Chapter 26: Lee’s Hope for Recovery
Naruto grinned excitedly, clutching the green vial in his hand. Jiraiya, seeing his enthusiasm, chuckled and tousled the boy's spiky blond hair.
"Learning this new jutsu will be tough," Jiraiya said with a sly smile. "Even harder than summoning techniques. Are you ready for that?"
Naruto wiped his nose confidently. "The Fourth Hokage's jutsu? I'll learn it no matter how hard it is. I don't care about hardship—I'm not afraid!"
"That's the spirit!" Jiraiya laughed heartily, genuinely proud of Naruto's determination.
Suddenly, a figure appeared before them. Clad in the signature uniform of the ANBU and wearing a fox mask, the ninja addressed them calmly.
"Jiraiya-sama, Uzumaki Naruto, please follow me."
Without much reaction, Jiraiya nodded, recognizing the ANBU as someone sent by the Third Hokage.
Sarutobi Hiruzen gazed at the portraits of past Hokage on the wall, his eyes lingering on the fourth portrait—the image of Namikaze Minato, the Fourth Hokage.
"I've done so much… will you two hate me for it?" he murmured to himself, his voice heavy with regret.
The memories of that fateful night, Minato and Kushina's pleas, echoed in his mind.
"It's already been twelve years, hasn't it?"
His thoughts were interrupted as the office door swung open with a loud bang.
Walking in unannounced was an older man with a bandaged right eye—Shimura Danzo, the shadow of Konoha and leader of the Root division.
"Still haven't learned to knock, I see," Hiruzen said dryly, not looking up.
"Old habits die hard," Danzo replied dismissively, stepping closer.
The two men fell silent, tension filling the room like a thick fog.
"Hiruzen, you've seen the video. You know why I'm here."
"This is about Naruto, isn't it?"
Danzo nodded. "The Nine-Tails Jinchūriki cannot afford unnecessary emotions. Turn him over to the Root, and I'll mold him into the perfect weapon for Konoha."
Hiruzen's expression darkened. "You know I will never agree to that. Naruto stays under my watch."
"Hiruzen, don't be naive. You know how important the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki is to the village. Your soft approach won't work. Only I—"
"Enough, Danzo!" Hiruzen snapped, cutting him off. "You may be a council member, but I am still the Hokage!"
Danzo scowled. "You'll regret this, Hiruzen." He stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
As the door shut, the office fell silent again. Hiruzen sighed deeply, the weight of his responsibilities showing in his every motion.
Moments later, Jiraiya and Naruto entered the office through the window.
"Old man!" Naruto greeted cheerfully, breaking the tension in the room.
Hiruzen smiled warmly. The sight of Naruto always lifted his spirits. "Good work, Naruto. I saw the video, and I'm proud of you."
Naruto beamed, scratching the back of his head.
"You're looking more stressed than usual, old man," Jiraiya said casually, glancing at Hiruzen. "Something happen?"
"You've been gone for over a decade. Now you come back just to nag me?" Hiruzen retorted, half-joking. "You left me to hold the village together alone while you enjoyed your freedom. Do you think that's fair?"
Jiraiya chuckled sheepishly. "You know me—I had things to take care of."
"Looking for your so-called 'Child of Prophecy,' weren't you?" Hiruzen asked knowingly.
For once, Jiraiya didn't respond.
"Child of Prophecy? What's that?" Naruto asked, tilting his head in confusion.
Jiraiya waved him off. "Nothing you need to worry about. Now go on, kid—don't you have somewhere to be?"
Pouting, Naruto left the office, muttering about grumpy adults.
Naruto made his way to Konoha Hospital, his mind buzzing with excitement. He wanted to test the healing potion he had received from the sky.
"If this really works, then Bushy Brows' leg can be healed!" Naruto thought, picking up his pace.
He arrived at the hospital and ran into Shikamaru. Together, they headed to Lee's room.
"Bushy Brows, we're here to see you!" Naruto announced, bursting into the room.
Lee, who had been preparing for a light workout, turned in surprise. "Naruto-kun! Shikamaru-kun! It's good to see you!"
"How's your leg?" Naruto asked, grinning.
Lee's smile faltered. "It's the same. Healing from those injuries is slow and difficult."
Shikamaru sighed, glancing at Lee's pained expression. "It's a tough injury, especially after opening the gates and fighting Gaara. Recovery will take time."
Lee nodded quietly, his usual bright demeanor dimmed by frustration. Gai-sensei had been tirelessly seeking a cure, but hope was scarce.
"Well, I might have something that can help!" Naruto declared, pulling the small green vial from his pocket.
"What's that?" Shikamaru asked, his curiosity piqued.
"It's a super-awesome potion from the sky's reward thing! It can heal anything! I bet it'll fix Bushy Brows' leg in no time!"
Lee and Shikamaru stared at the bottle in disbelief.
"This... this can really heal me?" Lee asked, hope flickering in his eyes.
"Well... I haven't exactly tested it yet," Naruto admitted sheepishly. "But it came from the sky! That means it's gotta be trustworthy, right?"
Shikamaru crossed his arms, skeptical. "Are you sure about this, Naruto? If it doesn't work, it could make things worse."
Naruto hesitated but looked at Lee with determination. "It's worth a try, right? I trust it—and I trust the sky."
