Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Hair (Please favorite and recommend)
Li Changhe, wearing his self-made crossover gloves, recalled the intel Pan Ke had bought.
The second teaching building in the old campus was the scene of one of the paranormal events.
In the 303 room on the third floor of the second teaching building, a teacher and three female students had once hanged themselves.
At that time, the police failed to find the murderer, so they concluded it was a suicide.
This incident became the main reason for the abandonment of the old campus. It was just too creepy.
Li Changhe pondered the clues in the intel while also taking a flashlight from his [Player Backpack]. In order to avoid triggering tasks suddenly, Li Changhe had already prepared many things in the [Player Backpack].
The Wolf Eye flashlight was naturally essential. The light swept across the dark corridor, showing Li Changhe the way to go upstairs.
The choice of this [Task Location] was intentional. After all, Li Changhe's level was only lv1. In terms of basic attributes, only his physique was randomly increased by one point, and it wasn't clear what the difference was between him and ordinary people.
If there was any advantage, it would be the [Blood-stained lead ball] and the self-made crossover gloves. The former had already been commented on by the [Evolution Game], stating that it would deal additional damage to mysterious and fantasy species.
The latter were the crossover weapons Li Changhe made himself, so they should be effective. After all, they had been influenced by Buddhism and Daoism.
Compared to the unknown [Art Gallery] and the [Basement] that made workers disappear, this place could obviously be effectively dealt with using these two pieces of equipment.
Li Changhe didn't think much about the former, as the lack of clues meant that there were unknowns, and accidentally encountering a Behemoth would be disastrous. As for the latter, since it was able to make strong workers disappear, Li Changhe wouldn't dare to try it. He was sure that he didn't have more combat power than the three workers. If something could kill three workers, it wouldn't be difficult to kill him.
After much consideration, this place seemed to be the safest choice. Even if there were ghosts and spirits, he could resist them with his equipment.
By the time he thought of this, Li Changhe had already reached the third floor. But to his surprise, he saw another player's... buttocks.
Earth Knight!
It was merely because the Earth Knight had entered the campus a few minutes before Li Changhe that he was now lying stealthily on the ground, slowly retreating.
Sensing the light behind him, Earth Knight looked back and whispered, "Back off! Show your nameplate!" At the same time, his own [Player Nameplate] also flashed above his head.
Li Changhe naturally complied. At least during the [Task], [Players] must help each other to avoid reducing their limited combat power.
As for displaying the nameplate, it was for each other to identify their identities in order not to have teammates replaced by those strange entities. Only [players] could see [Player Nameplates], which were the only things that could prove their identities.
After Earth Knight said this, he said nothing more and continued to retreat slowly as if there was something dangerous in front of him.
Li Changhe held his breath and watched vigilantly in the direction Earth Knight was looking. If there was any movement, he could at least run quickly. If even an lv4 player had to be vigilant about something, Li Changhe wouldn't test his crossover gloves.
Finally, Earth Knight retreated to Li Changhe's side and sat up gasping for breath.
He also removed his face-covering helmet. Li Changhe's pupils shrank as he saw that the inside of the helmet was full of... women's hair. The black strands were wrapped around Earth Knight's neck as if they were alive.
It seemed very dangerous – so dangerous that Earth Knight didn't care about hiding his appearance. His handsome face was flushed at the moment, and it took a few labored breaths to regain his composure.
"If my physique wasn't at eight points, I would have been suffocated to death!" The Earth Knight's full-body armor began to fade, revealing the bodysuit underneath, which was probably put in the [Player Backpack].
The hair on his body gradually lost its vitality and hung down, making him look like a proto-human with a regressed appearance.
Li Changhe didn't just watch. He stepped forward and helped remove those eerie strands of hair.
"What happened?" Li Changhe asked, trying to keep his voice hoarse.
"Don't bother lowering your voice. There's no need. I'm not from Yanyun. I'm not interested in other [Players]' identities either." Earth Knight felt helpless that Li Changhe was still carefully hiding his voice. He said, "I was teleported to the rooftop of this building. Knowing that the 303 room on the third floor was the task point, I came down. I even took out the armor that Vatican priests had prayed for, thinking it would be of some use for this task. I didn't expect to be targeted just a few steps in. Self-made equipment is really useless! I still have to wait until lv5 when the [Forge] is unlocked and synthesize it."
Hearing this, Li Changhe cursed silently, throwing the crossover gloves in his hand into the [Player Backpack] and noting that at lv5, the [Title] and [Forge] would be unlocked.
He lowered his voice again and said, "Is the danger of this task point just the hair you experienced earlier? Why were you crawling backward earlier?"
"The hair should be just one aspect. As I walked, I felt something was wrong with the armor. I don't know how it appeared. It would approach us with room 303 as the center. I had to move backwards with my back to the room, or it would had strangled me in no time."
Earth Knight touched his swollen neck and shook his head, "In that situation, not to mention completing the task, it was difficult for me to even approach. I could only retreat and wait for teammates or think of other ways."
Though Earth Knight spoke lightly, the situation was extremely dangerous.
If one had a weaker psychological quality and chose to turn and run when facing danger, they might be strangled by the hair.
There were no mediocre people among the higher-ranked [Players], especially those who had completed multiple tasks. Neither their mentality nor their strength could be underestimated.
As for those with poor mindset, they might not make it past their first [Task].
"Did the hair appear out of thin air or burrow into your neck?" Li Changhe asked.
"I don't have Magic Eye or Eye Enhancement Skills, so I didn't notice. But I theorize that it burrowed in. At our current levels below lv10, we shouldn't meet those high-level ghosts that spring from nothingness." Earth Knight analyzed.
"Let's give it a try then." Li Changhe muttered as he took a short knife from his [Player Backpack]. Putting the blunt side tightly against the back of his neck, he approached room 303.
Earth Knight also took out two steel knives, keeping a vigilant eye on Li Changhe's back.
The cooperation between the two was established quickly. Li Changhe acted as the vanguard, with the higher-leveled Earth Knight providing support or auxiliary help.
After a few steps, Li Changhe's eyes tightened. He activated his skill, [Eagle Eye lv1].
The originally dark corridor grew instantly clearer. It wasn't that the light suddenly became brighter, but that the retina could capture more reflections of the light.
Li Changhe saw that there were faint black objects flowing out of the walls around room 303. At the same time, there was a faint sense of silken threads wrapping around his neck.
The knife pressed against the back of his neck also felt like it was cutting through something. It was no wonder that Earth Knight hadn't detected them. In the dark corridor, with black hair entwined from both sides, it would be difficult to discover without [Eagle Eye].
"I get it. As we approach 303, hair will emerge from the walls, wrapping around our necks." Li Changhe quickly retreated, shouting, "Attack the walls!"
Earth Knight, who had been ready, used his skill.
