SCP System - MCU

Chapter 4: Site-01 - [SCP-002]

[ Welcome, Administrator. ]

[ To Site 01 - Lunenburg ]

[ Hidden Quest Completed! - Founding the Foundation! ]

[ Rewards:

- 15 SCP Tokens

- Four Security Officers (Sentient; loyal to the Foundation) ]

'Hidden Quest?' I ponder to myself. The explanation on my arrival from the system implied that it only gave standard quests... But hidden quests do make some sense if the point of it is to be entertainment for extra-universal entities.

Reading the rewards, they weren't too extreme for the bare minimum of finishing the tutorial and arriving at my new Site, especially as most Sites have hundreds of personnel, with around half being security. Yet, it's a good start.

'Like last time, they normally appeared in my inventory...' I think to myself. 'While I'm at it, might as well wear the equipment that I purchased from the shop.'

"Menu... Inventory." I say aloud, the system shimmering open as it briefly flashes through the menu, to the inventory screen.

[ SCP System - Inventory ]

[ - x1 SCP BDU

- x1 Gas Mask (Foundation Design, CBRN-A Certified)

- x1 Class-A Amnestic

- x4 Security Officers

- x1 Anomalous Book ]

"Equip SCP BDU and the Gas Mask" I say to the system. After a brief flash, the inventory decreases in scale and only includes the Amnestic in the menu. The BDU and Gas Mask appear seamlessly on my person.

After briefly admiring the capabilities of the System, I look back towards the gate, and enter the facility. Exploring the corridors, they all share bland white walls, panel flooring, and a rough unpainted concrete roof with hanging lights every few meters.

Eventually, I reached an office built into the side of a corridor. 'Administration Office?... And the only room in this facility so far.' I note to myself. Opening the door, I head inside to see a relatively empty room.

The walls are covered in what appear to be generic Foundation posters. 'Secure. Contain. Protect... Nice.' I think to myself. Looking towards the rear of the room, a wide mahogany desk with a series of monitors takes up most of the space, with a basic office chair behind it.

Walking around the desk and looking towards the monitors, I count one large primary monitor, with five smaller monitors surrounding it. The large monitor is displaying a user interface, whilst the surrounding secondary monitors are acting as screens for various security cameras across the Site, and diagnostics of temperature and motion detection.

'Well... Now seems like the right time to send out the guards...' I ponder to myself. "Menu. Inventory... All Security Officers."

With a brief flash of light, the four security officers appear in front of me. Glancing at their uniforms, they all wear a white version of my BDU, with black SCP logos on their arms. A Kevlar vest adorns their torso, while a black riot-helmet covers their heads and faces, with a balaclava barely visible beneath the blacked-out visor.

"Administrator." One of the Security Officers says to me, all four going to what looks like a stance for attention. "We've been briefed on our duties. Just awaiting your orders."

Glancing back towards the monitors, I see the Site is currently split into four sectors: The primary entrance zone, which we are in. The Light Containment Zone (LCZ) just beyond what looks like a smaller version of the blast-gate I used to get inside, a Light Inanimate Sector (LIS) which breaks off from the LCZ, and a Heavy Containment Zone, which is another ten meters underground through an elevator at the very end of the LCZ.

Glancing back up towards the Security Officers, I address them. "Split into two teams. Alpha and Bravo respectively. Two of you will remain in the entrance zone, and the other two will patrol the Light Containment Zone, including the inanimate sector."

After addressing the Security Officers, the four briefly speak before splitting off to their new tasks. Watching the monitors, I can see that the two in the Entrance Zone are guarding opposite sides of the hall; one towards the entry blast-gate, and the other at the gate into the LCZ.

The other two had already gone through the gate into the LCZ, using Clearance Level 2 key cards to open the doors inside the Site. 'I'll have to check if I have a card in here, somewhere...' I think to myself, before opening a few of the drawers of the desk.

Opening two of them, I find a small handgun with the magazine off to its side. 'Protection in the office... Makes sense'. Looking through another two drawers, I find a clipboard with a few sheets of paper attached to it, the SCP Foundation logo printed in the top. In the last drawer, I finally find what I was looking for- a keycard.

'Level 5...' I stare at the keycard, a black card with a centre white strip, the clearance level printed on the white strip in bold black lettering. The logo of the Foundation is also present at the top of the card.

'If I can remember right, Level-5 is the highest clearance in the Foundation...' Thinking back on what I can remember on clearance levels, the one in my hand is the highest clearance given to any member of the Foundation. Only select administrative, research, and the O5 Council had access to such cards. No information was restricted to holders of this clearance, beyond what is restricted solely to the O5 Council.

'What were the others again?... Level 0 to Level 4? Yeah, that sounds right' I continue pondering on the clearance cards. My new Security Officers have Clearance Level 2, which was also just called Restricted Clearance, mostly for security and research personnel who had and needed direct access and knowledge on SCPs in containment. Anything below that never or rarely had access to anomalies in containment, often janitors and financial personnel... Or brand new researchers and security. 'Probably use those for actual people who aren't provided by the system.'

As I continue watching the monitors of the Security Officers patrolling the Site, I remember the SCP quest... And the subsequent anomaly in my inventory.

