Chapter 134: Appraisal
After inwardly panicking a bit, Alesha managed to calm herself down and distract herself by analyzing her surroundings. There was very little she could ascertain about her situation as a whole, but by observing what was around her, perhaps she could start collecting clues.
It wasn't her first time in a fantasy world, but it was her first time in such a luxurious building. The Arkshire Academy for Dark Wizards back on Avalon, back when she was summoned as a "demon," had been grand, but in a different way. It had felt dark, intimidating, and powerful, yet somehow also comfortable and welcoming. The Summoning Room (as she decided to call it) felt ostentatious, as if it were designed to impress. The walls and floor were made of white marble with gold inlays, and the gigantic, stained-glass windows depicted grand scenes. There were images of Heroes slaying demons or dragons, forests with rich foliage, fields with golden grain, the Goddess bestowing a blessed sword to a Hero, a castle on a hill surrounded by angels, and many more.
The platform upon which the Appraisals were taking place was also made of marble, including the stairs and railing, with beautiful patterns carved into the side; these patterns had been carved out and meticulously replaced with Lapiz Lazuli, then coated with the same clear material that covered the floor on top of the summoning circle. Alesha wasn't technically certain that the golden, circular pattern on the portion of the floor where they appeared was a "summoning circle," but she guessed that it was.
Before she could move onto analyzing the people native to this world, Alesha realized that she was next in line for Appraisal. The person right before her placed his hand on the crystal ball held by a servant, at which point a hovering golden screen appeared above the ball. "Arturo, a normal warrior," the servant said in a bored voice, and a scribe sitting nearby recorded the information. "You'll be able to summon your Status in order to check the details now. Next!"
Alesha walked up to the man and, feeling nervous, placed her hand on the crystal. It was warm from having been touched by so many hands already. Looking bored, the man holding the pillow on which the crystal ball sat glanced at the golden window, then gasped. "Alesha, another Symbiotic Mage!! She's the second one!!"
There was no full-blown uproar this time, but a fair amount of eyes still followed her as she walked down the stairs and was led to the same group as the Symbiotic Mage from earlier, the one overseen by the woman clad entirely in white. The students there were conversing quietly amongst themselves. Apparently, it was a group reserved for those with special Classes, because each and every one of the students who had a Class that had caused the natives to get excited were present. Alesha gave them a wave.
The group introduced themselves. Sullivan was the nerdy-looking Symbiotic Mage who had been the first "special" Class, blond-haired Harriet was the Elementalist, too-handsome Jake was the Dragon Knight, innocent-looking Cadence was the Saintess, long-haired Arlo was the Great Sage, and Rino, who looked about 12 years old, was the Master Alchemist.
As the conversation continued, Alesha's mind wandered and she remembered that the servant had said something about being able to summon their Status after using the crystal ball. She tried and, lo and behold, her Status screen appeared -- only, it was semi-transparent golden instead of semi-transparent purple. This reminded her of how the Screen in her dream had been similar to dirty, smudged glass with words written in blood, and the one on Werewolf Island had been blue. That was an interesting pattern; a series of different Status Screens. Did that mean this Hero Summoning was another "Story" in Zorhellian's games? And was the dream one, too? She had significant doubts about the dream having been one, but her gut wouldn't let her completely write off the possibility, either.
She turned her attention to the contents of the screen and winced. Crap… it was just as she had feared. She wasn't human this time, either.

Of all the things she could have been made to become, why did it have to be a half-vampire? She hated vampires with a passion -- half-vampires in particular, since Flynn, who had done the unspeakable to her, had been one. The very memory of that horrible night made her heart start to race with anxiety. Nausea began to rise in her stomach and her breaths came shallowly. She closed her eyes, blocking out all external stimuli, and forced herself to breathe deeply and slowly. Just because she was a half-vampire didn't mean she was anything like Flynn, or that she was in danger of being assaulted again. She was different from him and she was safe. Everything would be fine. Deep breaths… deep breaths.
A short time later, she had recovered enough to examine her Stat window again. Almost none of her stats matched what she remembered. Her level had been reduced to 1 somehow; though she still had 5 racial traits, those had probably been switched out; and why had the base values of her Strength, Agility, and other stats increased? Further, what was with the secondary, reduced stat values? Why did she have a higher and a lower value for everything except Intelligence? Lastly, where had her Chaos-related traits gone? Chaos Energy was missing, as was everything else related to it. Was it because this Status Screen was limited to processing abilities native to this world? Was that a thing?
She browsed the rest of the Status in search of answers. Unexpectedly, the "Racial Traits" section provided some answers, even though it gave her a sense of dread.

Sun weakness (25%)
Blood dependency
Garlic sensitivity
Silver weakness
Wooden-stake-to-the-heart weakness

It appeared that she had gotten all of a vampire's weaknesses… and none of their powers. Just how stupid could this get?! If she was going to be stuck as a half-vampire, shouldn't her sun sensitivity be less severe than this? She was only half-vampire, not full-blooded! Also, shouldn't she at least get SOME of a vampire's awesome abilities?? Self-regeneration, or maybe blood magic, or, perhaps, being able to turn into bats? Instead, she was stuck with a whole list of permanent debuffs.
Alesha grimaced and looked at the next section, hoping for some better news.

"Well, shit," Alesha muttered under her breath. Not only was she saddled with a vampire's weaknesses, but one of her titles was literally a curse?!? And quite a severe one, at that! How was she supposed to survive in this world, let alone on the front lines of a war against demons, without the ability to grow stronger by leveling up? The curse looked thorough, too; she couldn't even compensate for her permanently low level by equipping magical items or drinking potions to boost her stats.
This was it. She was completely, totally, and absolutely screwed.
