Chapter 20: Transformation Technique – A Punch from the Sky
The intense battle raged on in the forest, with no sign of stopping. The once-lush land was now filled with craters, newly formed lakes from water-style jutsu, and wreckage everywhere.
Even deep within the battlefield, Sasuke and the others had to keep relocating to avoid being caught in the chaos.
This was a fight far beyond what ordinary shinobi could join.
Boom!
Gamabunta was struck by an air bullet from Shukaku, sending a massive wave of sand into the air.
"Ow! That stupid tanuki hit me with a chakra-infused air bullet!" Gamabunta shouted, leaping out of the crater he had fallen into. His breathing was labored, and exhaustion was beginning to show.
Meanwhile, Shukaku only grew stronger. As a tailed beast, his power seemed to increase the longer the fight continued.
If this went on, the tide of the battle would surely turn against them.
"Boss Toad, what should we do?" Naruto asked anxiously.
"The only way to break his fake sleep technique is to wake up that kid!" Gamabunta said seriously.
"How do we do that?"
"I'll get close to that idiot tanuki and try to hold him down. You focus on waking up the kid!"
"But here's the thing—I can't fully pin down his claws and fangs as I am now."
"That means you'll have to use the Transformation Technique to turn me into something with claws and fangs. You'll make the hand seals to complete the transformation!"
Naruto's mind raced. "Claws and fangs... claws and fangs..." He struggled to think of the right form in the heat of the moment.
But Gamabunta gave him no time to hesitate, leaping forward to dodge several of Shukaku's attacks and charging directly at him.
"Get ready, Naruto!" Gamabunta shouted.
As they closed in on Shukaku, Naruto suddenly had an idea. His eyes lit up.
"Transformation Technique!"
A massive cloud of white smoke exploded, spreading like a wave across the mountain range.
From within the smoke, a shadow began to emerge—huge, fearsome, and familiar.
All of Konoha stared at the screen, dread creeping into their hearts. Memories of twelve years ago surfaced—the day the Fourth Hokage fell and the Nine-Tails attacked.
Children, villagers, and even shinobi froze in fear.
"The Nine-Tails!?"
A massive orange-red fox appeared from the smoke, its nine tails swaying ominously in the wind.
The villagers panicked.
"The Nine-Tails is back! This is just like twelve years ago!"
"It's that fox—it destroyed Konoha! Even if it turned to ash, I'd recognize it!"
"What do we do? Is it going berserk?"
Among the chaos, a few ninja from other villages groaned in exasperation.
"Relax, it's just the Transformation Technique!"
Naruto stared at the giant fox on the screen, his heart heavy.
"So that's the monster inside me..."
This beast was the reason for his loneliness, the source of the villagers' hatred, and the root of all his suffering.
Yet now, he was using its form to protect others.
The transformed Gamabunta lunged at Shukaku, dodging his attacks with newfound speed. For some reason, Shukaku became visibly agitated, his attacks growing more erratic as he faced the fox's form.
Finally, Gamabunta locked Shukaku's claws with his own. His voice rang out. "Now, Naruto! It's your turn!"
Boom!
The Transformation Technique dispelled in an instant. From the smoke, Naruto shot through the air, his orange and yellow form a blur as he closed in on Gaara.
"I have to land this!" Gamabunta shouted, his heart pounding. If Naruto succeeded, the battle would be won. If not, they were doomed.
As Naruto neared Gaara, he clenched his fist tightly. His voice rang out. "Wake up already!"
BAM!
Naruto's fist connected with Gaara's forehead, jolting him awake.
Shukaku's consciousness began to dissipate as Gaara regained control, his expression twisted in frustration and disbelief.
They had done it.
Naruto had broken the fake sleep technique and brought Gaara back to his senses.
In the hospital, Lee let out a triumphant yell. "Yes! He did it! Way to go, Naruto-kun!"
The rest of the Twelve Guardians were equally exhilarated, their hearts pounding with excitement.
Even though they weren't the ones fighting, the intensity of the moment made them feel as if they were right there in the battle.
"Amazing..."
They couldn't find the words to express their awe. The boy they once mocked as a loser had just defeated a tailed beast.
Naruto's earlier words echoed in their minds: "Even if I stay a genin forever, I'll become Hokage someday!"
"Yes! Defeat him! Drag him out of his pain!" Naruto roared as the tension broke.
Jiraiya smiled proudly.
Watching from outside the screen, Gaara stared at the image of Naruto in disbelief.
"That guy... How did he beat me?"
Kankuro, too, was stunned. "No way... That loser? That kid we could have crushed with one hand?"
Ino, unable to comprehend what she saw, muttered, "Naruto... that Naruto?"
He was no longer the dropout who barely passed his graduation exam. In that moment, Naruto was a beacon of hope—a bright sun shining his light on everyone around him.
Gaara, now fully conscious, glared at Naruto. "You...!"
"Sand Coffin!"
Sand wrapped around Naruto, constricting his body as Gaara clenched his hand. Gamabunta tried to intervene with his tongue, but it wasn't enough.
"You'll die here! My existence won't be erased!" Gaara snarled.
Naruto, struggling against the sand's grip, glanced back at Sakura and Sasuke. If he failed now, they would all perish.
"But I'm out of chakra... What do I do...?"
Naruto closed his eyes, his expression fierce. "Please... just a little..."
"Give me enough chakra to protect them!"
With a roar, fiery orange-red chakra burst from Naruto's body, scattering the sand around him.
The chakra flared like flames, illuminating him like an invincible warrior.
"Here I come, you stupid tanuki!" Naruto shouted as he charged at Gaara.
Gaara panicked, shouting, "Die already!" as sand surged to stop Naruto.
But Naruto didn't slow.
BAM!
With a headbutt, Naruto slammed his forehead against Gaara's, both of them bleeding from the impact.
Shukaku's body began to crack, pieces of it breaking away until it dissolved into sand, scattering into the wind.
