Chapter 153: Bana Laoch, the Sword
A/N: I do my best to describe the sword but I'll be attaching a link to my drawing of it in the end author's note! Please check it out, I'm really proud of it :3
The King pushed open the door. Inside, a recently-cleaned prison cell featured a single table, by which stood a black-clad member of Project Bana Laoch. On the table rested a magnificent, one-handed sword and sheath. The hilt and crossguard of the sword had a bronze appearance with maroon accents; the flat of the blade was golden and the sharp edge was silver. The symmetrical weapon's design was characterized by elegant, dangerous lines. Its sheath was brown leather with bronze and red accents. As he had instructed, it was enchanted to withstand the cursed sword's enhanced sharpness.
Hefting the weapon and discovering that it had a satisfying, manageable weight to it, he inspected it further. The grip of the weapon was cool to the touch, formed by a grid of rectangular ridges that appeared to be the same material as the rest of the hilt. The crossguard on one side was formed by five swooping, sharp overlapping protrusions, mirrored across the length of the blade. Each protrusion was ridged and had a maroon-colored dip in the center. A rhombus-shaped piece framed by these protrusions, in the middle of the crossguard, featured a smaller, golden-colored rhombus in its center with an embedded octagonal ruby; the pommel of the sword was also rhombus-shaped, with a golden section and ruby to match.
The blade was just over a meter long, with an enlarged portion about two-fifths down its length that had a swoop cut out of it. Its whole length (on both sides) was sharp. An inscription on the blade read, "do ghlóir na Ríochta, ar mhaithe le sábháilteacht ár muintire, le haghaidh titim an Rí Demon."
The King asked the black-clad man what it meant. The man replied, "In the language of the dragons, it reads, 'for the glory of the Kingdom, for the safety of our people, for the fall of the Demon King,' your Majesty."
Running a hand down the cool flat of the blade, the King felt the engraved words and smiled. "Excellent. What a beautiful weapon. I take it that there were no complications in the final stages?"
"None, Your Majesty," the black-clad man answered confidently. "Bana Laoch has been completed to perfection."
The King's heart fluttered in anticipation. At last, Bana Laoch was ready! Project Bana Laoch, pronounced "Bahn-ah Lay-oakh" in the language of the dragons; or "Hero's Bane." It was finally completed! The natives of this world now had a way to defend themselves when Heroes misbehaved -- with this weapon, anyone who wielded it could become like a native "Hero." Perhaps they wouldn't need to rely on Heroes at all anymore!
King Julius reminded himself that such a future was still a far-off dream. What he needed to do now wasn't fill his mind with idle fantasies, but give the completed Bana Laoch to its chosen wielder and have her test its functionality.
With a flourish, the King sheathed Bana Laoch and turned on his heel, striding confidently on his way out.

That evening, Captain Edelle LuRoss, more commonly known by her codename, "White Swallow," rode her horse down a rarely-trodden path in the forests outside of the Capital. She had been bewildered by the King's unexpected summons, then even more so by his unexpected gift. He had entrusted her with something unprecedented.
Captain Swallow had heard vague rumors about the magic weapon that was being forged in secret by the King's artisans. Apparently, a new method of magical forging had been discovered and, since it required materials of the utmost rarity, they could only craft a single blade. It made sense that they could only make one. Unlike other magical blades, the King had explained that this weapon had unprecedented growth potential -- not only did it grant the wielder skills, which was amazing enough, but it could also absorb the stats and skills of those it slayed. It reminded her of Alesha's Plunder skill.
Idly, she wondered how the retired Hero was doing. Five months ago, the King had announced that in order to protect the 'Useless Hero,' he had secretly sent her away to a far-off place to live in peace until the Heroes would be sent home. Captain Swallow was glad. She had worried that no matter how many skills the girl plundered, she would never be able to overcome her inherent weakness. While it was true that natives of this world had trouble acquiring skills and could not level up like the otherworlders, they at least had reasonable stats, which could grow significantly with the right training. That Hero, however, hadn't even been able to grow her pitifully low stats through training. Thus, the Captain was secretly relieved for her; it was far safer for her to live quietly, away from the battlefield.
As her horse plodded along through the shady woods, Captain Swallow returned her thoughts to the King's words when he'd given her Bana Laoch. He had instructed her to carefully observe everything about the weapon, train hard to be able to use its capabilities to the fullest, and strengthen the weapon by hunting as many different kinds of monsters as she could. He had then given her temporary leave from her duty training the Special-Class Heroes in order for her to fulfill those commands.
In a show of faith, the King had entrusted this magical weapon to her. To prove her utmost loyalty, she was determined to spend the next month faithfully executing his orders, beginning immediately.
