Secret Rich Heir End Up Falling In Love With A Poor Girl:Fading Letter

Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Hero

Jack tore through the school halls like a freight train, shoving students aside as he carried Lily in his arms. His broad footballer frame made it easy to clear the way, but the noise he caused didn't go unnoticed. Whispers and gasps rippled through the crowd, students peeking out of classrooms to see the commotion.
The chaos soon reached Ethan, who was in the middle of a math lecture. His head snapped toward the door at the sound of footsteps pounding down the hallway. Something felt wrong.
"Lily," Ethan muttered under his breath, his stomach twisting. He shot up from his seat without a second thought.
"Ethan!" the teacher barked. "Where do you think you're going?"
Ethan ignored her, bolting out of the classroom and down the hallway, his heart racing.
Jack reached the clinic and burst through the doors, startling the nurse who had been quietly jotting notes at her desk.
"You can't just storm in here like that!" she exclaimed, standing abruptly.
"I'm sorry," Jack panted, setting Lily carefully down on one of the beds. "But please, check on her. She's hurt—bad."
The nurse's sharp tone softened as she noticed Lily's leg. Blood had seeped through her gym pants, staining them a dark crimson. "Oh, dear," she muttered, quickly moving to assess the injury. "This is bad."
As the nurse tended to Lily, Jack clenched his fists, rage boiling inside him. Without another word, he spun on his heel and stormed out of the clinic, his jaw tight and his eyes burning with fury.
In the hallway, Jack ran straight into Ethan, who grabbed his shoulder to stop him.
"Jack!" Ethan said, his voice urgent. "Is she okay? What happened?"
Jack stared at Ethan, his mind too clouded with anger to form coherent thoughts.
"Jack!" Ethan repeated, louder this time.
Jack snapped out of his daze. "Yeah… yeah, it's bad," he said through gritted teeth. "The nurse is with her now."
Ethan frowned. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to set things straight," Jack growled, his tone cold and resolute. "That kid—he's going to regret what he did."
Ethan stepped in front of him, blocking his path. "Wait. No. What are you planning to do?"
"I'm going to kill him," Jack said without hesitation, his fists trembling with barely contained rage.
Ethan grabbed both of Jack's shoulders, forcing him to stop and look him in the eye. "No, Jack. It's not worth it."
"What do you mean, it's not worth it?" Jack snapped, his voice rising. "Have you seen Lily? She's hurt because of that jerk!"
Ethan tightened his grip, his eyes steady and unwavering. "I'll handle it."
Jack stared at Ethan, his breathing heavy. He could see the same fire burning in Ethan's eyes—the same unrelenting anger. For a moment, it caught him off guard, calming the storm inside him.
"Fine," Jack muttered, stepping back. "I trust you. Don't let me down."
Ethan nodded. "I won't."
As Jack turned to head back to the clinic, Ethan pulled out his phone and made a quick call.
"Hello, this is Ethan. Get me the school district attorney."
Jack, meanwhile, re-entered the clinic, his heart still heavy with worry. Lily was sitting up now, her leg propped up and wrapped in fresh bandages. She waved at him, her usual spunky demeanor peeking through the pain.
"Yo," she said with a small grin.
The nurse glanced at Jack and smiled. "You're quite the hero. If her leg hadn't been treated so quickly, things could've been a lot worse."
Jack rubbed the back of his neck, trying to shake off the compliment. "I just did what anyone would do."
Lily tilted her head, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Not everyone would bulldoze through half the school, Jack."
He chuckled softly, scratching his head. "Well, I guess I'm not 'everyone,' huh?"
As he stood by her side, the weight of what had happened started to sink in. Lily was hurt, but she was safe now. Still, a part of him couldn't let go of the anger he felt toward the boy who had caused this.
But for now, he stayed by Lily's side, doing his best to keep her spirits up.
The student who pushed Jack and Lily during the relay was quickly brought to justice. The school administration didn't take the incident lightly, holding him as an example of what happens to bullies. Multiple disciplinary actions were imposed on him, from suspension to mandatory community service. His story spread like wildfire, warning others to think twice before engaging in such behavior.
