Chapter 38: Mouth Escape
The moonlight hung like a curtain, and the pink-haired girl stood with her back to the moon, perched on a large tree, her emerald eyes quietly watching the blonde boy below.
"Naruto."
Her cold voice echoed through the night, causing Naruto to instinctively take a step back.
Sakura watched as Naruto took a step back, and a slight frown appeared on her face.
She had just returned to the village after completing a mission, only to be informed by Hiruzen Sarutobi that Naruto had been manipulated by Mizuki to steal the Forbidden Scroll. She was ordered to recover the scroll and capture Mizuki.
But there was no mention of what Naruto was supposed to do.
What else could he do? Just take care of himself, of course~~.
"Sa... Sakura..."
Naruto swallowed nervously as he looked up at the girl on the tree. He wanted to run, but before he could make a move, that flash of pink had already appeared right in front of him.
Her speed—Naruto couldn't even comprehend it!
"In the time I've been away from the village, it seems like Naruto has been a bit too mischievous," Sakura's voice reached Naruto's ears, making him grit his teeth.
Gathering his courage, Naruto glared at the girl in front of him and angrily said, "Sakura!"
"Hmm, I'm listening."
Sakura's calm expression made Naruto feel as if he had punched a cotton pillow. It was like his anger had nowhere to go.
"Mizuki... Mizuki-sensei said you got close to me... because..."
"Because..."
Looking at the hesitant idiot in front of her, Sakura let out a small sigh. Her emerald eyes fixed on Naruto, and she spoke.
"So, just because someone casually says something, Naruto would suddenly dislike me?"
Naruto froze. He seemed to have done something unforgivable.
"No, that's not... that's not it..."
Naruto instinctively wanted to explain, but Sakura smiled and, just like before, patted his head gently. "Do you remember what I told you back then?"
"It was Iruka-sensei who asked me to go."
"Idiot."
Naruto's eyes widened.
That's right. It was Iruka-sensei who had sent Sakura to him. Sakura had already said that back then...
Mizuki-sensei was lying!
How could he have doubted Sakura?
Naruto felt a sense of despair, and at that moment, a figure appeared in the forest behind them.
Dressed in the distinctive Konoha ninja attire, with blue hair.
"Naruto, hurry and..." Mizuki's voice was cut off mid-sentence.
It was as though a drowning person had their throat grabbed. The smug grin on Mizuki's face froze when he saw Sakura.
His face alternated between pale and flushed.
"So it's you, Sakura."
"I didn't expect you to be here too."
Mizuki's black eyes darted around, already looking for a way to escape.
But the other members of ANBU Team Seven had already surrounded him from all sides, blocking any escape routes.
"Mizuki-san, long time no see. I didn't expect you to have caused such a ruckus in my absence."
Sakura stood by Naruto's side, her gaze fixed on the man in front of her.
This man had been her teacher for two years, but Sakura never felt any attachment to him. She had known long ago that this guy wasn't trustworthy. Back then, she had just followed the rules as a student.
"Stop pretending!"
Mizuki's face twisted as he realized there was no way out. His expression turned savage.
"You're just after Naruto too, aren't you?"
"What's the difference between us?!"
"The power of the Nine-Tails is enough to destroy all of Konoha!"
Sakura calmly looked at Mizuki, not stopping him from speaking.
She let him continue.
Naruto, standing next to her, listened to Mizuki's words, his face growing darker. The usual smile had long since disappeared.
"The village knows that Naruto is the Nine-Tails, so they all hate him!"
"They hate this cursed child!"
Sakura crossed her arms and looked at the man before her, knowing that if she didn't clear things up now, Naruto would forever have this burden in his heart.
Iruka!
Why aren't you here yet?!
"You're right," Sakura said quietly.
Iruka hadn't shown up yet, so it seemed she couldn't rely on him anymore. She would have to handle it herself.
"Huh?"
Mizuki froze for a moment before his face lit up with excitement, as if he had found a chance to survive.
Sakura was a genius from the village, personally accepted as a disciple by the Third Hokage. Even though she was only twelve, she was far from someone a simple academy teacher like Mizuki could defeat.
But if he could convince her to join his side...
In a desperate bid for survival, Mizuki nearly lost his mind.
Sakura, as a direct disciple of the Third Hokage, could never ally with someone like him, a rogue ninja.
Sakura glanced at the downcast Naruto, then spoke to Mizuki:
"Naruto does indeed have a fox inside him."
Hearing this, Naruto looked up at Sakura in disbelief. Could it be... he truly was the Nine-Tails?
"But to me, Naruto is a hero."
"A hero who sealed the Nine-Tails inside himself."
"The ignorant villagers don't know this. They simply think Naruto is the Nine-Tails."
"But Naruto has already been protecting everyone in his own way, protecting his friends."
"And he's protected me too."
The blonde boy stood there, stunned, unable to speak.
"This was the decision of the Fourth Hokage. Naruto has inherited his will."
"He believed that Naruto could protect everyone and use this power wisely."
"Even though the path ahead is full of obstacles."
Sakura closed her emerald eyes for a moment, thinking of the man in the textbooks—Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage. He really wasn't much of a father.
Compared to his wife, it seemed like his son wasn't as important.
"Even though the road is filled with hardship."
There was no turning back now. Minato, when you're resurrected, I'll make sure to thank you personally.
"The Fourth Hokage still believed Naruto could overcome everything."
"Now, it's not just the Fourth Hokage, I believe in Naruto's ability too."
Her emerald eyes suddenly snapped open. Sakura herself felt a little embarrassed by her words.
But there was no other way. This was the way of the ninja, especially Naruto.
"Stop joking around!"
"The Nine-Tails is just the Nine-Tails!"
"Where do you get all these lofty ideals?!"
Mizuki glared at Sakura fiercely, then pulled out the last giant shuriken from his back and threw it at her!
Clang!
The shuriken hit the ground, and a normal-sized shuriken whizzed past Mizuki's cheek, leaving a bloody scratch, before flying into the dark forest.
Sakura's emerald eyes now radiated coldness as she spoke with a murderous intent:
"Naruto, finish him off!"
