chapter 11
Episode 11.
I saw Fried in the dormitory. He was getting ready to leave.
“Suhar, are you really not going back to your family during the sabbatical?”
“Fred, I told you. In addition to being taught separately by Sword Saint-nim, I will earn some money by working as a mercenary during my sabbatical.”
“Right, it was. Then I have to go now. See you after the sabbatical.”
“Okay.”
After saying goodbye to me, Fried left the academy. It was quiet everywhere, as if I was the only one left in the dormitory.
Most of the students returned to their families even though the sabbatical period had not yet arrived. Well, I heard that it usually goes down during this period because I don’t care about grades and attendance separately after the exam.
In fact, there are students who are far from the academy and their families, so they said that the academy allows them to return to their families even though it is not yet a sabbatical.
I found a guy who was a little awkward with me as I stood leaning against him in the hallway.
“Moredt… .”
Moredt also frowned and went into his room. We ran into each other several times because of the lecture, but the reaction was the same every time.
“He hasn’t changed.”
It was rather fun now. I thought he was a bad guy, but seeing that he was ignoring me this far, I was mistaken that he might rather like me.
However, it may not be an illusion, but in reality, during lectures, if I had a little difficulty, he would subtly help me.
“Well, only that guy knows the truth.”
Now I didn’t see Moredt as particularly bad.
***
Entering the room, Moredt sighed.
“You know I misunderstood him, but… .”
The Suhar that Moredt actually saw was different from what he had heard. It didn’t look like he gave up on the race for succession because it was hopeless.
However, the first meeting was not good, so I couldn’t be friendly. It was just secretly helping, instead of apologizing to Suhar.
“But that guy doesn’t seem to be returning to his family either.”
Moredt never thought of wanting to be friendly with anyone in particular, but strangely, his eyes kept going to Suhar.
That’s why Moredt made up his mind to reconcile with Suhar during this sabbatical and get closer.
The Sabbath came and everyone left. The academy, with only a few students left, was silent.
“Good.”
I liked this silence. Even though Ea Kirton, Freed, and many students had left, comfort was greater than loneliness.
“I should add this too.”
One condition has been added to my future healing life. stillness. I added that I should live in a quiet place where I feel comfortable just by being still.
A knocking sound interrupted me as I closed my eyes and used the mana breathing method.
An annoyed voice came out without my knowledge.
“who are you.”
“… … .”
There was no answer. Just when I wondered if I had heard the noise in the next room, I heard a small voice.
“I am Moredt.”
“ah… You may come in.”
The door opened and the person who entered was Moredt with a bright red face. Moredt, fidgeting, seemed shy.
I didn’t have any ill feelings toward Moredt, but I said it bluntly because I wanted to make fun of him.
“What business did you come to?”
“I… that… I’m sorry.”
“what?”
Moredt was shy and muttered softly, looking like a frightened puppy.
“Ignoring you from the beginning of that semester… .”
“Ha ha ha ha ha.”
I stopped laughing. When I suddenly laughed, Moredt seemed to be at a loss for what to do.
“It’s been a long time since I forgot about that.”
“I’m just sorry… And I want to get to know you.”
Looking at Moredt’s courage, I thought that if I had a younger brother with a strong sense of pride, I would have felt that way.
I reached out my hand to Moredt.
“I have something to say. You worked hard secretly helping me during the semester.”
Moredt held my hand.
“You knew that.”
It was the moment when Moredt and I were released. There was nothing to call it sediment in the first place.
“So I’m curious, why are you ignoring me like that?”
“in fact… … .”
Moredt said I misunderstood the person. Moredt said that he assumed that I was a person who had given up on the fact that my voluntarily resigning from the race for succession was hopeless.
“Ah, I just gave up because I wanted to rest.”
“what?”
“Do you know what nobles do?”
Moredt began to ponder. After thinking, Moredt said.
“Harmony between the estate officials and the surrounding nobility?”
“yes. But the management of the estate is very strict.”
“uh… ? There are vassals who usually help with that.”
“Moredt, think about it.”
Moredt thought about my words again, but shook his head. It was a look of complete ignorance.
“No matter how much the vassals help with the management of the territory, the final approval is given by the lord. Of course, the lord must be a noble who governs the territory.”
“yes.”
“Then, in the end, all matters are ultimately decided by the nobles, and that is no small matter. I don’t know if it’s a baron or a viscount, but think of it as a count or a noble above that.”
In general, the higher the rank of the nobility, the wider or more territories they governed.
“You are really dying. Is your father a duke? Have you ever seen a father who skips meals and works?”
Moredt immediately replied.
“I saw it.”
“yes! It means that the work of a noble is hard enough to skip meals.”
Despite my enthusiasm, Moredt did not seem to understand my thoughts well.
“Well, to put it in the end, I have no intention of working that hard.”
He suffered a lot before returning. Moredt shook his head and spoke to me.
“Still, unlike you, I will become the family head. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot of work.”
“It’s your freedom, so I have nothing to say.”