Jack was the first to hear the news and couldn't help but marvel. "Wow. How did Ethan manage to pull that off?"
"Ethan?" Lily asked, confused. "What did he do?"
Jack explained, "He said he'd handle it, and... well, I guess he really did."
Lily's thoughts drifted for a moment, her face shifting as she suddenly remembered something. "Oh no! The competition!"
Jack raised an eyebrow. "What competition?"
She quickly explained, but as she tried to get up, Jack's large hand gently rested on her shoulder, keeping her still. "You're not going anywhere like this," he said firmly.
Later that day, Ethan returned home. As he entered, his voice echoed through the halls. "Gregory!"
"Yes, young master?" Gregory replied, appearing promptly.
"What's the first challenge for the maid competition?" Ethan asked, his tone brisk.
Gregory straightened up. "The first challenge is a race while carrying laundry, young master."
Ethan frowned. "You need to switch it."
Gregory tilted his head, confused but obedient. "As you wish, young master. What would you like to change it to?"
Ethan hesitated for a moment, thinking. "Uh... maybe an accounting competition. Something less physical."
Gregory smirked knowingly but kept his thoughts to himself. "As you command."
The next morning, the candidates gathered in the courtyard for the first challenge. Lily arrived, her injured leg causing her to limp slightly. As she looked around, Daisy popped out of nowhere, her ever-present grin plastered on her face.
"Are you ready for today's race?" Daisy asked, her voice sweet but dripping with sarcasm.
Lily's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, today is a race?"
"Obviously," Daisy replied, feigning innocence. "I got some insider information."
Lily glanced down at her injured leg, her expression falling. Daisy noticed and leaned in with a smirk. "Don't worry. You weren't going to make it far anyway."
Before Lily could respond, Gregory stepped up to his post to announce the competition. "Welcome, everyone, to the first challenge!" he called out, his voice carrying over the crowd. "Today's task will be... an accounting test!"
A stunned silence fell over the courtyard. All eyes turned to Daisy, whose smug expression melted into panic.
Gregory's gaze flicked to Lily's injured leg, and his lips curved into a small, knowing smile. He knew exactly why Ethan had made the change.
Rows of desks were quickly set up, each one topped with stacks of papers and calculators. Lily took her seat, her heart racing.
"Three... two... one... go!" Gregory shouted.
Lily locked in on the papers in front of her, determined to give it her all despite the unexpected turn of events. But as the test wore on, she found herself struggling. Numbers swam before her eyes, and no matter how hard she tried, the answers didn't seem to come together.
When the challenge ended, Lily's face was clouded with gloom. She felt defeated. As she left the courtyard, she ran straight into Ethan near the exit.
"How did it go?" Ethan asked, his tone gentle.
Lily shook her head. "I don't want to talk about it."
"It couldn't have been that bad," Ethan said, trying to reassure her.
Lily sighed. "I don't know. I'm not confident at all. I'll probably get cut."
Just then, a sleek black car pulled up, catching Lily by surprise.
"A chauffeur?" she asked, turning to Ethan.
"My master wanted to ensure you got home safely," Ethan said casually, hiding his grin.
Lily waved her hands, flustered. "No, no, I can't accept that!"
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "I suggest you don't refuse. He's already called the car for you."
Seeing no way out, Lily reluctantly accepted the offer. "Fine," she mumbled, stepping into the car. "Thanks... I guess."
Ethan watched as the car drove away, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Later that night, Ethan knocked on Gregory's door and entered without waiting for a reply.
"Well?" he asked, his voice tight with anticipation. "Is she getting cut?"
Gregory looked up from his ledger, his expression neutral. "I'm afraid so, young master. She lost by one person."
Ethan's heart sank. His mind raced with ways to fix this.
But then Gregory laughed, shaking his head. "Relax, young master. I was joking. One person was disqualified for cheating—using insider information. So she made it through."
Ethan's tense shoulders relaxed, and a smile broke across his face.
"She made it," he repeated, more to himself than to Gregory.
Gregory nodded. "Indeed, she did."
For the first time that day, Ethan felt a sense of relief. He left Gregory's room with a lightness in his step.