Exiting the office, I head towards the LCZ blast-gate, and slide my new keycard through the scanner. After a few beeps of the scanner verifying the keycard, the gate opens with a slow groan, the gate grinding against metal as it gradually releases the hydraulic locks and opens.

Stepping through, I walk into the LCZ. More vibrant in white colouration, various doors lay against the walls of the halls. 'Cafeteria... Barracks.... Ah! The containment zone, exactly what I need.' I list off the various signs next to doors, before scanning my keycard into the keycard for the containment zone.

Heading inside, it retains the similar vibrant white colours of the LCZ, with heavier doors laying against the walls, signage rest next to the doors, all currently empty. Passing through the corridor, I reach another door. 'Inanimate Containment. This is it', I note to myself, before once again scanning my keycard to enter the sector.

Smaller in scale for the primary containment zone of the LCZ, there are only four doors in the corridor. The closest to the left when entering the inanimate containment sector led to a seemingly empty room, aside from walls covered in reinforced cubicles. The rest appeared to be rooms split into two chambers, for a total of six unique inanimate objects that needed heavier containment- mostly for the safety of curious personnel than the objects themselves.

Entering the closest, the room is split into two chambers of what I assumed was a ballistic glass to prevent breakage from most physical means. Closest to the walls, each chamber had a single dual-layered heavy door. Scanning my keycard to the scanner next to it, I enter one of the closed-off chambers.

"Menu... Inventory." I state to the system. "Anomalous Book."

With a small flash of light, the book appears in my hands, the cover seeming to slither as letters rearrange themselves from the previously unknown language, into English. "The Darkhold? Sounds a bit too... Edgy? Goth?... I don't know the word. Bit much, probably a deity who made it." I say aloud, mostly for my own sake. The book retained its maroon colouration and metallic trim, the spine taking on a vein or root-like texture.

Taking another glance around the chamber, I spot a pedestal near the wall. A glass case- also likely a form of ballistic or reinforced glass- laid upon it. Another scanner lay beneath the case. Scanning it, a small hiss is heard as tiny vents open, small electronic hinges open on the front.

Placing the book inside, I scan my keycard to close it, a small click letting me know it's now locked. Looking back over the book, its slowly returns to its previously indecipherable text on the cover, the roots on the spine fading.

[ Quest Completed! - Contain your first 'anomaly' within 30 days! ]

[ Rewards:

- 20 SCP Tokens

- Security Team or Research Team ]

'Good rewards' I stare towards the shimmering screen, considering on whether to have initial researchers or more security. 'One hand, more people with guns to protect this place. Other hand, researchers to test on anomalies and develop technology'.

"Research Team" I say to the System, deciding on having a group of initial researchers over more security on a mostly-empty and still clandestine Site.

[ Notice: Research Team moved to Inventory. ]

The system briefly shimmers the new text before disappearing. After briefly looking over the Darkhold, I swipe my keycard through the scanner next to the exit and leave the room.

Walking back to the Entrance Zone, I briefly nod towards two of the Security Officers walking past me, giving brief nods in return. Once inside the Entrance Zone, I head towards the Administrative Office and open the system inventory.

"Menu... Inventory. Research Team", immediately after, a flash of light appears in front of me, and eight researchers fade into existence. Unlike the Security Team, they each have nametags on generic lab coats. Each wearing different pants and undershirts. Most notably, they had lifelike expressions I could see- brief confusion, then recognition, and finally some excitement.

"Welcome-" I greet, making them all face me. "-to Site-01, the first Site to have been developed with the intention of Securing, Containing, and ultimately Protecting the people of the world."

I look over each of their facial expressions, before noticing one of them slowly raising their arm.

"Yes? You, with the raised arm." I say pointedly to the researcher.

"What exactly do you want us to do? You said the 'first site to be developed', so I assume we won't be communicating much with others in our new work, or have much to work on." He questions, getting nods from the other researchers in the room.

"Well-" I begin. "-You will be researching one of the first SCP objects we have in containment. An anomalous book, Euclid in classification, and Clearance Level 3. Likely thaumaturgic in nature, although that's not confirmed as of yet, hence the testing."

"Any further questions?" I ask as I glance around at the eight researchers. Receiving their answers through the shaking of their heads, I begin to give instructions to the group.

"You are all to begin testing on the anomaly. How many of you are Clearance Level 3?" I ask the group, to ensure they could actually go into the Inanimate Sector and its respective containment chamber. Two of the eight raise their hands.

'Less than I had hoped...' I consider the implications. Most Clearance Level 3 were Senior Researchers, or were Researchers tasked on a particular SCP and needed the clearance upgrade for it. "How many are Clearance Level 2?" I ask the rest- the remainder raise their hands.

"Okay, you will split into two groups. The two with Clearance Level 3 will be Senior Researchers and preside over testing and designing the document. The remainder of you will be standard Researchers for your respective fields of discipline, and assist the Senior Researchers." I give the instructions towards the group, they briefly converse before splitting into their groups, just shifting over to form two blobs in the room.

"You can begin your duties... You're all dismissed." I wave them off as they exit the room.

'Well.' I think to myself. 'This is the real start of The Foundation."
