Chapter 20: Chapter 20: it was the silent, penetrating, chilling snow that fell, reaping lives.
"What happened?"
Stretching her body in a queenly way, Divya boasted, "Don't you know my skills?"
Cough
Everyone in her group closed their mouths, unable to hold back their smiles.
"Haha."
"Divya! Are you joking?"
Puffing her mouth, she almost resisted the urge to stamp her feet.
"Okay, my bad. I was saved because that fool dug a trap for himself."
"I swear that fool won't be able to sit for at least a week."
"Ahahaha," everyone laughed heartily.
Sneha added, while struggling to hold back her laughter, "His family is quite disciplined, which you can never imagine, but Dinesh..." She shook her head.
.....
Sitting in the lawn.
"Ramesh, what do you think of my decision?"
"Sir, your decision may seem hasty. We should at least give him a month."
Shaking his head, the silver-haired man replied, "This batch is going there, and I don't know when the next batch will go. The previous batch was about seven years ago. If we miss this, we won't have a separate foundation for my daughter."
Ramesh nodded, though time was against the boy.
"Since everything has been set, I'll adjust everything and find a quota for him."
"Hmm. And have you prepared the things I asked for?"
"Yes, sir."
.....
"Sam? Is your face alright?"
"This amount of heat is nothing to me."
"Thanks for protecting me."
Sam's footsteps halted, and he gave her a deep look before continuing to move.
"Anyone would've done the same if they were in my place."
Divya bit her lip, and a look of struggle flashed across her face. In the end, she shook her head and continued to follow.
"Miss, we've reached."
"Hmm," she replied as she entered the villa's perimeter, while Sam stood calmly, waiting for someone.
"Sam, I found a better place for you to train," the silver-haired man materialized behind him.
Sam nodded and waited for an explanation.
"That place is 500 km from here. You will depart at 10 PM, and someone will handle everything from there."
"Okay, sir."
"Your training manual will also be provided. Never slack off, because that would reduce your chances of survival."
Sam gave a calm reply, "Okay, sir," as though everything was normal to him.
"Alright, you may go and rest before your departure."
...
Lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling, he gave a deprecating smile.
"Time sure is cruel," he murmured, as his eyes drifted back to the dreamworld.
Unknown to him, his strange figure flickered and dimmed, resonating with something.
....
"Sorry, miss, but you aren't allowed to enter."
A maid standing at the door of a room intervened.
Divya gave her a sharp look.
"Did Father order this?"
"Yes, miss."
Turning her back, she moved toward the lawn, where the silver-haired man was enjoying a carefree life.
"Dad?"
"My daughter. Come here and enjoy some sunbathing."
Sitting beside her father, she puffed her face.
"Dad, I set a time with my friend for training, but the maid stopped me."
"I told them not to let anyone disturb Sam."
"Why?"
Giving a faint smile, the silver-haired man caressed Divya's silver hair.
"He's a diamond in the rough. For him to shine, he has to go his own way to maximize your security."
"But what about my bodyguard? You promised!"
Sighing, he revealed,
"I also want someone efficient to stand beside my daughter. I'm sending him to train for the upcoming Mega World."
Sharply rising from her seat, she shouted,
"Dad! Are you out of your mind? That will take years! What about my bodyguard?"
Shrugging his shoulders, the silver-haired man spread his hands.
"You may hate me now, but for your better future, I'm willing to take that risk."
Rising from his seat, the silver-haired man continued,
"I just hope you don't forget that the Verma family tag lies on you. Above all, you must think of the Verma family first."
Then he disappeared from her sight.
Sitting in the lawn, her eyes moistened.
Why?
Why?
First Mother. Then Brother. Now Sam.
Why does everything have to be taken from me?
Why is nobody here to love me?
Why?
An inner scream, as if wanting to engulf everything, escaped her. Unknowingly, her shadow, which had been still, began expanding bit by bit, forming a deep darkness within her.
...
Unknown to all, Sam had seen everything from beginning to end, and his eyes widened as if he were seeing his past self. The shadow was now materializing as the inner desires of Divya.
Staring at the sky, Sam could only repeat,
"Fight your worst loneliness and become a victor—or succumb to the misery of loneliness."
As if his mind snapped back, he clutched his head.
Groaning, he bit his lip.
"These memories? Whose are they?" His body mindlessly fell onto the quilt.
....
"Boy, eat this."
An old man in tattered clothes, with a shawl covering his body, dropped a roasted potato into the bowl.
Hopeless and lifeless eyes stared back at the old man.
Taken aback, the old man's hand trembled as he focused on the boy.
Tattered clothes barely covered his body, while the biting, chilling cold penetrated his soul, sucking his life energy bit by bit.
This scene snapped Sam back into a memory.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, he had been forced to take a mission in a snowy, cold region.
The sheep anguished over the loss of its lamb, while a crow perched silently on the snow, waiting for the sheep to calm its grief without interfering.
The sheep knew what would happen next, as did the crow. But they were both hopeless in the face of fate.
The sheep understood that the cruel one wasn't the crow—it was the silent, penetrating, chilling snow that fell, reaping lives.