“But now I know a little bit about you.”
Unlike the image I showed at the academy, I had a lazy mind, but I didn’t seem to care about Moredt.
Rather, it was Moredt who looked relieved.
“I don’t mind being lazy. I just don’t like giving up without even trying, saying there’s no hope.”
***
The swordsman with his arms crossed was waiting for me.
“It’s late.”
“hehehe… .”
I had no strength in my whole body because I came back from early morning training. The Sword Saint glanced at me with a sidelong glance. My clothes were soaked with sweat.
“You worked hard though.”
“yes!”
“So, starting today, I plan to teach you swordsmanship.”
I was excited at the thought of finally being able to learn proper swordsmanship.
However, I was disappointed by the words of the Sword Master.
“Of course, it is not the secret swordsmanship of the Sarkid family.”
“yes?”
“You bastard, would you tell the family’s vision to a guy who isn’t even related to you? I don’t know if I have a daughter or granddaughter.”
So, what kind of swordsmanship are you teaching?
“You must have heard of it too, right?”
“Which one?”
“It means that all swordsmanship begins with basic movements.”
It was three movements: a vertical cut, a horizontal cut, and a thrust.
“Of course I know.”
“Based on those three movements, you will create a new swordsmanship!”
As soon as I heard the swordsman’s words, I couldn’t help but laugh. I belatedly tried to cover my mouth at the laugh that burst out without my knowledge, but the swordsman swung his fist mercilessly.
The pain came from around the crown of the head.
“Ugh.”
It hurt enough to bring tears to my eyes. The Sword Master didn’t care about me and started talking.
“Since ancient times, anyone can create swordsmanship if they learn the basic movements properly. However, the excellence of the swordsmanship will vary depending on the person.”
“That would be it.”
“And there are three elements in swordsmanship. Power, speed, skill.”
“Ah, I know that because I heard it during the lecture.”
It was from the basic swordsmanship lecture. It is said that good swordsmanship is to harmonize with these three things or treat them as one extreme.
“With these three things, various forms of swordsmanship come out. If you focus on strength, you will have stronger destructive power than anyone else, if you focus on speed, you can swing or stab faster than anyone else, and if you focus on skills, you will be more dazzling than anyone else.”
“yes.”
“Then how do you make swordsmanship!”
Finally, the story I wanted to hear came out.
“I will!”
“yes? Will… ?”
“As you wield the sword with willpower, your swordsmanship gradually develops. If you want destructive power that no one can stop, you will gradually acquire a perfect posture with hundreds of downward strikes with willpower.”
Well, it was honestly unbelievable. Maybe it’s because the swordsmanship of the Caldert family was so insignificant, I don’t know.
Rather than swordsmanship, the feeling was stronger.
“Anyway, what you have to do is think about the swordsmanship you want and swing your sword every day. Then you will gradually create your own swordsmanship.”
I still can’t believe it, but I decided to believe it for now. I couldn’t believe the training to raise my senses at first, but now I can feel the sense of crisis to some extent.
“Then, should I just swing the sword with my will every day?”
“That alone is not enough.”
“What else do you need?”
“It’s Dalian. But since there is no opponent for sparring, I will sparring for a while.”
I immediately realized one thing. I thought that the Sword Saint would fight with me. No matter what happens in the middle, the ending will end with me being the sword star.
Then I… .
‘It’ll fit in the morning, and it’ll fit in the afternoon too.’
The weekdays of the sabbatical period could be said to be the days when the Sword Saint was fit for the whole day. Predicting the future, I spoke with tears in my eyes.
“Thank you, Sword Master!”
Seeing the Sword Saint smiling, satisfied with my answer, a tear she had been holding back ran down her cheek.
‘I should hurry up and graduate from the academy and run away from the swordsman.’
Why did my father ask the swordsman like this? I felt like I wanted to resent my father.
On the first weekend of the sabbatical, I was supposed to go to the ruins, but I didn’t.
‘Let’s go after making my swordsmanship to some extent.’
It was clear that my swordsmanship would be of great help if I dealt with the orcs with the swordsmanship I would make.
Until the day before, I wielded each of the three basic movements with my will, and I felt that my own swordsmanship was gradually being created through sparring with the swordsman.
However, the swordsmanship of the Caldert family was also leaking out.
‘That’s right, I learned the swordsmanship before returning, so I can’t help it.’
Habit is a terrible law.
So this weekend, I decided to improve my swordsmanship in the morning and promote to silver mercenary in the afternoon. The five missions given as promotion missions were easier than expected.
You didn’t have to do all five, you only had to complete three.
After much deliberation, I picked three missions that could be completed in one day.
“Kill 5 goblins, explore suspicious caves, gather 20 glowweed.”
It was these three missions. Goblins usually live in caves, and luminous plants grow in dark places.
In other words, if you’re lucky, you can explore suspicious caves, collect luminous plants, and even deal with goblins.
Of course, this is only under the premise that there are goblins and luminous plants in the suspicious cave.
