Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The Method of Stripping the Soul Reaper's power?

"Sigh..."

Yet, in response to Makoto's warning, Aizen wore an expression of deep bitterness and sorrow, replying in a troubled tone.

"I understand these things well enough. But one of my subordinates witnessed her closest friend being devoured by a Hollow in the heat of battle. Since then, she's developed a profound disgust for her own Reaper powers, even to the point of contemplating leaving the squad."

As he said this, Aizen's gaze softened with a mix of pity and bitterness, his demeanor like that of an elder who regarded his subordinates as family. With another long sigh, he continued.

"I've tried to console her multiple times, yet it's been in vain. Things have deteriorated to the point where even the mere sight of a Shinigami causes her to cry out in anguish."

Meeting Aizen's gaze, Makoto, bracing himself, suggested, "Then perhaps she should file a resignation request with the Central 46 and the First Division. If she's unable to fulfill her duties and responsibilities as a Shinigami, I'm sure the Central 46 and the leaders of the First Division would accept her resignation."

[Central 46 Chambers: An official council in the Soul Society, ostensibly composed of forty wise elders and six judges, tasked with handling all judicial matters. In truth, it operates as a council largely dominated by the noble and elder classes, possessing final authority over all matters in the Soul Society.]

"I understand that too," Aizen replied, "but she's still so young. She's sacrificed so much for the safety of the Soul Society and Seireitei. However, if the Central 46 approves her resignation, she'll be forced to undergo the Severing Ceremony, where her Shinigami powers will be forcibly stripped by breaking her soul chain."

At this, Aizen cast a subtle glance at Makoto, hoping to gauge his reaction to the upper council's merciless and unjust decision.

If he were like any typical young hot-blooded genius, he might be stirred enough to storm off to the Central 46 to protest—or even cause trouble.

However, Makoto merely blinked his seemingly innocent eyes, clapped his hands together, and remarked, "Wouldn't that be a double blessing? This way, she can resign peacefully without being constantly reminded of her Zanpakuto and those painful memories."

...?

Aizen Sosuke.

In that moment, even Aizen was caught off guard by Makoto's unconventional response.

Was this...pure naïvety? Or was there something darker hidden beneath that seemingly innocent response?

Shaking his head slightly, Aizen continued, "Makoto, things aren't so simple. You should know that once the soul chain is broken, the ensuing loss of spiritual energy would not only strip her shinigami powers, but also drastically shorten her lifespan."

"That's why, during today's captain's meeting, when I heard Captain Unohana mention your unique approach to healing and medical techniques, I thought to myself it would be worthwhile to meet with you. I hope you might be able to develop a technique that could completely separate a shinigami's powers from their spirit body."

"That way, those who have given everything for the Soul Society could, when they choose to leave..."

"The pain of having the lock shattered and avoiding its effects."

Aizen spoke in a tone that was both melancholic and pensive, his gaze directed at Makoto with a sincerity and gentleness that seemed to radiate a subtle, captivating glow.

It must be said, Aizen exuded an undeniable charm.

Despite being only a vice-captain, a position where he could easily disregard the concerns of a mere squad member, Aizen Sosuke took it upon himself to consider her situation. He was willing to risk punishment from the Central 46 for the sake of doing his utmost, even going so far as to humbly request something from a fourth division member as a vice-captain.

Had Makoto not been so acutely aware that this was not Aizen's true face, he might have completely believed his performance. he might have been entirely captivated by this man's humility, kindness, and gentleness, ultimately willing to serve him loyally.

However, at this moment, Makoto was... laughing inside. he did not believe a word of what Aizen had said.

Makoto even believed that one day, the imbalance between himself and Unohana-sensei—where the male was weak and the female strong—could be overturned, and he would be in charge. But he could never bring himself to believe Aizen's words.

As for the unfortunate Fifth Division Shinigami... it might very well be true, but

Makoto couldn't be sure if Aizen himself had a hand in it.

Thus, in the midst of Aizen's seemingly flawless argument, one that would undoubtedly inspire many Shinigamis to admire his kindness and gentleness if spread around, Makoto mentally sifted through the irrelevant details, cutting away most of the information.

'Aizen plans to strip a Shinigami's powers for some ulterior purpose!'

While pondering Aizen's true motives, Senju Makoto's eyes subtly reddened, a hint of glistening tears visible. he nodded firmly, pressing his hand to his chest.

"Vice-Captain Aizen, rest assured, I will truthfully convey this matter to Unohana-sensei. I will ask her to personally develop the technique, and once there are results, she will contact Fifth Division Captain Hirako Shinji to request recognition from the Central 46 for you."

"..."

Aizen Sosuke.

Finally, after a somewhat dry farewell from Aizen, Makoto watched as he gazed at his retreating back as he walked deeper into the gynecology office. His eyes narrowed slightly, a look of inscrutable meaning flashing in them.

Makoto, maintaining nearly the same pace, reached the office and slowly closed the door. he couldn't help but exhale deeply, releasing the tension in his nerves.

Right until the moment he was about to enter his office, Makoto had genuinely feared that Aizen would pull out his "Mirror Flower, Water Moon" technique and say something that might break his composure.

Perhaps he would bring up Unohana Retsu and Captain Hirako Shinji, or maybe he had managed to deceive him with his pure and innocent image. Perhaps Aizen's arrogance led him to believe his disclosures wouldn't cause any trouble...

All in all, Makoto felt incredibly fortunate to have left that conversation intact, knowing so much about Aizen's plans.

As his thoughts began to settle, Senju Makoto made hisself a cup of tea, watching the leaves unfurl in the boiling water. His emotions gradually calmed, and he subconsciously began to reflect on Aizen's true purpose.

The technique to strip a Shinigami of their powers?

For a Shinigami, spiritual pressure was undoubtedly the most fundamental and essential force. Thus, the Central 46's method of stripping a Shinigami of their powers would involve destroying the seal, causing the spiritual energy to dissipate irreversibly, naturally resulting in a decline in spiritual pressure.
