Chapter 42: Part 2: Painful eyes of a mother

*** 1 year ago Earth Time, Samaritan Hospital, Washington, U.S.A ***
The old man was walking towards the exit door in the narrow corridor of the hospital, having lost his motivation. Jeremy had just unraveled the mystery behind his sister's experience and developed a plan to stop this terrifying chain of events. However, in order to realize this plan, he needed supporters who would believe his ridiculous story that every normal person would make fun of and take action with him.
For this purpose, he chose to reach out to the relatives of other victims who shared the same fate as his wheelchair-bound sister. And yet he could only find one person who believed in him and agreed to help him.
But the others did not… In this third hospital he came, he encountered the same result as he experienced in the first two hospitals. The relatives of the young girl who fell into a coma because of the Erghon game did not believe him and banished him out, thinking he was making fun of them.
"I… I beli…eve… in… you…"
He stopped at this sentence, which was spoken in a staccato and feeble manner as if it were the last words of a woman about to die. Surprised, he turned around and looked at the owner of the voice.
"Do…do…not…mi.nd…them…I…be..l.i..eve…in…you…" The woman in the wheelchair, who was obviously having difficulty with this long sentence uttered by her sick body, moved her hand towards the breathing mask in her mouth, lifted it slightly, released it again and continued speaking. "Tak.e…me..in...yo..ur…t.eam…I..want…t…to..h.elp…"
"Who are you, kind lady?"
"T…they…to.ok..my…child…He..f.ell..in..to..a…co.ma…sh.owing…th.e..sa.me…symp..t.oms..as…th.e…girl…in..s.ide…"
"When, Madam?"
"L..la.st…yea..r…"
"Oh…" Even though Jeremy tried to hide his sadness, he could not succeed. "I'm sorry ma'am, but unfortunately your child is in the same situation as my sister. My findings show that people who were detained for different periods of time were sent to completely different places. So we won't be able to reach those who have been detained long before we start the war against those who did this. Basically, there's nothing we can do for either of them now. We may only have a chance to save the victims that those people will harm from now on…"
There was deep silence for a short while. Jeremy felt that the woman in front of him was still searching for hope in the depths of her helpless eyes that had widened due to these words.
"Th..at...is…o.k…I...st..ill…w.ant..to…h.e.lp…pl.eas.e…"
Jeremy felt the same pain deep in the soul of this woman he could only see her eyes, but in those last five seconds when he looked at her silently, he made his decision…"Sorry, Madam, but if you want your child to find peace, all you have to do is focus on your own health and try to get better as soon as possible." And as soon as he finished his sentence, he turned around again and started walking towards the door.
"S..t.op…pl..e.a..se…!"
Out of respect for the woman, he stopped one last time, but this time he did not turn back and just listened.
"I...lost...all...my...be.lo.ved...ones...ex.cept...for…my…s.on…He…is..st.i.ll..13…y.ears…o.old…Th.ey…too.k…him…fr.om…me…be..c.au..se…of…my…ill..n.e.s..s…and…to..ld…me…th..at…he..fe.ll…in..to…a…co.ma…mon.t..hs…la..ter…Th.ey…e.ven…d.id…not…bri.ng…him…he.re…La.te..ly…thi.s…g.irl…ap..pe.a..red…he.re…w.ho..was…in…t.he…same…con.di..ti.on…as…him…And…now…y.you…I…l.is..ten.ed…ev.ery…t.hing…I.be.li..eve…you…I…s.wear…"
Jeremy, who listened calmly to this long explanation, still did not answer and walked slowly out of the automatic door of the hospital. He had now left the hospital…
The sound of the wheelchair overturning echoed in the hospital corridors.
"Y…you…pe.ople…! H..o.w…can…y.ou…all…be…so…cru.el…" The woman, who tried to push her body with her hands and jump towards the man with one last move under the influence of her emotions, failed. Her wheelchair tipped over and she fell face down. "How…can…you…l.lo.ok…in.to…a…mo.ther.s…pai.n..ful.l…e.yes…and" Having lost all her will to live, the woman continued to lie face down, cry and scratch the marbles on the floor uncontrollably with her nails. "st.i.ll…tor.tur..e…me…I…ha..te…you…a.all…"
She thought the reason why Jeremy refused to help her was because of her sick body.
But the reality was completely different.
There were 2 reasons why Jeremy didn't include her in her team. The first was that when he looked at her, he remembered his sister with a similar fragile body. He did the same thing he would have done if it had been his own sister in front of him at that moment. In other words, he did not include the woman in his team not because he felt sorry for her, but to protect her.
Secondly, the desire and pain in the woman's eyes frightened Jeremy. In fact, contrary to what the woman cried out against, Jeremy saw all the painful feelings of a mother in that woman's eyes that day. And he was afraid that these feelings he saw in her eyes might harm them in order to reach his own child, as much as she would help them in their cause when they would go to the World of Erghon. Because Treader could actually guess that there was no limit to what a grieving mother could do for her child completely within the boundaries of pure feelings. Including betrayal...
Of course the woman… No, Mona didn't know any of his these thoughts…

*** End of the FLASHBACK ***
"Y…yo..u!"
"Yes, it is me…" Instead of pain in Mona's green eyes, there was now only hatred that pierced Treader's soul. "You, like the others, rejected me and left me helpless, and not only me but even God will not forgive what you did. However, I didn't give up and as you can see, I managed to get here! But I was left helpless again, trapped in a World far away from my child, and trapped forever in the snare of beings you can't even imagine. I have worked too hard not only on Earth but even here to reach you and move forward in the light of the knowledge you have acquired. If only you could bear to listen to me just once...! All of this is your fault, and you will perish here, suffering the same pain, understanding what I felt and experienced, under my torture!"
Slowly approaching the end, Treader's surprise was replaced by a gentle smile. "O.f…co.urse…I…c.can..n.ot...un.der..st.and...ful.ly...but...I...c.an...gu.ess...it...M.mona…" Unlike their last encounter, this time it was Treader who had difficulty speaking because he was about to die. "A..and..I…res..pect…it…My…wife…al.so…lov..ed…my…sis.ter…lik.e…her…own…ch.child…So…I…w.ill…let…t.wo…gri..ev.ing…m..moth..ers…han..dle…th.things…" Finishing his sentence, Treader paused his speech, took a deep breath and "YO.UR…T..TURN…MY…LOV.E…PH..PLAN…B!"
"JEREMYYYYYYYYY DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON'TTTTTTTTTTTT!" Serenity, still immobilized, screamed to stop him but it was no use.
