Shadow Blood and Fire

Chapter 9: Discharged

Pant, pant!! Mister Eli Dengare Baxter, are you getting ready to be discharged today?"

"Pardon? Ah, yes, I am."

She was the nurse in charge of his care, Adesa Nurllor

Nurllor formed a rueful expression when she heard his affirmation.

Eli didn't know why, so he could only stand there looking rather confused. He wondered if he had made a mistake somewhere, but he couldn't think of anything.

Nurllor hesitated slightly, before pulling out a small memo pad

"Will be okay if you give me your contact numbers?"

"My contact numbers?"

Eli wasn't expecting that kind of question, and besides it has never happened before when he was still a fatty but now things were different he looked muscular and had grown taller and his handsome looks were now evident.

"Yes…. Only if you're okay with it."

Could there be some test results that needed to be sent at a later date or something? Eli didn't think too much about it and took the memo pad. However, all he got from her was just that, a memo pad and nothing else.

When Eli stared at her with his deep blue eyes, her face reddened.

"W-what's the matter?"

"Uhm, well…. About a pen…."

"Ah? Ah, please wait."

She must've forgotten in her rush to get here; Nurllor became flustered and hurriedly turned around.

'Uh? Hang on a minute. A pen, is it….?'

He didn't have to think for long. Before anyone noticed it, he was already holding a pen. The moment he thought about the pen nestled quietly within his Inventory, it automatically appeared in his hand.

Eli spent sometime trying to understand the inventory and certain item that can be placed within the Inventory, he could retrieve it freely with his thoughts alone.

What a convenient feature of the Inventory that was.

Confirming the pen in his hand, Eli called out to Nurllor.

"Wait. I looked and luckily enough, I had a pen on me."

"Oh, really? Whew, what a relief."

Nurllor placed a hand on her chest and sighed out in relief.

Eli smiled at that and he jotted down his phone number.

"Here it is."

Nurllor received the memo pad back from Eli with an elated expression etched on her face.

She then bowed her head as well.

"Please take care of me from now on."

"Oh, uh, sure thing. Me too."

Nurllor spun around and hurriedly disappeared to somewhere. Eli looked at her departing back and tilted his head this way and that.

'By the way…. how does she expect me to take care of her?'

She was such a cute nurse, to begin with, yet she was even courteous as well. Eli thought as such and left the hospital with a refreshed, airy mind.

***

Suddenly, a loud ringtone wrenched Eli's mind out of his reverie.

He glanced at the caller ID which read: Mom!

"Eli? Are you almost at Hutton District? Auntie Visoski should be waiting for you outside the bus station right now. I told her to find a place for you in Hutton District and help me take care of you while you stay there. Do not blame me for being such a mom and sending you away. I just want you to stay away from school for a few more days in a new place and heal. You listen to Auntie Visoski while you are in Hutton, you hear me? She was one of my business partners, Really nice people!"

Ah! I almost forgot to tell you. The Visoski family has a daughter, and her name is Milliette Visoki, she is a straight-A student and Level 4 Mutant. Your Auntie is very keen on setting you two up, but I had to warn you that getting into the good books of the government and gaining an ability is your priority right now!"

"Okay mom"

Eli laughed in his mind. First she calls ability users mutant and What kind of Metropolian mother would allow her daughter to date in high school?... and I use to be a fatty weight more than a ton.

As Eli was engrossed in his reflection, the public digital harbinger arrived at the destination.

Looking at the flood of people passing by him at the terminal, reality finally hit him, he could hear all their heartbeats and voices filtered in a way that don't make it burdensome and he could tune it or turn it off.

"Another life, another story." Eli cracked a smile, and then he followed the crowd to the exit.

Meanwhile, outside of the Hutton District bus terminal, something had caught the crowd's attention: an imported red mini Last generation Aircraft Audi-A6.

This Aircraft's worth was seven hundred thousand credit. It was no doubt a rare sight of luxury in the street of Hutton. However, the Aircraft was not what the public was gawking at; it was the two women standing right in front of it.

The older one looked like she was in her thirties; she had a beautiful face and was wearing a black dress tailored to her curves, a formal white shirt, and a pair of high heels. No doubt she was an elite-class woman with a white-collar job.

The younger one was no older than 16; she was tall and was as beautiful as the older woman if not more so.

They were Auntie Visoski and her daughter, Milliette Visoki. Milliette Visoki surveyed the exit of the terminal with a frown.

"Mom, when will he be here, do you want to call him?" Milliette Visoki asked impatiently.

"We have only been waiting for ten minutes." Auntie Visoski refuted.

Eli's mother had been her best friend before teenage age, and she could not let her down. She trusted her, and naturally, she had to do her best to look after the child.

"Eli is a very good child. Be nice to him! You two are going to be good friends, so I hope you will get along. This is the first time he's leaving his district, so he is not familiar with life here. You need to take care of him." Auntie Visoki said.

"I know… I know, Mom! This is the thirteenth time you have told me the exact same thing all because of some Fatty!"

Because of the stupid country boy, she thought she had to waste her entire afternoon.

She could have been spending time with her friends at the Galaxy Devoteé with a cup of pumpkin spice latte in her hand right now; but no, she had to be here and be miserable.

What's worse; she had noticed the way her mother had mentioned his name to her: she was trying to set her up with that fatty. "Well, over my dead body!" Milliette Visoki thought to herself.

Suddenly, she heard a voice calling out to her mother.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting, Auntie Viski." The boy politely greeted her mother with a gentle smile.

"Is this Eli ?" Milliette Visoki quietly regarded the boy from head to toe while standing behind her mother.

He was standing at height, 6'1″ if not less, the same height as she was in her flats.

His look was…. muscular that couldn't be hidden by his blue divan medic clothes compulsory for newly discharged patients with broad shoulders, fiery red hair, arched eyebrows, pale skin and blue eyes at best quite the handsome lad, and his taste in fashion was definitely questionable.

She shook her head slightly. "He is handsome, overrated, not nearly as cool as Machine Billy Danielle."

Machine Billy Danielle won the last year Golden Kin Championship and he is the son of Senator Mandevork Danielle the famous Saint.

Machine Billy Danielle got both the good looks and a good family. He was one of the pursuers of Milliette Visoki, one that Milliette Visoki actually liked.

"Still, how?.. When did this fatty become muscular and that handsome, and his hair was always a reddish brown, is that even a natural hair or did he dye cause he was suppose to meet me... That should be it so much for not changing your blue divan medic clothes just to dye your hair to gain my attention.

Milliette Visoki arched her eyebrows. " I think you got the name wrong. It's Visoki not Viski.
