Chapter 6: Magic
Greg's adventure with Abby began. During their journey, Greg was able to see beautiful things, such as mountains, rivers, lakes, sleeping under the stars, and even saw a white dragon with green eyes. It was magnificent... Apparently, they were getting close to the kingdom of Leymun...
One night, while Greg and Abby were resting, they began to tell a story.
"Hey Abby, are you awake?" Greg asked.
"Ah, yes, Greg. Tell me, what's up?"
"In these three days we've traveled, I've been wondering... why are your eyes like that?"
"I mean, they're not bad, actually, I love them, they're very beautiful," Greg said with a slightly shy voice.
"Mmm, thanks Greg for those nice words. You know, I really like your white hair."
"My eyes, my father gave them to me when I was little. You see, I was born with vision problems, and my family didn't have much money, so I wasn't going to last long, but my father made a pact with a dark elf. My father gave his life for these eyes."
Greg, just hearing this story, was surprised. He didn't know that dark elves or magical eyes existed...
"You see, my eyes are made of dark magic, so I can't undo the spell. My left eye, the purple one, with this, I can see through you."
"Can you see through objects, like knowing what's behind a box or something like that?"
"Ha-ha-ha, no, Greg. I can see through you. I can see if any bone is weak and break it, see if your heart stops or if any organ stops working. What do you think?"
"Wow, what an incredible power! Although, I don't know if you see it that way, since it was your father's life..." Greg said with a fearful voice because of the question he asked.
"No, Greg, my father knew what he was doing, and I'm grateful. He gave me these eyes, so I still feel him close to me."
"I understand."
"And tell me, what does the orange eye do?" Greg asked, very intrigued.
"My right eye is more practical. I can see the mana of every living being, even trees."
"Oh, how incredible. Tell me, how is my mana, a lot or is it little?"
"Let me see." Abby's right eye began to glow.
With Abby's eye, she tried to see Greg's mana, but she couldn't. Everything appeared dark, as if something was protecting him. Abby didn't know what was happening, but to avoid alarming Greg, she lied a little...
"Hey Greg, your mana is strong. I see that you've trained to strengthen your mana."
"Yes, I knew it. You see, I've been practicing magic since I was a child. I guess that's why."
"Probably that's it."
Although Abby was still puzzled by what she saw in Greg, she didn't give it much importance, thinking it was probably because she was tired from traveling...
"Greg, go to sleep already. Tomorrow, I'll give you some lessons about magic, as Noa said. You have to study, don't forget that."
"Yes, Abby, whatever you say. Tomorrow I'll pay close attention to your classes."
The next day, Abby woke Greg up so they could have breakfast and continue traveling...
"Alright, Greg, let's start. Tell me, what do you know about magic?"
"Oh, well, magic depends on the mana we possess. There are 4 elements: earth, water, fire, and air. With magic, I can control them. I know how to use fire and earth magic, the others I still can't control."
"And is that all you know? I had a teacher, but we only focused on combat."
"I see, your teacher was trying to protect you, that's good."
"How about we start from the basics?" Abby said enthusiastically.
"Yes, Miss Abby, teach me everything you know, please. I'll pay close attention."
"Let's begin. Magic is divided into 4 parts. First, we have Elemental Magic, where air, water, fire, and earth are used. This is what you use, from what I can see. It is divided into beginner, intermediate, advanced, and master levels. You're at the intermediate level, or even higher, I assume."
"How interesting! And if I only use elemental magic, tell me more," Greg seemed very excited.
"Alright, let's continue. Another part of magic is healing magic. It is used to heal wounds, burns, and fractures. It's very useful. I recommend you learn it so you can help your companions..."
"I see. My teacher used it, and yes, it's very useful. Although I don't know where I could find a teacher at the moment."
"Well, when we get to Leymun, we'll look for one."
"Yes, that would be fantastic, but please go on."
"Alright, only two left. One is dark magic. This magic is not very common, only on the elf continent, since dark elves exist. This magic is very powerful, but very unstable. If someone doesn't control it, they could lose control and destroy everything in their path. But, as I said, it's rare to see."
Greg, hearing what dark magic was, remembered the day his village was destroyed, wondering if he had used dark magic, and how he had used it...
"Hey Abby, how can I identify dark magic?"
"Good question, Greg. Look, one characteristic is that when it's an attack, it tends to change its element. For example, if you use dark magic to create a stone spear, dark magic can combine it with fire, water, or wind, even creating new elements. The most notable change happens when it's fire, it can change to various colors due to its instability."
After hearing this, Greg was convinced that he had used dark magic that night, but he didn't give it much importance, as he was heading to the kingdom of Leymun. There, he would learn to control it...
"Abby, do you think I could learn to control it?"
"Of course, although only the most powerful magicians can do it, but I'm sure you'll manage. You just need a good teacher and practice."
"Alright, finally, there's Divine Magic, although it's almost nonexistent now. Only divine beings, like gods, or those who were disciples of some divine entity, can use it. For example, Okron, the demon god who participated in the last war. Brishka, the god of creation. Myths say that his power is reborn from age to age. And Milents, the goddess of magic, who is said to have created all magic, giving part of her power to the first living beings, and that's how magic was born."
"It's said that these three created the world as we know it, but no one has seen them today. The last person to meet them was an elf named Richard, who supposedly used divine magic to stop the god Okron, but apparently he failed. Just imagine facing a god. That would be incredible."
"And that's all. What did you think of today's class?"
"It was incredible! Although I still have many questions, I'll investigate on my own." Greg said enthusiastically.
Greg already wanted to reach his destination to study and learn the new magic Abby taught him...
A couple of days passed. They were still riding toward their destination, passing through beautiful places. Now, they were definitely far from home, and Greg began to miss his mother and father, but he was going to fulfill his promise. He would return when he solved the problem of his mark...
"Look, Abby, the kingdom! We've arrived!" Greg seemed very excited to have finally arrived. Now, they just had to investigate and explore the great kingdom.
The kingdom was huge, surrounded by houses, and they could see a large white castle with blue colors in the middle of the kingdom. There were many people, mages, perfect for Greg. They even saw blue dragons flying over the kingdom... To the side, there was a large snow-covered mountain, and at the top, they saw a small city...
"Look, Abby, dragons! I've never seen one."
Abby looked at the dragons, though she seemed a little confused. Apparently, it wasn't normal to see dragons flying over a kingdom...
"I see them, Greg. It looks like they increased security for some reason."
"Alright, Greg, where do you want to go first?"
They had reached a large door, apparently the main gate, filled with people: vendors, warriors, mages, etc. There was everything. Now, they just had to investigate a little more about magic...
