Chapter 9: New Masters
The next morning, Greg woke up with his heart pounding with excitement, for that day would mark the beginning of his first training session with Abby, without the supervision of Lord Winston...
But to Greg's surprise, Abby had a gift for him. She had arranged for Prince Robert to provide him with a magic teacher...
The training field was ready. A vast space ideal for combat, with vibrant green grass and the air filled with the fresh scent of nature. It was, without a doubt, a perfect day for training. The sun was high in the sky when Greg arrived, waiting impatiently. And then, she arrived...
"Hey, Abby, how are you?" Greg asked, a spark of enthusiasm in his voice.
Abby approached slowly, raising a hand in greeting. In her hands, she held something special. Greg's eyes locked onto the object. As she came closer, he recognized it...
"Is that...?" Greg stammered.
"It's gear made for you. I had Robert order it custom-made," Abby replied, smiling.
It was a light armor, crafted from durable yet lightweight materials, adorned with metallic details and red gems that shone like small rubies. The mix of black and silver made the armor look majestic, almost like a work of art.
"IT'S AMAZING! Thank you so much, Abby!"
Greg couldn't help but rush over to her, pulling her into a tight hug as he expressed his gratitude. He was completely stunned. Then, with excitement, he mentioned that the fight would begin soon. The test of his power was about to start, and with it, the ultimate training.
"You're welcome, Greg. Now, get ready."
They both lined up, facing the vast field in front of them. The wind gently blew, bringing the distant echo of birds and the murmur of the castle. It was the prelude to a battle full of tension.
Greg gripped his sword firmly, his thoughts focused on his training, but he also remembered the words of his teacher, Lord Winston, and those of his parents, who always believed in his potential. Through the storm of thoughts, his lips murmured: "I'll do well, Lord Winston. Soon, mom and dad, I'll come home."
Abby watched Greg with a fixed gaze and an expression of expectation. She knew this young man hid formidable power, and she was eager to see it in action. However, it wouldn't be an easy fight.
"Now, Greg, don't hold back."
Driven by his desire to prove his ability, Greg ran toward Abby, wielding his sword with determination. With an earth spell, he summoned a stone tower, lifting him into the air. From above, he attacked with a fierce strike toward Abby.
"Shfff."
Abby, with superhuman agility, barely moved and dodged Greg's attack. Her skill was impressive. In the blink of an eye, she reacted quickly, and with a precise blow, kicked him in the stomach.
Boom!
Greg was thrown backward, but as he fell, he felt an odd calmness. It wasn't so much the pain that affected him, but a sense of protection. The armor Abby had given him had saved him. He stood up with a smile, realizing how important that piece was. He knew this fight would be tougher than he thought, but it was also the moment to demonstrate his true power.
With renewed confidence, he stood up and said with determination: "I'll do better, Abby!"
"Good, Greg. Now, get ready."
Abby's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she watched Greg, not knowing what was about to happen. He closed his eyes, his thoughts flowing like a torrent, and in his mind, the image of his greatest power appeared: magic. With a deep breath, he raised his sword to the sky and began to invoke his most feared spell.
"Great Flame of fire, come to me and aid me!"
A bright red glow surrounded his sword, and the air filled with energy. The sword was now an extension of the flames themselves. Without hesitation, Greg aimed at Abby and released all the power contained in the spell.
Fhhhhh.
A torrent of fire shot toward Abby, carried by the wind. Abby, maintaining her composure, watched the attack carefully. She smiled slightly, knowing this was a crucial moment.
"Mhm, impressive," she murmured as she prepared for her next move.
Without further ado, Abby jumped toward one of the towers Greg had raised, using her legs with incredible speed. Greg, determined not to lose, followed the trail of fire, but it was in vain. Abby was too fast. With an agile twist, she dodged the attack and appeared directly in front of him.
Greg, feeling that defeat was imminent, closed his eyes, but at the last second, he felt something warm on his forehead. It was Abby's soft kiss, a gesture that completely threw him off balance.
"Well done, Greg. You fought with all your being. To be honest, I was eager to see your power in action."
With a smile, Abby activated her special ability to examine Greg's condition. She noticed his heart was racing.
"Hey, Greg, relax. I don't want you to have a heart attack."
"Y-yes, Abby... I really enjoyed fighting with you," Greg's voice trembled with emotion.
"Rest now, Greg. Tomorrow we'll begin a new training session. This time, I won't be the one training you; it'll be Robert. He'll teach you about advanced magic."
Greg couldn't hide his excitement. The future of his training unfolded before him, and every word from Abby pushed him further to improve. But as she spoke, a figure watched from the shadows of the castle: Prince Robert, who already had in mind how to prepare Greg for what was to come...
