Chapter 15: Chapter 16: Going to Different Classes, Trash Cans
"What the heck is he trying to do?"
"Is everyone in Class 1-D this strange?"
That's what the students of Class 1-A were thinking.
Even Mashima Tomoya, their homeroom teacher, looked confused but didn't say anything and left, leaving the students to discuss among themselves.
The silver-haired girl, who had previously not joined the conversation, acted like an outsider, just listening to others' talk.
That afternoon, aside from Class 1-D, every class would have one extra student. It was a very strange occurrence.
Class 1-B.
"We're very welcoming to new students,"
"But, won't you get punished by the homeroom teacher? Skipping classes isn't good," said Ichinose Honami, a cheerful and beautiful girl in Class 1-B, who noticed Rey and introduced herself, concerned about whether he would be punished.
"If you want to hang out, you can come after class," she added, her voice soft like an older sister, reminding Rey of the cheerful yet strict Hanada.
"Don't worry about me, I'm just looking around," Rey replied.
"Don't worry about getting punished, the teachers don't care about us, even if we sleep in class, it's no problem," he added casually.
Although the students of Class 1-B felt it was strange, they still found a spot for Rey to sit with a skinny boy. Even their homeroom teacher, Chie Hoshinomiya, didn't ask Rey to leave.
Class 1-B became the only class where Rey was allowed to stay in the classroom. It was a very friendly atmosphere.
"Come hang out sometime,"
Even after class, they greeted him warmly.
"I will, I will," Rey responded, trying to remember some of their names. After getting a sense of the class, Rey didn't stay long and left.
"Teacher Hoshinomiya, what's going on here?"
Ichinose Honami watched Rey leave and immediately looked at their teacher, who must have known something.
"I don't know anything," Hoshinomiya Chie answered with a smile, lying without hesitation.
"Maybe he's being bullied in his class."
"I'll ask about it later."
Ichinose Honami wasn't fully convinced by that explanation but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.
"In that case, please ask. If he's being bullied to the point where he's afraid to go back to his class, that's too much," she said, still feeling uneasy.
"Really, it's only the first day of school…" she muttered.
Hoshinomiya Chie smiled without saying anything and left the classroom.
Class 1-C.
Rey entered Class 1-C and felt like he had stepped into a place full of delinquents.
"Is this the delinquent class?"
"Hey, do you need help from a doctor?"
"What's going on here?"
Rey saw many students in Class 1-C with bruised faces, especially the boys, several of whom had been beaten badly. The hostility in this class was much stronger than the previous two, and the atmosphere was very bad.
Rey even felt like joining them.
'They must have lost a lot of points,' he thought.
"Hey, who are you?"
"Get out of here," yelled several students at him, some seemingly ready to act.
However, because the class bell rang and their homeroom teacher, Sakagami Kazuya, arrived, they stopped.
They glared at Rey with hatred, as if they wanted to beat him up, but Rey was already immune to this kind of intimidation.
He stood calmly at the door, observing the class for a whole period.
Class 1-C was the closest to Class 1-D, filled with problem students and delinquents. Rey's judgment wasn't wrong.
As soon as the bell rang to signal the end of class, Rey didn't hesitate to leave.
After a short yet eventful tour through these classes, he got a general idea of the first-year situation.
The students in Class 1-A were mostly high-quality social elites. They might not fully understand the school rules yet, but they had strong self-management skills and learning abilities. Even when Rey snuck into their class, not many were affected. They sat quietly and listened attentively to the lesson.
The students in Class 1-B were the next tier, middle-management types with potential to become leaders. They were also quite talented, and like Class 1-A, they had already picked a leader on the first day.
Meanwhile, Class 1-C and Class 1-D...
'Seems like two garbage dumps,' Rey thought, even though he didn't want to admit it about his own class. But the reality was just that. Compared to the other classes, his class felt like a trash heap.
They must have lost a lot of class points. Rey suspected that even if they knew causing trouble would reduce their points and affect their future, most of them wouldn't care and would continue as usual.
