didn’t have a notorious reputation. They should be harmless. Besides, what kind of bad person comes through the front door?

“Yahallo~”

I opened the door to hear the voice before seeing the person.

“Ya… hallo?”

“Long time no see!”

Outside was a young girl in a cloak. Is it just me, or does everyone these days like to wear cloaks and hoods? Typical NPCs are usually old men in gray, black, or green robes. Why are there so many mysteriously hooded girls in Limoria?

“Long time no see? Um… pardon me, could you remove your hood?”

“No problem~”

So quick to agree. What’s the point of the hood then?

The girl removed her hood, revealing a pair of fluffy cat ears, which she flicked as if to be cute.

Beastman race.

I’m sure I’ve never had any close interaction with any beastman.

“Excuse me, are you sure you haven’t mistaken me for someone else?”

“Meow-no.”

I suppose that means no.

So I searched my memory once more, inside and out, and could only shake my head.

“I apologize for my ignorance… May I know your esteemed identity?”

“You’re so polite meow… It’s rare to find such a polite beastman in Arcadia…” She puffed out her modest chest, “Carlo Cat, a Catfolk adventurer from Arcadia~”

Carlo Cat?

“We… are meeting for the first time?”

“Yes!”

“…Then why did you say ‘long time no see’? I thought about it for so long!”

“Meowhahaha~ I thought ‘long time no see’ would make us seem closer!”

It just adds to the confusion!

“…So, Adventurer Carlo Cat, what brings you to my humble abode?”

Although I was irritated, I had to maintain my smile.

Calling herself Carlo Cat, the girl clapped her hands together and her amber eyes narrowed playfully, sticking out her cute, pink cat tongue.

“Help, I’m about to be caught by the guards meow…”