The next day, Greg woke up more motivated than ever. The memory of Abby's kiss pushed him forward. Today would be the day of his training with Robert. Though it seemed like a simpler training session than the previous one, Greg knew he couldn't underestimate it.
As he ate breakfast, Abby approached him, and with a serious expression, asked:
"Hey, Robert, tell me, do you think I should be tough on Greg?"
Abby looked at him thoughtfully. The answer to that question was crucial.
"I think so, yes. After all, he's the bearer of the divine key. What do you think?"
"I agree, but Greg is just a boy. The magic I'll teach him is complicated. Do you think he can handle it?"
Abby had no doubts. She knew that Greg, though he appeared like an innocent child, was incredibly strong. She remembered Greg's words, who had unintentionally destroyed his own village with immense power.
"I'm sure he can. Greg has hidden power. He even accidentally destroyed his village."
Robert was convinced that he should teach him advanced magic. It wouldn't be easy, but Greg was destined for great things.
"Understood. I'll talk to him. The training starts in an hour, in case you want to observe."
As Robert headed down the castle halls, he thought about young Greg. How could an 11-year-old boy possess such great power? Robert knew there was much more to discover about that child.
"Hey Greg, I see your new gear fits well. Remember, training starts in 50 minutes. I'll be waiting for you in the field, get ready."
Greg nodded enthusiastically. The day of training with Robert had arrived, and his heart was pounding. He was ready to face a new challenge. Robert had chosen him, and he wasn't going to disappoint him.
When Greg arrived at the field, something left him speechless. There, in the center, stood a blue dragon, imposing and majestic.
"Wow! Are we going to use dragons for training, Mr. Robert?"
"This dragon will only be for support. Don't get too excited. Now, tell me, what elements do you control?"
"I use earth and fire, but I also know a bit of water and air."
Robert paused for a moment. Then, with a smile, he began to prepare the spell.
"Then, watch closely."
Robert's staff began to glow intensely, releasing a formidable magical energy. A huge stone ball formed in the air, casting a shadow over the entire field.
"This is incredible…" Greg murmured, completely amazed.
But the best was yet to come. The stone ball began to wrap itself in a cloak of red flames, resembling a meteor falling from the sky. Greg watched, fascinated by Robert's power.
"Is this intermediate magic, Mr. Robert?"
Robert replied with a serious look:
"No, Greg. That's master-level magic. What I just showed you is only a glimpse of what you could do, though it won't be easy."
Motivated by the challenge, Greg began to concentrate. His hand trembled as he tried to combine his elements. He closed his eyes and, with a deep sigh, managed to cast his spell. A mist formed around him, the result of combining air and water.
"Well done, Greg. You've managed to create mist. It's not impressive, but it's progress."
Greg smiled, satisfied with his progress, though he knew there was still much to learn.
"And what about blocking magical attacks?"
Greg remembered that he had never had to block a spell. He had only seen magicians like Robert in action. His heart raced faster.
"I don't know how to block magical attacks."
With a gesture, Robert made the blue dragon approach Greg. It was huge, with shining blue scales and penetrating green eyes. The dragon reared up on its hind legs, its colossal body covering the sky, and with a roar, it prepared to attack.
"Greg, fall back!"
The dragon unleashed a torrent of flames toward Robert. Without losing his composure, Robert raised his staff and, with impressive skill, split the flames in two.
Greg, amazed by the scene, fell to the ground. It was a display of power he had never imagined. But the dragon stopped attacking, and the training continued.
"Wow, that's incredible…" Greg murmured, still in awe.
"Now it's your turn," said Robert. "Use your sword to block the attack. Focus all your mana on the right spot and you'll be able to evade it."
With a new burst of courage, Greg raised his sword and prepared for what was coming. The dragon began launching new flames, faster and more intense.
Greg focused, and finally, with monumental effort, he managed to block the attack. But Robert wasn't satisfied. With another gesture, he made the dragon increase the intensity of its attack.
The flames were now even more powerful, like burning lava, and traveled at an unstoppable speed. Greg, struggling to maintain control, saw his magical mark begin to glow.
"Ahh! I can't take it anymore…" he exclaimed, fighting to resist.
Just then, Robert stopped the dragon. He looked at Greg, who was exhausted but still standing, showing a resilience that only he could admire.
"Well done, Greg. You're just as Abby said: someone formidable."
"¿Greg…?" Robert, looking at the boy who collapsed from exhaustion.
Robert quickly approached and helped him up, making sure he was just tired. As he smiled, he added:
"You're someone to be feared, Gregory."
