Rick & Morty: Science is Power (SI)

Chapter 14: "MortySeeks"

It was an average morning in the Smith household. The sun was just starting to rise through the dusty windows of the garage, and I, Morty, was trying to ignore the waste of time rick had me waiting on. I was still adjusting to this whole being in Morty's body thing. It felt a little too weird to get used to, but after a few days, I started to realize that this world was a sort of like a playground and I just so happen to have the cheat codes.

Rick had been spending a lot of time tinkering in his lab, which was nothing new. But today was different. The usual clanging of his gadgets had been replaced with an excited muttering. I could tell he was onto something big. I mean, Rick had a ton of bizarre inventions, but this one felt... special. He had a certain manic energy when he was on the verge of something chaotic. And let's face it, I wasn't too thrilled to see what he'd come up with this time.

"Morty! Get in here!" Rick yelled from the garage, his voice laced with that trademark mix of enthusiasm and madness. "I've got something awesome to show you!"

I hesitated for a moment. He had that tone—the kind of voice that made you want to run for the hills—but I knew I had to go in. I had to stay one step ahead of him.

I shuffled into the garage and found Rick standing next to a sleek, blue box, covered in buttons and flashing lights. At the top of the box, in big, bold letters, it read: "MESEEKS BOX."

"Uh, Rick, what is this thing?" I asked, my brow raising, noticing the object in his hand.

Rick grinned like a madman, his eyes sparkling. "This, Morty, is the Meeseeks Box! You press the button, and it summons a Meeseeks—a simple, helpful creature that will do whatever you need, no matter how big or small. It's like having a personal assistant who will do anything for you. And the best part? It only takes a few minutes, so there's no mess, no stress, just results!"

I stared at him, unsure how to react. I'd seen this bizarre invention play, and with that I knew things could go completely off the rails.

"Are you sure this is a good idea, Rick? I mean, last time we messed with something that helped people, it kind of... spiraled out of control," I said, trying to play it cool. But Rick was already pulling the box closer to him, clearly not listening.

"Pfft, Morty! Don't be such a buzzkill. This is foolproof. Watch." He slammed his hand down on the box's big red button, and within seconds, a Meeseeks materialized in front of us. It was a tall, blue creature with a grinning face, its eyes wide and manic.

"Hi, I'm Mr. Meeseeks! Look at me!" it boomed.

I flinched. I'd seen enough of these things on TV to know how they worked, and I really didn't want to get caught up in their existential horror.

"What do you want me to do!" it asked, its voice all-too-cheerful.

Rick, as usual, was completely unfazed. "I need you to fix the plumbing, Mr. Meeseeks," Rick ordered nonchalantly. "The pipes under the sink are leaking, and I just don't have the time for it. You'll figure it out, right?"

"Task acknowledged! I'll fix the plumbing right away!" Mr. Meeseeks announced before marching off toward the kitchen.

I didn't have time to even process that before Summer walked into the garage, a smug look on her face.

"Why does everything around here always get so weird?" she said, eyeing the Meeseeks box skeptically. "What's the new machine thingy and what was that blue thing walking out?"

Rick, as usual, didn't even glance her way. "It's not a toy, Summer! It's revolutionary! You think chores are hard? Meeseeks will do it in seconds! Just press the button and watch."

Summer raised an eyebrow, walking over to the box. "Okay, okay. What's the catch?"

"Catch? There's no catch!" Rick said. "It's just an incredibly efficient tool for mundane tasks. I'm telling you, it's brilliant."

I could already feel the tension building. The Meeseeks looked innocent enough in theory, but I knew better. I'd seen how these things could spiral into chaos in the blink of an eye. Still, my curiosity was getting the better of me.

"Rick, can we try it?" Summer asked, her eyes glinting with mischief. "I've got a few things I could use some help with."

"Sure, why not? Go ahead and press the button," Rick said dismissively, already turning his attention to another gadget on the table.

Summer reached for the box and pressed the big red button. There was a bright flash, and before we could even react, a blue Meeseeks appeared, grinning wildly.

"Hi, I'm Mr. Meeseeks! Look at me!" it shouted, its voice so high-pitched and energetic that it made me flinch.

"Well, what do you need, Summer?" Mr. Meeseeks asked, staring at her expectantly.

Summer glanced at me and shrugged. "Alright, um... can you help me clean my room? I swear, I've been asking for weeks."

I could barely suppress a sigh. This was not going to end well.

Without missing a beat, the Meeseeks said, "Task acknowledged! I will clean your room!" Then, without another word, it zoomed off toward Summer's room, and we heard the sounds of frantic tidying in the distance.

"See? Easy!" Rick said, beaming. "Now that's a time-saver!"

But I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. These things had a way of overdoing things.

I looked over at Rick, trying to find a way to steer the situation back to safety. "Okay, well, uh, let's maybe stick to something simple for now, right?"

Rick waved me off, oblivious. "Oh, you worry too much, Morty. Trust me, it's all under control."

