Chapter 12: Scarlet encounter
Yuto could use his power while he slept. He created an inverse barrier around his house. If anyone got close enough, they would be pushed away. While Yuto slept, he felt a disturbance in the barrier.
One particular spot in the house had been activated multiple times throughout the night. It was the front door. More specifically, the doorbell. Someone was obviously trying to reach him. If not, they would have tried the back door at least once. This person insisted on the front door, as if it were the only option.
Yuto woke up, disturbed by the incessant poking at the barrier. He looked at his cell phone; it was 7 in the morning. As soon as he deactivated the barrier, the doorbell began to ring repeatedly. Yuto, irritated and sleepy, went to the front door. He opened it and saw a girl, probably around 16 years old.
The girl had short red hair, blue eyes and was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt. She was startled when the door finally opened, after so many attempts. They stared at each other for a few seconds, until Yuto asked:
— What do you want?
— Ishikawa-san, I finally got to meet you!
— How do you know my name?
— My master told me!
— Who? What master?
— Wisedroid-sama!
— What? I'm not sure I understand...
— He asked me to spy on you!
— Spy on me? So you were the one who followed me yesterday afternoon?
— Yes!
— Seriously? I mean, are you sure you should be telling me this?
— Yes! My master asked me to be your friend, to see if you can be trusted!
Normally, Yuto would be scared or angry. But the girl had such an innocent and cheerful smile that belied what she was saying about espionage. She pronounced each word with a sweet voice, like a baby. She didn't stop smiling for a moment during the conversation.
Yuto found her cute. He had never seen a creature so pure and innocent besides Kiseki. He was enchanted. He invited her to his house:
— Did I pass your master's degree test?
— Of course! But he asked me to live with you, to watch over you every day!
— L-Live with me?! Isn't that going too far?
— My bags are all outside! I'm ready to move!
She's not kidding around…
— Isn't there another way to observe me?
— No! I need to see you up close!
Yuto finally gave in. He had never accepted a stranger to live in his house, but there were plenty of rooms. Although only Kanata and his brother had lived in the house years ago, there were four rooms. Probably for his parents when they visited.
And that girl had been waiting all night to talk to him. She had already made all the arrangements to live with him. Yuto couldn't turn her away, it would be too mean. He didn't want to see that smile turn into sadness.
— Alright, I'll let you live here. But know that I'm not the only one who needs to earn your trust. You need to earn mine too.
— Understood!
— What's your name?
— Genesis! I'm an android created by Wisedroid-sama!
— An android?! That's not possible. I've never seen one before.
— It's possible! I can search anything on the internet right now to prove it!
— Then search for who the best baker in town is.
— Vanderlei!
— That was faster than I expected. Alright, I believe you're an android. And who is this Wisedroid master of yours?
— He's an android too! He's rank #7 of level 7!
Yuto shivered when he heard that expression. If he were to attack the association again, he would have to defeat all the level 7s, even her dear master. He continued to ask:
— Do you have any power?
— Yes, yes! Creation is my power! It materializes objects that I can understand!
— That sounds pretty strong... Your name kinda fits.
— Wisedroid-sama took good care of me, he chose that name because he thought it suited me!
— He seems like a nice guy.
— Sure! He'd love to meet you!
They continued to talk until Haji woke up. In her pajamas and sleepy, she walked to the dining room, where they were talking.
— What's all that noise?
Haji was startled to see a girl she had never seen in her house before.
— Who is that?! Yuto, you're going to have to explain it to me!
Genesis saw Haji, who was embarrassed, and commented:
— Jealousy in the air detected!
It was now nighttime, time for Genesis's first test of trust. Her mission was to go shopping at night and return unharmed, with all the correct items. Genesis left and went to a nearby convenience store. She purchased the items and as she left the store, she saw two men and a woman cornering a boy.
One of the men had short black hair, a scruffy beard, and eyes the same color as his hair. He looked to be in his 30s, but he was pretty worn out. He wore a black t-shirt and black jeans.
The other was tall, fat, muscular and bald. He had black eyebrows and eyes. He looked to be about 40 years old. He wore a brown sleeveless jacket and black pants.
The woman had wavy, vibrant pink hair and eyes the same color as her hair. She was young, looked like a teenager. She wore a vibrant pink hoodie and pink pants.
The child was a boy of about 10 years old. His hair was golden and his eyes were light blue.
The first man began:
— Hey, kid, watch where you're going.
— You're the ones who bumped into me!
— What? Can you say that louder?
— I was just minding my own business until you showed up!
Genesis couldn't just stand by and intervened:
— Hey, what are you guys doing? He's just a kid, let him go!
The same man looked at her with contempt:
— Do you know us? We're the most iconic level 3 trio there is. Do you think you have a chance against us?
— It doesn't matter whether I can defeat you or not! This is simply wrong, so please stop!
— This is your last chance to turn around and leave.
Genesis glared at him, challenging him.
— Okay, your choice.
The man kneed Genesis in the stomach, who said, in pain:
— Boy, run away! I'll protect you!
— Thank you, lady, but I can take care of them myself.
— No, go away, please!
— Are you sure? It's your choice, I think. Thank you, lady.
The boy ran away. The three troublemakers didn't like it, but they focused their attention on Genesis. They wanted to torture her, so they didn't lose much. She warned:
— I don't want to kill you! So please, let's not fight!
— You came to fight with us and you still want to solve everything peacefully? Pathetic.
The man materialized a shotgun in his hand, which he then fired at Genesis. She dodged it by flying with her booster boots. The shots veered off course and followed Genesis, hitting her. She lost her balance and fell to the street, badly injured. She created grenades in her hands and threw them at the group, who narrowly dodged them.
Shit... I have to run, but my thrusters...
The furious brute rushed towards her, ready to attack her with all his strength. Genesis quickly got up and created an iron shield in response. It couldn't withstand the impact and was pierced with his body. His head hit Genesis squarely in the forehead.
She flew another 15 meters before hitting the ground, landing on the grass near a river within the city. Soon after, the pink-haired woman materialized a pink, thorny whip, long enough to hit her from where she was standing, 30 meters away. It struck with such force that it split Genesis in half horizontally. Since she was an android, her upper body still functioned.
Genesis pulled back her left sleeve and revealed some kind of custom watch. Then she pressed it.
Exwind was called for a mission. There were no details in the description, so it was probably a scam. He decided to go because there was a chance someone was in danger. He arrived at the location, which appeared to be an abandoned mall. There were a lot of people there, spread out in factions. They wore hoodies, caps, and carried baseball bats. They were outlaws.
He pretended not to notice a group of people staring at him and whispering to each other. But one of them spoke so loudly that Exwind didn't even need to be close to hear. He was wearing a hoodie and looked a little old. One of his eyes was bulging.
— Hey, newbie! Go see if that hero has anything for us!
— B-But he's Exwind! The second level 6!
— Who asked? You'll be fine, come on! You have a debt you haven't paid, don't you? This is your chance!
