River Of Anew: Farming In Another World

Vol 2 Chapter 7: Boiled Potato

The next morning, when Foin woke up, a new panel was floating before his eyes. The day before, he had completed the book's last exercise as well.

"Congratulation! You have acquired a new skill! Perfect Breathing!"

Foin rubbed his eyes as he read the text floating before his eyes, and then he closed it. For the first time ever, he felt no special emotion seeing a message from the system. Of course, he was happy but was not particularly curious. He was more focused on his area and land.

He could see that the élion flowers that he had planted the day before had started growing nicely, except for the bunch he had planted next to his green peppers. The most significant change he could see was that they combined into one plant; at least, instead of many small ones, he could see a single stronger plant.

"It seems that planting more together really is working... At least for these two, however, when I planted more potatoes, the same thing didn't occur... Maybe I need to plant more of them together..."

He mumbled, and as he stretched his limbs, a new idea flashed into his mind. One that he had never thought of before, but now that he was thinking about potato, it occurred to him. He realised that he could make alcohol from the potato he had; although he had never drunk before, he was curious to taste it.

However, before he started working, he tasted his new type of tea, which not only used the flower but also the leaves of the élion plant. After a single sip, he felt nothing special at all, other than an awesome taste; however, as soon as the second sip touched his mouth, the previous one's effect kicked in. He felt energised, as if he had drunk some sort of coffee in a massive quantity. And if that wasn't enough, his mouth went a bit numb.

He only drank a few sips because it had such a strong effect that he was afraid that it might prevent him from sleeping at night. And with that, he decided that he would use fewer leaves, as this one had too strong of an effect on him.

Once outside of his half-complete house, Foin noticed that the dragon was once again not far from his developing area, and as soon as it noticed him, he walked closer to him. With a tiny grin on his face, Foin grabbed the bucked off his new beverage and walked over to the dragon.

"I have seen that you liked my tea. Would you like to try this new one?"

This sudden and direct question surprised the dragon. At first, it just stared at Foin and then bucked in his grasp but then nodded.

"Yes, please."

The dragon lowered its head and opened its mouth, and Foin quickly poured the entire bucket of tea into it but then instantly went to work on his potatoes. Unlike before, he put every piece of product he had harvested instantly into his inventory.

As for the dragon, as soon as it drank the liquid, it felt an immense feeling, one which it couldn't describe. All its injuries started smoking lightly and then slowly started healing.

"This..."

The dragon was unable to believe what it was feeling. Its entire body had gone completely numb, to the point where it was barely able to move, so it quickly decided to step away. Even its hunger was satiated by that one bucket of tea, and unlike Foin, the dragon felt tired and decided to go to sleep.

"Oh, I forgot that all the food is in my inventory, and I didn't put anything out for the dragon."

Foin quickly looked back and was about to rush back, but he could see that the dragon was already leaving. It was moving its wings and tail. Observing how the dragon was walking reminded Foin of a happy dog.

"What the hell am I thinking... This is insane... How could it be a dog..."

He thought to himself as he resumed his work. Just like before, he not only planted back the amount of plants he had harvested but added a few more just so that his garden would expand further just a bit.

He knew that if he wanted to make some alcohol, he would most likely need quite a large amount of potato; he knew the very basics, but still, he had never seen how it was made, so he was aware of the possible failures that may occur.

Once he was done with his potatoes, he harvested the fruits of his tree and decided to use two of them. Just like before, as soon as he tore them, the liquid started pouring out, and he used most of the liquid to make a larger bucket with two handles on its sides. And the last portion was used for a top, which he spent quite a lot of time working on. He wanted to make it about the same size as the bucket's mouth. As a result, he kept forming it even when it was nearly completely solid.

Just so that he could move it easier, he put a little knob with a hole in it at the top so that he could grab it or use a stick to lift it if it was too hot for him to handle.

Next, he selected an area and dug a hole; he paid extra attention to make it as even as possible. The dirt that he had moved was instantly put into his inventory, and he noticed that it was placed into a different slot because it was much dryer.

He grabbed the freshly made pot, filled it with water, and brought it back to the hole. He put a few smaller branches and a single larger piece of weed into the hole and then put a few dried grass in.

He quickly grabbed two of the metal rods which he had pulled out of the dragon and laid them on top of the hole; then, he put the panhandle on them so that most of the pan was in the pit. Foin carefully looked under the pot to see that it was not touching the wood underneath. He dug quite a deep hole so the flames would just like the bottom of the pot.

He then opened his inventory and tapped on the potatoes; just like for the dirt, a cube appeared before his vision, and he could move it. He tried pinching two of its corners and moving them around, and just like that, the size of the object also changed. Foin carefully shrunk it down so that it would fit inside the pot even if he put the lid on.

Just as he had envisioned, the rough shape of the object was made out of potatoes; of course, since they had a defined shape, unlike the dirt, there were air bubbles between each potato, but still, the pot was full, as the excess water just splashed out as soon as the potatoes spend in

"Alright, first test: how well does this material work with heat? Its texture felt as if it was some sort of metal, so I hoped that it would not melt from the heat... Also, if it works, I will need to find a way to get salt..."

He mumbled as he ignited the dry grass, and just to be sure; he even poured some sawdust on the burning grass and the sticks.
