Road to becoming the wealthiest: Starting From Treasure Hunting in the Cabinets

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Picking up Bargains Requires Good Eyesight!

Sean picked up a ragged piece of clothing and wiped the dust off the old safe, smiling as he said:

"The most valuable thing in this container is this safe."

"A safe?" Joanna looked surprised and slightly skeptical. "Isn't this just an ordinary old safe?"

"No, no, no." Sean shook his head. "This safe is at least eighty years old."

"Really? Are you sure?" Joanna knew a lot about motorcycles, but she wasn't so knowledgeable about other things.

Her understanding of motorcycles was thanks to her friend.

"Yes, it's true." Sean squatted down and pointed to the brand on the safe, saying:

"Look at this brand. The current owner of this brand has been acquired, and the brand has been shelved.

That is to say, there are no new safes of this kind being produced in the world."

"Oh, I see!" Joanna looked enlightened.

Although Sean knew Joanna was just trying to appease him, he still felt a sense of vanity satisfaction.

"So how much is it worth?" Joanna asked the most critical question.

"About..." Sean looked closely and gave an estimated price:

"It should sell for around 4,000 dollars!"

"Wow!" Joanna couldn't help exclaiming, "Together, with these two containers, we've made over 7,000 dollars!"

Even though Joanna was somewhat wealthy, she couldn't help but marvel at the income from today's haul.

They made money so quickly!

Sean immediately suppressed this thought:

"You can't think like that. Not all containers are profitable. We were just lucky. To be precise, today was a lucky day for both of us, you brought me good luck!"

As he wiped the safe, he continued:

"Most people who buy containers might only make a few dozen or a few hundred dollars. Some even lose money!"

Although Sean was new to the industry, he had been observing for more than half a month. He told Joanna about some of the gambling failures he had seen and heard, trying to dispel her notion of underestimating the risk of this line of work.

Joanna laughed and held Sean's arm, saying:

"Don't worry, I won't gamble on containers by myself. We have so many expired containers in our freight yard that if I'm really interested, I can just sneak one open!"

Sean broke a sweat.

He had forgotten that this beautiful girl's family owned a big freight yard.

There were at least a dozen abandoned or forgotten containers in it every day?

Just then, Joanna's mobile phone rang. She picked it up and saw that it was a call from her classmate, who said they were at the entrance to the freight yard.

As they left the container, they saw a middle-aged white man and a girl walking over.

"Andie, over here!" Joanna waved.

The short-haired, tall girl came over, curiously glanced at Sean, and said to Joanna:

"Is this your Prince Charming?"

"Yep!" Joanna readily admitted, "Hello, Uncle Ronald!"

"Hello, Joanna." The middle-aged white man greeted her with a smile, "And you, the young man from China, hello!"

"Hello, Mr. Ronald." Sean replied with a smile.

"What's your name?" Andie asked curiously.

Andie was a tomboyish-looking girl with above-average looks and an energetic aura.

"I'm Sean."

"Uncle Ronald, that's the Harley I was talking about."

Joanna proudly introduced the motorcycle, "I drove it out of the container!"

"You're so lucky!" Ronald genuinely envied her. Not everyone had such luck.

Ronald walked over and examined the motorcycle carefully.

After inspecting it for more than 10 minutes, he stood up and said with a smile:

"Not bad. It's a good bike, well-maintained, no rust, and the parts are original... Are you sure you want to sell it?"

"Yes, yes!" Joanna said excitedly.

"Well, I can give you 11,000 dollars..."

"Deal!" Joanna agreed without hesitation.

She had expected 10,000 dollars, not expecting an extra 1,000 dollars. Naturally, they agreed to the deal.

The motorcycle, parts, and tools were all taken away by Ronald. Sean called Mr. John and told him about the antique safe he had found.

After confirming the model, Mr. John immediately said:

"This is very rare. I know someone who wants to collect one. Wait a moment."

Soon, a stranger called.

"Is this Sean? I'm Whyte. Mr. John told me you have an old safe? What's the model?"

Sean told him the model, and after the man confirmed it several times, he said he would come to take a look.

While waiting, Sean and Joanna cleaned up the garbage from the container and took it to the garbage dump outside.

This was Joanna's first time doing this kind of work, and she was quite enthusiastic due to the profits they had made.

Forty minutes later, a car drove up to the freight yard.

A short middle-aged white man hurriedly walked over.

Upon seeing Sean, he immediately asked:

"Where's the safe?"

"It's inside. Mr. Whyte."

Sean smelled a strong scent of engine oil on the man.

Was he a mechanic?

Sean wondered as he followed Whyte into the container.

Joanna also followed out of curiosity.

She couldn't quite believe that this old safe, about the size of a bedside table, was worth several thousand dollars.

If it were left outside, she probably wouldn't give it a second glance.

"Yes, it's genuine." Whyte looked at it for a while before standing up and saying, "I think 3,500 dollars is a fair price."

"Deal!" Sean could tell that Whyte was a man of firm character, so he didn't try to haggle and agreed directly.

"Alright, here you go!" Whyte took a stack of greenbacks from his pocket and handed them over.

Sean thought to himself that if he had tried to haggle, it probably wouldn't have ended well.

Making a small profit of 3,300 dollars was not bad!

Sean was still thinking about how Whyte's decision to pay 3,500 dollars might have been due to the fact that he also had to give Mr. John 500 dollars in commission.

After assisting Whyte with loading the safe onto his car, Sean and Joanna left in high spirits.

"Let's get something delicious to eat?" Joanna said, clinging to Sean's arm. "To celebrate."

"Alright," Sean agreed, thinking they were going to a restaurant.

Unexpectedly, Joanna led Sean to a supermarket where they bought some ingredients before returning to the container where Sean was staying.

Her idea of a delicious meal was to have Sean cook it!

Joanna, resting her head on Sean's arm, said somewhat unhappily:

"I have to go to class tomorrow... I won't be able to see you again until next weekend. I hate it!"

Sean, on the other hand, felt that this arrangement was just fine.

He could take advantage of the week to make some money and improve his living conditions as he got closer to his goal.

Having such a beautiful girl date him in a container was not quite appropriate!

Even if Joanna didn't mind!

And so, the decision was made with a happy agreement!