Just then, Summer walked in, looking completely unimpressed. "What's this, some new toy to ruin our lives?"

Rick waved me off, oblivious. "Oh, you worry too much, Morty. Trust me, it's all under control."

I shook my head still cautious of the meeseeks box but then an idea struck into my mind controlling my thought process fully. the meeseeks where dangerous when used for the wrong purposes but what if i could fix that entirely?

I grabbed the meeseeks box and headed out of the garage "I'll hand it to the rest of the family and see if they wanna use it but I still think this is a bad Idea!" I said loudly walking into the kitchen where no one was currently.

I could already hear the gears in my head turning. This was exactly what I needed. If I could just use the Meeseeks in the right way, I could get them to help me without triggering any of the usual chaos. But the trick was going to be keeping Rick in the dark while I figured out how to get what I wanted.

"Okay, Mr. Meeseeks, I need you to do something for me," I said, trying to sound calm and composed. "I need you to help me build... a Meeseeks box."

The Meeseeks' eyes widened in a flash of understanding. "A Meeseeks box? Of course! Task acknowledged!"

"Alright, Mr. Meeseeks," I said quietly, "Let's get to work. We'll need materials—metal parts, wires, a few tools. Can you gather them while I figure out the design?"

"Right away, Morty!" the Meeseeks said cheerfully before darting off into the lab.

I breathed a sigh of relief. As long as I read a few blueprints on ricks meeseeks box, this could work. I was going to build my own Meeseeks box, and this time, I'd be the one in control. No more insane things would happen with this in my hand, Id alway be in control. I'd have the power, and I'd use it to get a little breathing room in this bizarre universe while fueling my workforce for my company.

Minutes passed, and the Meeseeks worked tirelessly, bringing over parts and tools, following my every command without question. I couldn't help but marvel at how efficient they were. If only I could use this power to fix everything in my life.

Just as I was finishing up the assembly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around quickly, my heart racing.

Summer stood there, an eyebrow raised, looking at me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.

"Morty... what are you doing?" she asked, her voice tinged with that unmistakable Summer tone—half amused, half accusatory.

I froze for a second, the Meeseeks buzzing around behind me as they continued assembling parts. They were too busy to notice us, thankfully. I could feel the weight of her gaze, and I knew that I had to come up with something fast. If she found out what I was up to... well, things could get complicated.

I took a few steps forward, trying to keep my body between Summer and the area where the Meeseeks were still working. My heart was thumping in my chest. I needed to distract her, get her away from the area.

"Nothing? Really? Because it looks like you're up to something," she said, eyeing me suspiciously. She was smart—she could tell something was off.

"Oh, just some junk that Rick left behind," I said, motioning vaguely to the clutter in the garage. "You know, fixing up old gadgets and all that."

I turned to face her, smiling as confidently as I could muster. "You know, Rick leaves his junk everywhere. I'm just, uh, putting things back in order. That's all."

Summer seemed to hesitate, her eyes flicking from me to the garage, but I didn't let her get a good look. I made sure to block the view of the scrap metal pile with my body, and I positioned myself just in front of the area where I was hiding the new box. The Meeseeks, meanwhile, were busy at work, keeping their focus on the tasks I had assigned them, making it seem like nothing out of the ordinary was going on.

She took a few steps closer, but I didn't falter. "Alright, Morty," she said slowly, still eyeing me suspiciously. "What exactly are you doing here? Because this doesn't look like 'cleaning up.'"

I forced a laugh, loud and a bit nervous but just enough to seem casual. "Oh, Summer, relax. It's nothing. Really." I put the wrench down and moved towards another part of the kitchen , making a big show of rummaging through a drawer of old wires and junk.

"Well, whatever," she muttered, rolling her eyes and clearly not in the mood for another one of my weird "projects."

Summer gave me one last skeptical glance before she walked out of the garage. I waited a beat, making sure she was really gone before I let out a relieved sigh. That was close. Too close.

I quickly returned to the hidden Meeseeks box, checking to make sure everything was still in place. I hadn't made any noise or left any obvious signs that something was off, and that was key.

I had learned a long time ago that timing and subtlety were everything. I couldn't afford to slip up—not now. Summer was usually sharp when it came to figuring out what I was up to, but this time, I was ready for her.

I glanced over at the Meeseeks working on the various tasks I had set for him.

I carefully checked the components of the Meeseeks box I had been building. Everything was in its place. I was almost done. The parts had been well-hidden in plain sight—tools, random bits of machinery—nothing out of the ordinary for a tinkerer like me. It wasn't like I was making anything huge or conspicuous. It just looked like another one of Rick's half-finished projects.

I paused, listening for any sounds of footsteps or Rick's voice. But the garage was quiet, and it was safe. I had succeeded in covering up my work—at least for now.

With a quiet grin, I finally moved to the last step of putting the finishing touches on my secret Meeseeks box. As long as I kept my cool and kept everything hidden, I was on track to use the Meeseeks however I wanted without anyone else finding out.
